Not sure if the selectors can ignore his batting form. Whether that is a case of been there, seen it all type situation is one thing but he is making a strong statement in the ongoing Nat T20

Thoughts?

He’s been failing until his last 2 games. I’d say Umar Amin and Sahibzada Farhan are making more of a statement

Oh please....not him again. There are certain players who lost it at international level long time ago and Kamran Akmal is one of them. Sure he will score tons of runs in domestic cricket, and so will the likes of Imran Farhat and others...but he has had far too many chances and I would strongly discourge his comeback again.

No. After watching his fielding in West Indies, Mickey Arthur will make sure that Kamran Akmal will not come anywhere near the team.

We need to move on from him. He's been rubbish whenever he's been recalled .

He is a domestic bully, who fails almost every time he plays international matches for Pakistan. No need to call such a player, especially when we have 2 aggressive and quality openers in Fakhar Zaman and Umar Amin.

Anyone with even half a brain cell would not pick Akmal. He is without doubt, the worst batsman we have ever had in our history that was given consistent chances. Add to this his absolutely atrocious keeping and it is criminal that he has been given hundreds of matches. We talk about Afridi building a career from one brilliant innings, but I think thats the case with Akmal too. And Akmal's innings is far more overrated.

I might be optimistic here but I think his career is basically over. There is suddenly a lot of competition for the opening slot. Fakhar is still a sure starter and Imam did more than enough to be retained. Azhar will come back in after a very good Champions Trophy, most likely at the expense of Shehzad. If they add another opener it will be Amin, who took his chance in the final t20, is performing well in the National T20 and more importantly is younger, fitter, and more in line with the dynamic team we have been putting out.

Why not? Lets bring back Mohammad Sami, Mohammad Irfan, Zulfiqar Babar, Shahid Afridi, Anwar Ali, Kamran Akmal, Umar Gul, Asad Shafiq as well

If any Akmal is brought back, selector Inzamam will be decimated on social media and it'll affect Imam ul Haq and PSL. They doing well than others will destroy the interest amongst Pakistani people that has rekindled for Pakistani cricket. There is this National T20 Cup progressing, a lot of ppl stiopped following it when HAfeez and Akmal teams did well, the reason is there is belief that their opponent deliberately helped the TTFs performance by fielding/bowling. Salman Butt who scored well today in todays match was dropped thrice, I did'nt watch the match but read it on social media. No one is interested in telling how much he scored.

Favoritism and nepotism[to select Akmal or Butt] is bad business and marketing for PCB.
Recently a cricinfo posted a innings vdo clip and news for Umar Akmal when he made a century. PAkistanis not only criticised cricinfo for lack of reporting on Quaid e Azam but accused the site of bias not mentioning U. Akmal's pathetic scores in the Quaid e Azam trophy before this one innings, or the othr talents who made remarkable scores like double tons by Saad Ali and Israrullah, which is true, cricinfo did not post reports on any of the performances in QEA.

With social media becoming the new watchdog, one can't get away by making this terrible mistake.

He is playing well. Just give him three chances as an opener and if he fails to deliver, then he will have no complaints even if dropped permanently. :)

Didn't he already get a recall in West Indies and failed like no tomorrow? How many recalls is he going to get?

You forgot the legend.... chacha Ifti

Where will we adjust him?

1) T20s? Na we are number 1. Little to no team changes needed at the moment.
2) ODIs? Na, we just won CT and whitewashed Lanka, so little to no team changes needed at the moment.
3) Tests? We do need some replacements, but unfortunately Kami, both you and Butt average 30 in tests, plus both of you come with strings attached (dropped catches and fixing respectively).

I don't think 4 good innings is enough for him. I will be very surprised if he is recalled for the New Zealand series, the only way we will ever see him in a Pakistan shirt again is if he has an excellent PSL as the quality of cricket is higher there.

Hopefully he won't be anywhere near the squad. He definitely reminded the selectors and the coaches of what he could do against West Indies this year. I think he made a good case to not get picked again. But then again Inzi does have a soft spot for Kamran

No as he's been ample chances and has failed.

Plus why change an LOI squad that beat Sri Lanka 8-0 ?

Simple answer is NO!!!

Simple answer is NO! We can not just go back to the tried and tested for years now in their late 30's at this stage anymore.

Especially when some young ones are doing well in domestic, it is time for them to be brought on board and given exposure and worked upon within the setup.

This guy fielding is worse than a 50 year old and the least we talk about his batting the better.

I question the memory of every person who even raises the question of his recall.

Each time Kamran has been recalled in recent times its been due to good domestic performances. Each time he has been given a consistent run and failed. He is also closer to 40 than 30.

When will we learn? Not just selectors but fans?

Kamran Akmal in ODIs and T20Is since 2013

So this is the time of year where due to good domestic performances the "Bring Kami back" brigade is coming out of hibernation. In the past 4 years, Kamran has not been a fixture team yet each come back has been made due to good performances in domestic cricket.

