Eng need to do some out of box planning to win in India.
One of the moves could be to open with Joss Buttler.Even if he gets40(50) on regular basis, Root, Stokes, Bairstow etc. in middle order can play around.
Thoughts?

Not if he keeps wickets.

Anyways it's highly unlikely as Burns is returning and Sibley played a good innings yesterday.

It’s shame that he would be available for only First Test ..

Buttler will only play 1 test, Bairstow has been dropped by ECB.

Even if he gets 40(50) on a regular basis? Bro that’s not “even”. 40 @ SR 80 is something difficult to achieve on a regular basis playing away from home at one of the toughest places, especially for someone who doesn’t usually open.

In india an opener job is to score big hundreds and not pretty 40 or 50 and setup the match. it might be good for SENA countries not in India

Jos Butler c Pant b Ishant 9(21).
The pushing and poking around was never going to help. Buttler looked to be positive from ball one but has slowly gone into a shell trying to defend Ishant from the crease. Prods at a 5th stump delivery and the edge carries to Pant who makes no mistake. This experiment of promoting Jos Buttler up the order was always a strategical Blunder.

He’s a middle order player. Don’t sacrifice a strength to plug a weakness. Stick with Burns and Sibley for now. Hameed will re-emerge soon I hope.

My team for the first test would probably be:

Burns
Sibley
Crawley
Root
Lawrence
Stokes
Buttler
Bess
Archer
Leach
Broad

Apart from Root and Stokes, Buttler is most suited to deliver against Indian bowling attack in India, so I would say, Yes.

Bowledstow will often get bowled out against our pacers upfront because they will attack stumps in these conditions and reap rewards.

However, the news is that Buttler is missing out from 2nd test onwards, so that is a loss for England.

The side will arguably be stronger with Foakes. I have long said he should be test keeper.

Bairstow has gone home.
