Should Iftikhar Ahmed be given another chance?

There are also other posters on this forum who have confirmed that he is a massive age fudger.

I have no reason to dismiss their claims. Yes I know people who look older and younger than they are, but I have never seen a 28 year old who looks like him.

Obviously I cannot tell for sure what his actual age is, but I will be shocked if he is younger than 34-35.

I have nothing against him and I wish him well, but I don’t see the point of investing in a player who is already close to retirement age.

Age fudging is common in Pakistan cricket, but he has taken it to the next level. The PCB needs to do some investigation and find out is his real age. His stated YOB (1990) is a farce.
yes PCB needs to investigate this.

So disappointed by him today. I genuinely looked forward to see him give the ball a bit of a whack!

Can we delete this thread please?? asking for an uncle to be included in team.. just pathetic

a mental midget who is worse than khurram manzoor.

Not sure if he is mental midget or not, but he might have been a replacement for an injured hafeez if he had performed well (in case he had been picked for AUS tour)
struggles against short ball though, but still he could have been an option for a reserve player.

Not sure what people are looking at Ifti won't last an over in international cricket...

I have watched enough of him .Watch his debut shot in test against england in 2016 which tells alot about his mental ability. If not then check his stats in all the psl matches it will tell you the story.

If he cannot dominate local league how can we expect him to perform at high pressure international level

Has improved significantly with both bat and ball. We should work with the below lineup. Ifthikar, Hafeez can share the 5th bowling.

Imam
Fakhar
Babar
Sarfraz WK C
Ifthikhar
Hafeez
Asif Ali
Faheem
Shadab
Hassan
Shaheen

Extremely weak.

Only as a replacement for Hafeez, if Hafeez doesnt get fit in time for World Cup. They are both similar players and we should have only of these in the team at a time.

That bowling line-up is EXTREMELY weak. In your line-up, there are 2 proper bowlers for the condition - Hasan & Shaheen; Shadab not sure how much will be effective in UK and fast bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf might not make the squad, might serve the 3rd pacer's role though. Rest 10 overs to be shared by "clean" Hafeez, Iftekhar, Haris & may be Fakhar. Part-timers work as a surprise element, as 6th bowler; but if a team starts with a XI that indicates 10-12 overs will be bowled by part-timers, it often back fires, unless you are bashing ZIM reserves.

It doesn't work that way (increase batting depth to cover for top order weakness at the cost of bowling strength) - if PAK is to make SF, 3 pacers have to strike in their 30 overs, with solid back-up of 20 overs from Imad/Shadab/Faheem ..... and Babar has to enjoy the form of his life. This Imam, Fakhar, Sarfraz, Haris, MoHa, Malik line-up isn't going to do much in WC, where every team'll put their best available XI.

Khushdil is alot better prospect.

This guy is terrible in international. He is domestic bully

You would drop Haris for Hafeez and Ifthikhar?...

He does deserve a chance in the final 15 world cup squad, I would like to see :

1. Fakhar Zaman
2. Imam ul Haq
3. Babar Azam
4. Haris Sohail
5. Sarfaraz
6. Hafeez
7. Imad Wasim
8. Faheem Ashraf
9. Hassan Ali
10. Amir
11. Shaheen Afridi

12. Shadab Khan
13. Hasnain
14. Iftikhar Ahmed
15. Abid Ali

Iftikhar is in some serious form this year . Scored more than run a ball century today (109 off 89 ) to take his team home against Federal Areas. He is certainly making a case for himself to be given a chance in pak 50 overs team post world cup at least. he can a handy off spinner as well acn be relied upon to bowl at least 4-5 overs every match.

He so deserves a proper chance in the test and 50-over set up. Though I’m sure his detractors will continue to insist he is too “old”.

I think we haven’t seen his best at the international level yet. He deserves a proper chance after the World Cup. Averaging 51 at 90sr is no joke. Plus he can bowl economically too.

Last 3 innings:

109* off 89 balls
105 off 101 balls
54 off 57 balls

Looking at various PSL and Pakistan Cup scores, Iftikhar looks the best number 6 at the moment. Although he does not usually slog but can hit sixes at will. With his off spin he can be a good addition to the squad.

Nevertheless, Asif Ali is not meant for 50 over cricket, he is a hack who should be limited to T20.