So let's look at how he has done in that period

ODIs

16 games, 306 runs, hs 81, an average of 19.12, a strike rate of 82

That high score of 81 also came against the mighty Scotland. It was innings so great that legend has that each part of Willam Wallace's dismembered body shook in its grave.

T20s

9 games, 139 runs, HS 48, an average of 15.44 , Strike Rate of 100

So keeping in mind "just give me 3 chances," What do Kami advocates believe has changed this time?

I feel a lot of the support for Kami comes due to the fact he is an incredibly nice person just like Shafiq who also gets similar support, but such things are irrelevant to selection.

He is playing well. Just give him three chances as an opener and if he fails to deliver, then he will have no complaints even if dropped permanently. :)

Been there, done that, he turns into a mental midget once he puts on the green.

We are better off investing in youngsters, they are a proven commodity and if PCB still don't realize that after the younger players won us the champions trophy then nothing will...

I think his boat has already sailed. His fielding simply good enough to warrant a place in the side, especially with Sarfraz there.

No, his career ended when he was dropped despite outperforming Shehzad. Don't expect any 30+ players to return under Mickey.

In ODI's his fielding is a liability and batting too inconsistent to make up for it.

For t20's though if he really is outperforming every other opener in Pakistan, then sure why not? I don't like the Akmals but i can't pretend we couldn't still do with a clean hitting right hander at the top of the order. Pakistan desperately needs hitters still.

He is one of Inzi's personal favourites. Plus the guy is like that, he easily has a lobby which may have finished now due to players leaving...but he was there because of that core group and he was there laadla

The only TTF I can tolerate just about now is Imran Nazir, although I think he is incapable of performing at international level

I think Pakistan test team might see some old guards returning. This is the pitfall of losing a test series against a team who had just been whitewashed. Not only Kamran, there will be other players who might sneak their way in to Pakistan test squad.

I think it is now :(

He’ll probably make it to the squads, doubt he will start though. I guess the positive of it would be that we will have a reserve WK incase sarfraz gets banned for a poor over-rate

For the Test team there def needs to be changes but as far as I know there is no Tests for the NZ tour.

So Kamran has no basis to be selected - our one day team is doing fine without him. If anything younger faces for those formats.

no not kamran. Hafeez and shehzad are thet wo I would bring back. i wouldnt bring back any of the akmals. They are toxic and it would be a disaster!

You don't see innings of 150 in a 20 over match every day. He's doing all he can but I really hope he doesn't get a call up because in WI he didn't do much and Mickey Arthur stresses the importance of youth.

Well the conditions and opposition that helped Kamran Ak(drop)mal make the score should also be considered.

One should also look into his keeping also, still is no.1 in dropping catches in a tournament where evry match had 3-4 catches dropped.
He does'nt deserve a recall in any manner.

A recall for an opener is most deserved for Mukhtar Ahmed or Sharjeel should be somehow brought back.

As a Keeper Batsman, this guy has the capability to win matches on his day. He does produce a gem of a knock once in a blue moon. Would i take him over Sarfaraz in T20s? yes, on the basis of him being a decent lower order hitter or even an opener. But can I afford to relinquish the captaincy skills of Sarfaraz in this current set up? No way!

Kamran Akmal cant play just as a batsman because he isnt physically capable to field at the standard of the current Pakistan side. Sarfaraz Ahmad on the other hand, may well be better suited to captain as a batsman, but does he get into the side merely as a batsman?

This is confusing situation

did you see irfans bowiling he was begging please pull me for six

Please Posters:stokes ...

Kami hitting trundlers and scoring runs. If he really wants to embarrass himself against international teams he is welcome to do that but that 'll cost pakistan so NO THANKS..

keep scoring runs in domestic but not allowed back in pak team for the millionth time...

Posters have obviously forgotten he was dropped primarily because of his fielding, not his batting.

He isn't coming back.

He would singlehandedly ruin any progress we’ve made as a fielding side if he were to come back.

Why can't selectors ignore?

The guy is trash and also has a rather shady history.

Akmals, Shahzad and Hafeez should never play for Pakistan again!

I think, Akmal, performing consistently is ignored because Sarfaraz has become captain. Sarfaraz might have won CT, but he is yet to prove his batting. In my view I would definitely drop Imad, Sarfaraz, and Amir as they are not performing and bring back Akmal brothers, at least in T20 and ODI. Also, I still feel we have not able to find an explosive opener, so why not give a recall to Butt and Afridi who can play as they are very talented.

My XI would be

K Akmal
Salman Butt
Afridi
U Akmal (C)
Hafeez
Malik
Sohail Tanvir (VC)
Anwar Ali
Md. Sami
Umar Gul
What Riaz

Now we have batting depth till 11, as What can bat as well. And I would make Umar Akmal as my captain, and Sohail Tanvir as VC.

I think, Mickey Arthur should be sacked as he is not allowing such talented players into his side. We should not blame Inzi, he is keen to build a great team for us full of talented players such as Akmals, Sami, Butt etc.

