From what I understand, Najam Sethi will not be attending the opening ceremony.

Seems odd that the man who was instrumental in setting up this project will not feature in the opening ceremony. Says a lot about those in top management who were then his best buddies and of course in my view, does not reflect well on the current administration.

No need to invite him. Understand he was instrumental in the early stages but it's time to move on.

He was the brain behind the furnished and successful product that is PSL today. Very unfair to not even invite and discard him like a nobody.

Absolutely. He should have been invited.

It appears that our current PCB head is a proud representation of "small men occupying big offices".

Najam Sethi showed a lot of class and maturity by peacefully stepping aside from the PCB even though he could have stood his ground. Stark contrast to what Zaka Ashraf did

the guy whose arrogance c0st us losing to bcci in international court.
Pakistan board has paid $1.5 million to the BCCI in legal costs after losing the ICC arbitration

if he is alone not responsible for that mess then he is no body to take all the credit of psl.

Ehsan mani is too lenient on not inquiring this case which seems odd because we were told by some imran khan will not let him spare for any tiny reason he can found

Lets see now.
How did his tenure end and did he have any bad words to say about the PCB, IK etc
No issues regarding expenses and what not?

Was he a supporter of corruption prior to and during his tenure?

yup he have shown class in various aspect

1)Delaying the signing of big 3 contract when pcb was left with peanut regarded FTP.Want hint of masterclass we are yet to host england,nz,aus properly after signing that MOU which was thanks to mr sethi arrogance of not signing the contract in time.on the other hand SL had much better ftp then us.

2)First putting recommendation to bcb after they agreed all the term Canceling the whole tour without any reason .

3)Doing a bhangra over little mou which has least value and ground realities .Damaging pakistan cricket for personal vendetta and casing pcb $ 1.5 million in international icc arbitration.

4)Giving a important post of media department to his relative

i think these are enough for now .

In response to our query about his absence from the PSL 4 opening ceremony, Mr. Sethi replied

"They did not invite me to the opening ceremony. But it does not matter. My best wishes are reserved for PSL because it belongs to all Pakistanis."

From Sethi on Twitter

"I shall miss the roar of the crowd when wickets tumble and sixers are rained in Dubai stadium tonight. But I shall watch every ball on the telly in my room in Lahore and pray for the resounding success of PSL4!"

Najam Sethi emotional when asked about abscence from PSL Opening Ceremony

Even his harshest critics have criticized the PCB and PTI led government for not inviting him or giving him any sort of credit for the PSL product.

A lot of us probably don't even know the enormous challenges the PCB had to over come and the tremendous risks they took when launching the PSL in 2016. I felt bad seeing him become emotional and it must hurt to see other piggyback off your baby.

Very sad, this is the kind of Pakistan we want? The actual innovator that creates something for the country is not credited and applauded for his creation?

Sad times.

Even if they didn't invite him, someone with Ehsan Mani's background and experience should have had the courtesy to pay some sort of tribute to his predecessor for the product

"I am in Lahore but my heart is in Dubai with my friends, our players and the people of Pakistan" : Sethi - Voice breaking up as if he's about to cry

This guy also lost a case to BCCI which cost the PCB over a million $s in BCCIs legal fees.

After the BCCI row and taking it up to legal proceedings, PCB must remain free from Sethi.

The amount of money the PCB has made via the PSL is ten times more than the legal fees. Very easy to criticize after the fact, the lawyers had told the PCB that they had a strong case, the PCB should go after the lawyers for misleading it tbh.

So?

The problem here is that you put people on pedastools and credit one person for everything when in reality the PSL was always going to happen and chances of it’s success were always going to be high given the support/fan base.

Nope the PSL was not going to happen with the usual risk averse, old fashioned buffoons in the PCB, Sethi made the difference. Why didn't Zaka do it way back in 2012 if it was that simple and easy?

a big showoff guy. Don't like him after how he has defended Sarfraz despite even Pakistani fans saying Sarfraz deserved the ban. wearing a suit doesn't make one intellectual.

Rubbish.

Ask yourself how he got the job in the first place.

Honestly stop hyping up rubbish.

