Should Hardik Pandya focus solely on becoming a specialist batsman?

Interesting question. Pandya’s bowling comes off every now and then but the actual potential of his talent is more visible with the bat. I think the guy has the shots and I believe he genuinely wants to do his best when he is out there on the crease. I don’t think he can do both and add equal value to the team as someone like Kapil Dev would. Personally I feel Pandya can go a long way with the bat if he shifts all of his efforts on batting and looks to bat in the top 5.

His best case would be to be a specialist fielder, take a couple of acrobatic catches every season (or atleast make them look acrobatic), dive around and develop solid throws from boundary. These things i.e hawabaazia matter the most in IPL, which he is perfect for. Not sure, if you realised, but his batting in the last 3 seasons of IPL has also become a bit a joke. Many people will be surprised that despite being the blue eyed boy of the management, he has scored 2 fifties in 50 matches of IPL he has played. That's why i believe his best case is being a specialist fielder.

He should try to become a specialist T20 player. Nothing more than that. Even Agarkar used to score these 20-30 runs. Never saw indian fans glorifying those innings. Ashwin is a better allrounder than this wannabe.

Ashwin is not great with bat , but has determination. He has played some very crucial innings down the order.

The problem with him is the lack of desire to make it big at test level. I am no expert but his face tells it he doesn’t care. He also doesn’t his back much in bowling.

Yes because he scored 20 runs today :)) positive signs for India because their batsmen have been getting out on single digits on this tour :))

Pandya is neither here nor there. He surely isn't a specialist batsman and will never be. His bowling is decent but does not make the team on merit. On English wickets Bhuvenshwar Kumar is better all rounder than Pandya by a country mile. There is no comparison in the bowling department as Kumar will outbowl all the Indian pacers in these conditions and in batting he will show resolve and determination.

The greatest 20s and 30s ever scored. Bhuvi can score about the same runs but will be far more lethal with ball in these conditions.

The looks a very good batsman needs to be backed a big score will eventually come.

Should focus purely on batting and only LOIs.

India either need to find some other part timers to share the load in LOI or draft in a proper allrounder instead. In tests he's not needed.

Too many times teams try and get players to focus on multiple formats but it usually doesn't work. Only the real top talents tend to pull it off e.g. Kohli etc. And when a player hasn't even cemented his place in one format, I think trying to make him play everything is a little foolish.