For all the reasons we say , Mickey was lucky to have won CT somehow. Even Inzi does not have guts to elect these talented players. Instead Mohsin Khan should be made coach , as he always had eyes for talented players, and Iqbal Qasim/ HAroon Rashid should be made selector, so that there is some stability in team.
Right now under Mickey arthur there is unnecessary emphasis on fitness. He does not like star powers, he thinks he is the boss and he feels jealous because of fan following of some star players. He is proven pathetic player.

He gives undue space for Imad, Sarfaraz and Amir. All 3 did not deserve to play in CT finals. Sarfaraz was lucky that his catch was dropped against SL. I think Mickey is the most nepotistic individual, he treat all these 3 as his own sons. while all these 3 have produced no results. He destroyed the career of Umar Akmal. U Akmal is very talented and is not deserved to be treated in this way. I heard Abdul Qadir's interview, and he stated that there is some conspiracy going against U akmal, Adnan and Kami.

Reasonable display in Semis today 30 off 23

Next tour is after 3 months gap, so I think they'll call a camp of 25-30 players before announcing NZ squad - he'll definitely be there. If he can prove fitness, I think he'll make the squad as well; in fact, logical as well for 8 match series with just 1 WK, who happens to be Captain and not the fittest guy around.

Don't know whether to laugh or cry about the fact that its nearly 2018 and people are still discussing a call-up for Kamran Akmal.

He shouldn't be selected. He had many comebacks, he failed to keep his spot.

I am of the view that good domestic performances of players who had years of international experience should be taken with a grain of salt. In Kamran's case we are talking about over a decade of international exposure with too little to brag about. It should be common sense that after facing top quality international standard bowling attack, these veterans find it easy to bully domestic bowlers. While the likes of Ahmed Shehzad and Umer Akmal have age on their side, Kamran doesn't.

I would prefer giving Mukhtar Ahmed a chance over Kami paaji, simply because he is a youngster with little international experience whose best is yet to come. He still has the fire in his belly and had no scars of bad past failures after failures.

While with Kami paaji, Mashallah, we have already seen his best and in this 100th comeback of his, he isn't going to outperform himself.

Looks like everybody is slamming into him.

Just give him three chances and see what happens.

No need to give a chance to a failed cricketer with a poor attitude and questionable integrity.

Pak ODI team is on the up and very dangerous. It's full of youth and thankfully door is shut for Kamran and hopefully soon to Shahzad too

Imad maybe was lucky. Sarfaraz was excellent throughout and Amir was steady until the final!!

It is a TEAM game and we won due to good fielding and fitness too.

There's enough star power without egotistic individuals leeching our team like parasites.

There is now minimal nepotism!

He's not going to replace Sarfaraz so the question is will they play him as a batsman and then trust his fielding.

And breathe. He has not been named in the probables for the training camp ahead of the NZ series so it seems that a recall is NOT imminent.:amir

Maybe he isn't selected because Inzy bhai knew that he wouldn't pass the fitness test and when that is done he will be called as a replacement for Azhar because of his bad knee :yk

Kamran Akmal 157 for Central Punjab in Round 2 of QEA

Kamran Akmal scored his 31st FC ton in the Quad e Azam Trophy – Pakistan’s domestic league – on Saturday. He is now the Asian wicketkeeper-batsman with the most First Class centuries to his name and the second most prolific wicketkeeper-batsman in the history of cricket.

Playing for Central Punjab against Northern in the ongoing domestic match, Akmal set the Faisalabad stadium alight with a 170-ball 157. He batted at a strike rate in excess of 92 and there were four sixes and twelve fours in his innings.

Akmal’s 31 FC centuries is higher than more established names in Asia such as MS Dhoni and Kumar Sangakkara. In fact, there is only one wicketkeeper in the history of cricket who has more FC centuries to his name than Kamran Akmal – Les Ames (56 FC centuries), who played for Kent and England in the first half of the 20th century.

Sangakkara has 64 FC centuries to his name but most of those tons came in matches when he had been playing as a specialist batsman. Dhoni has 9 FC centuries to his name. Sri Lanka’s Kaushal Silva, with 26 FC centuries, is the Asian wicketkeeper who is closest to Kamran Akmal’s record.

Les Ames and Kamran Akmal are the two most prolific FC century scorers in the world. The third spot is held by Adam Gilchrist, with 29 FC centuries.

Despite being out of the Pakistan side since 2017, Akmal, in a recent interview said, “I will continue to play until and unless my form deserts me and I’m no longer fit enough to play,” he said. “The example of Younis Khan and Misbahul Haq is infront of us as they contributed for Pakistan despite being in their late 30s and early 40s.”

First round of matches we had Sami Aslam as an opener, Now we have found Kamran Akmal.
Every time anyone scores runs there will be fans saying this person should have been in the Pakistan side etc.
Next round of matches and we might discover Fahim Ashraf is the Ben Stokes we have been looking for.
