After 140 matches, 572 wickets, 38 five-wicket hauls and 11 ten-wicket hauls Aizaz Cheema today said goodbye to his First-class cricket career - but one can't help but wonder if he should have played more games for Pakistan.

Aizaz Cheema was a decent fast bowler with wonderful slower one delieveries, he was a bit unlucky that he have not played more matches due to presence of other talented bowler around him at that time period. Thanks for your services for Pakistan Cricket, i still remember that last over you bowled against Bangladesh in Asia Cup Final :inzi2

The problem with our selectors is always is that when the guys are hot, they don't get picked and then a sympathy selection is made a few years later. It happened with Abdul Rauf. In 2003, he was good and Amir Sohail chose the terrible ganja, Junaid Zia. When Rauf was picked 5 years later , he was pretty bad.

He had that delivery that angled in and looked ok at times. But batsmen at the highest level worked him out.

A decent competitor though.

Always remember Bumble calling him Cheema the Seamer.

Yes I think so. Pakistan's bowling history has many examples of people like Cheema coming in when other, more well-known bowlers fail to step up or go missing for various reasons. They perform admirably and then are dropped never to be seen again. He probably was picked 3-4 years later than he should have but he did well, especially on the dead pitches he was given.

There is a really old interview here where Umar Akmal claims Cheema was the fastest bowler in domestic cricket. Can't find the actual thread but it's referenced in here:

PakPassion.Net: Who is the fastest bowler you've ever played against in domestic cricket?

Umar Akmal: His name is Aizaz Cheema and he comes from Lahore but he plays for PIA. He's very fast and he swings it at pace too.

This is from 2008.

I wish him all the best in his retirement.:salute

Enjoyed watching him play and will never forget his last over Agaisnt Bangladesh in Asia cup he basically won us the game I felt he should have played more but wish him the best for the future
