Should Haris Sohail be in the starting XI for World Cup 2019, if fit?

Regardless of conditions or opposition, the fact that Pakistan are entering the last 15 overs of a 330 with a reasonable chance at victory - I can’t remember the last time, if ever that happened.

And the main reason for that is Haris’ brilliant century. Time for a few humble pies.

Your logic being? :))

I’m a great advocate of his but it’s hard to ignore his general struggles against pace and bounce.

He can milk both pace and spin for singles and doubles til the cows come home but he cannot accelerate at any given time.

This is why even when he is set, he cannot put away full-tosses by a part-timer.

He has a poor attitude towards fitness and being a smoker with bad knees does not help.

Happy with respectable defeat. That's the problem with the fans ever since Misbah's era.

Like I said he is an excellent batsman to have when chasing 240-250. Here we are chasing 330 and if a guy plays half of the team's innings and still only bats at 100 SR then we will struggle to win. Needed to increase SR to 120+ once he got his ton.

Some people are still hell bent on comparing his innings to Rizwan's innings.

Haris' innings was brilliant and only batsman who gave us a blink of chance while Rizwan's was good for first 80 runs but in last 7 overs we lost the match from a confirm winning position.

I can remember you once saying you don't rate 100s in dead rubbers.

But when 1 of your favourites scores it seems you change your mind . May I ask why the double standards?

I don't think he has an issue against pace, but yeah he can't pull/hook for his life.

He definitely has the ability to hit sixes like we've seen today and in the 3rd ODI vs NZ.

Rich man's Misbah, team will still lose under his batsmenship but at least the strike rate would be around 90 instead of Misbah's 70.

It’s not about happy with a respectable defeat. It’s about giving us a chance. If a batsman scores a century at over a run a ball chasing 6.5 runs an over and takes us deep, I would say that’s a very good innings. No other batsman played at a 100 strike or played a big innings and that is the issue.

Just out of interest, who in Pakistan would be a good batsman to have when we are chasing 330?

No one has said he is on the level of Kohli or a Warner etc but for a team like Pakistan, he is invaluable.

Also he scored 130 of 129.

That means that if everyone else scored just 22 odd runs from 19 balls each, we would have won. You can argue it’s easier for a set batsman to score faster but we needed a couple of cameos, or someone else to play at a decent rate. We haven’t had that.

My apologies for having criticised Harris Sohail and doubting his ability , while I’m not convinced on his fitness and physique but he’s one of the few players who can make up for that through his organised and consistent batting performances - full marks for the consistency of this guy, he is setting the standards for others to aim for now that he is getting 100s.

Brilliant innings once again, one should never doubt his talent. He is probably a left handed copy of Babar Azam, but is better than him at playing spin bowling. Both need to work on their six hitting ability and finishing off chases.

It was certainly a better innings today but I have lost confidence in his ability to play under pressure and his knack of getting out softly.

It bodes well that he is converting 50's into hundreds now. He is a must in the starting XI considering he is our best player against the big teams.

How are people still discussing this? Anyone who knows anything about cricket knew the answer to this question a long time ago.

You don't think scoring 130 in a chase of 328 after walking in at 1-1 in the first over is a pressure knock? He was just 10 runs away from the highest score by a Pakistani in a chase.

Now he is no Chris Gayle that he will score 130 in 80 balls.
He scored 130 in 129 balls and still he is to blame for not scoring quick enough?
Come on people don't be so deluded!

We dont have a player who is going to score at 150+ sr. Its a team game other players should stand up too not just rely on 1 in a match.

He has done well in this series and looks like he might be in the middle order. Also he bowls some useful left arm spin which might be a good thing to have in the World Cup.

Hmm it's all getting interesting.
People can not complain about the speed of that innings yesterday. It was perfect in the circumstances.
He just made the number 4 spot look interesting. I've always advocated a player that can run hard between the wickets and employ the sweep against spinners in that position, 2 things which he doesn't have, but yesterday was a very very good innings.
I'm starting to think we should get Babar to open with haris at 3 .

I know in hindsight everything seems obvious... but honestly how could anyone have thought Malik was a good swap for haris :'(

The difference in class between Mr tennis and Haaris is laughable. Horrible decision by the management to let the mediocre senior play over an actual genuine batsman for the first few games.