Why did not Inzy select this guy as Shadab's replacement? He has been in good form with the bat, can play big shots, and cannot bowl worse than Yasir.

Was watching some PSL matches again. He was set up to fail (batting at 6 and bowling 1/2 overs) but still managed to leave a mark. Deserves to be looked in. He is a strong hitter of the ball.

He is ideal no 6

Not saying he is going to be 100% successful but he is our best bet. A good FC record and does well in List A/T20 games. You can't have tullaybaaz like Asif Ali batting at 6. You need someone who can come in when the score is 140/4 in 25-27 overs and also when the score is 220/4 in 38-40 overs. You need to be adaptable to both suitations to do well at that position.

Will never forget his mental disintegration against eng in 2016 test where he played pathetic shot .

He is mental midget who cannot take international cricket pressure+ another khurram manzoor in making. Less said about his "real" age

We should focus on bringing in players that have been through a proper cricketing structure (Babar Azam), plenty of school cricket as well as plenty of U19 games, PSL is also good for teaching them about pressure. Also with the new domestic structure we should also look to be developing cricketers at grass root level and are capable of playing international cricket without being worked out. Foreign coaches with proper qualifications should be brought in strictly, we do not need a home-made coach.

hes been tried and tested, looked average and is definitely over the age of 28. i really dont understand how he keeps getting selected for these camps... shouldve selected some fresh new players instead of rahat and ifti chacha

Hes a very good player and is someone that needs to bat at the lower order

Happy birthday to him

Born: September 3, 1990 (age 29 years), Peshawar, Pakistan

It's deeply disappointing that instead of investing in Saad Ali or Usman Salahuddin, Chacha Iftikhar is being considered. Saad was in a number of squads for various series yet never got a single chance. Usman Salahuddin got one chance and that too because Babar Azam got injured.

Btw what is Iftikhar's real age? Because he sure as hell does not look anything like 29.

He's a domestic bully and a supposedly blue-eyed boy of Misbah

You know previous domestic bullies?? Three of the most prolific are Younis Khan, Misbah and Haris Sohail. So give me some more domestic first class bullies!!

He still averages 40 lol. The three names you mentioned also happen to be great/very good batsmen. Such players do well on levels. Iftikhar is not an international calibre batsman. He was never viewed as one. Selecting him would mean not giving chances to more younger, more gifted batsmen.

The averages have generally been 5 or maybe 10 runs lower these past few years because of the pitches/ball used

Got in the 16 vs SL .. would be in the XI .... might turn up to be the surprise card... Him and Rizwan are dark horses in the team

Uncle Ifti is 29 yrs young, still good 15-16 yrs career he has left

He can play for good 5 years, if he remains fit. Name me anyone with his average and SR in domestic? He's the best we've got.

people cry abt him failing at international level but was he actually given a fair run? we gave asad shafiq more than 50 games.. umar akmal abt 100+ odiz ... Ifftikhar atleast deserves 50 odiz and 25 tests

misbah on Ifftikhar

Iftikhar has a 50 run average and has been a top performer in all formats plus he can be utilized at any position and can bowl 10 overs if asked to"

"He also serves as your 5th bowler, he can bowl anywhere in the innings, he can bowl 10 overs. He has done well in fitness tests. He's a mature player with performances, he's a three-dimensional player, he can field well and bowl and bat. If there is a batsman with a good record in the longer format and also has a good limited-overs format, it means he has both things. 91 SR, 51 avg, he knows how to play in different situations. He couldn't come into the team before as Hafeez and Malik were there but he provides a middle order batting and off spin option"

I don't think Iftikhar will last long in international cricket, but you can't deny that he doesn't deserve a go. Tbh he's never been given a proper chance. Though i would have liked to see saud shakeel.

Iftikhar gave up the chance to play club cricket in the UK the last 2 seasons and make some easy and decent money. Instead he stayed back in Pakistan and put in the hard yards at the NCA.

He deserves the opportunities he is getting.

He was Pakistan's best batsman in the Australian T-20 series but this was a poor knock today.

According to saeed ajmal he played with his older brother, and claims he’s been playing first class cricket since 1974?

Lol! So Ajmal wasnt the only wizard. Iftikhar must be in his mid 60s by now if we accept that claim assuming he was 19-20 when he started FC cricket. :misbah