Lol, same way Mani did. Its all about results and Sethi delivered PSL for Pakistan Cricket for which future generations will be eternally grateful for

He should have been invited, but the fact that he wasn't is interesting.

Perhaps there is more to this than meets the eye.

Almost certainly there is..

Truth will out, probably in the courts.

Was Mani the mouthpiece of IK in the press?
Did Mani help IK win the election?

Also, why do you assume that I’m happy with Mani’s appointment?

Pathetic stuff from ehsan mani.

He should remember, psl is there because of Sethi. Psl matches take place because of sethi

If Sethi never existed PSL would still be here today. It was an idea long before Sethi came near Pak cricket.

He wasn't required to be present so there was no need to invite him.

Ahh no.

It looks like you have started watching cricket just now.

Psl was an idea that was pitched by naseem ashraf.

They pitched the idea but couldnt set it up. Remember during that time cricket was being played in pakistan.
Najem left, ijazz butt came and yet no work

zaka ashraf came and he couldnt set it up.

When najem sethi was setting up psl, everyone was against it. People said having a league in a foreign country wasnt even possible. Even zaka bashed najem for it.

At the end, najem sethi pulled it off.

Before najem sethi there were 3 chairmans and they couldnt do it.

Psl is a very big achievement. Because cricket in pakistan is not happening and yet a pakistani domestic tournament happening in a foreign country successfully.

If cricket returns to pakistan it will not be only because of psl but also because of sethi.
By having psl matches in pakistan very steadily he got the wheels moving.

So please dont make such childish claims that anyone could had made psl.

Srilanka board tried making there t20 league and they failed.
Infact, imran khan once said that when he will come into power he will have the whole psl in pakistan and he continued bashing sethi for having 2-3 matches in pakistan

And now look Ehsan mani couldnt get the whole tournament in Pakistan like his boss had promised.

Psl exist because of sethi hence should had been invited

Do you really believe if there was no Sethi there wouldn't be PSL today. This idea has been around since the IPL came into play. Just because it wasn't set up before Sethi doesn't mean it wouldn't have happened.

He's not in Dubai and good, his supporters can feel what they like. He came from a corrupt party whose leaders are now rotting in jail, it's enough to keep him away.

Again re read my post.

Pitching in an idea and actually making it a reality is a big difference. 3 chairmans came and couldnt do it.

When it was being made he was bashed.

Also mods should delete ur thread. Bring proof of sethis corruption.

It would have happened anyway if Sethi wasnt around. lol

I wrote he " He came from a corrupt party whose leaders are now rotting in jail, it's enough to keep him away." This is a fact, so no need to ask anyone to remove what is factual history. :inti

The PSL already is more lucrative than the BPL even though it is not even being played in its home country. The Sri Lankans abandoned their league after one season. The South Africans had to abandon their league and even their league right now didn't look all that impressive.

Was there anything stopping him from going over as a paying customer or does he only attend when it's on freebies....?

It's called self respect. You don't go somewhere where you are not invited

Well I guess fans better not show up for any cricket matches ever again, unless they have a personal invitation. Good luck with that..... :)))

Absolutely not.

No need.

Ex means ex. And he also handed over a loss of more than one million dollars to the PCB.

For his ego.

in a perfect world, yeah he should have been invited.

but given how closely PCB (PSL) and politics function, makes total sense that Sethi wouldn't be invited. Seems totally okay to me

Not being invited must have been a painful thing for the man who probably worked tirelessly to make the event a success. I do not believe that political affiliations and grudges should bar us from doing the morally correct things in life. Sethi sab should have been invited out of respect.

Good News!

PCB have confirmed that Mr. Sethi has been invited to attend PSL final in Karachi by the PCB

Wonder if he will attend, will be awkward if Imran Khan attends as well.

Mr. Sethi has told us

I gather that PCB has “invited” (air fare, hotel etc) some ICC officials for the Karachi events. I have received no such invitation from PCB Chairman

Savak, your man wasn't invited again today

Savak, your man wasn't invited again today

Why would the PCB gave an incorrect statement then?

Or it could be that Sethi is not interested in going.
