Should other sides fear England's spin attack in the ICC T20 World Cup?

I understand that judging any bowling attack by how they bowl against Pakistan is fraught with assumptions that may not hold later but looking at how the trio bowled in the 2nd T20I does seem to indicate that England spinners could well give them an edge in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

Agree?

Matt Parkinson admits to grappling with some "dark moments" during a long winter away with England spent on the sub-continental sidelines as he now stars in the white-ball series against Pakistan.

Parkinson was an ever-present on the winter tours of Sri Lanka and India, spending three long months on the road in restrictive bio-secure conditions, failing to make a single competitive appearance.

The 24-year-old legspinner won praise from head coach Chris Silverwood for his hard work and positive attitude but Parkinson told reporters on Monday that he was not always able to keep his chin up.

"It was a tough three months not playing this winter, there were some dark moments in rooms in India," he said.

"Obviously you're very grateful to be on an England tour, and it has done me wonders, but you want to play and be involved. I didn't think I'd got any better; I didn't think 'this is a waste', but I got down very easily.

"You can get really, really down, but I realised when I got back home, after about a month, how much I'd improved.

Imam-ul-haq was completely deceived by this superb delivery from Matt Parkinson that turned square to take out his middle stump
"To have had those three months working there, bowling each day to the likes of Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and then the white-ball lads, I don't think you appreciate it when you're there.

"People were saying to me 'oh, this looks different' and I think it takes time for it to set in and takes time for you to see. Other people can see it straight away.

"I'm very grateful I went on that trip. I probably wasn't when I came back, but I am now.

"If you'd asked me two weeks ago if I'd have played five internationals for England this summer and taken some wickets I'd have probably laughed at you."

In the past two weeks, Parkinson has picked up six wickets across those five international caps and starred alongside Adil Rashid in a series-levelling T20I win over Pakistan at Headingley on Sunday.

The pair's eight overs cost a total of just 55 runs, for the loss of three wickets, and it was suggested to Parkinson that it may be a tactic that is used again - be it on Tuesday for the third T20I in Manchester or in the forthcoming T20 World Cup.

"Not many teams would do that to be fair. It is a rare thing," Parkinson said. "Hopefully I've performed well enough for England to consider playing two legspinners again.

"I know Rash is number one and an absolute gun bowler but I'd like to think this week has helped me push my case forward.

"If I was an understudy, I don't think there's many better role modes to learn from than Rash so if that's a role I have to do then that's fine."

Rashid is very good. The 3rd best limited overs leggie in the world. He bowls excellent lengths which is why our batsmen did not know what to do in the 2nd T20.

I wouldn't fear them at all.

Parkinson is pathetic, a guy who only spins it one way should have been dispatched thoroughly on that wicket.

Moeen rarely bowls and yesterday was a day where his bowling paid off, but he's a 1-2 overs bowler, I don't think he has the skill to bowl 4 overs without getting whacked around.

Oppositions with quality batsmen would dispatch these two.

Adil Rashid is the only world class spinner England possess.

Rashid is good but others are not that good.I don’t think teams will fear English spinners. They will fear English batsmens though. If any of Butler,Roy Livingston or Bairstow get in then they will score quickly.Spin may the best option against them.

Rashid is brilliant, not sure if Parkinson and Moeen will both play with Curran, Wood and Archer coming back. I guess it'll just be Moeen.

Dont need to fear them per se, but that bowling has all bases covered to complement their batting in these conditions

Don't be fooled by how Pakistan made them look. The manner in which Maqsood, Fakhar, Hafeez and Azam gave their wickets is cheap, and won't be the case against good batters.

Don't think their's much to fear however they shouldn't be taken lightly.

England's management and analysis team is the best in the world and it's certain that they will know the strengths and weaknesses of each team and select the correct spinners for those specific matches. It also works to England's advantage that their pool contains no real spin dominating team, so with the correct planning and execution England's spinners can be the key for them to get far ahead in this years tournament

Rashid is good, but I wouldn't be too concerned overall.

Pak management completely misread the conditions and the scoreboard pressure was too much for the batters, plus Pak have been poor chasers.

Do this again, but with Pak batting first and you'll see a different result against the spinners.

Most fearful spin attack will be of Afghanistan. Facing Rashid Khan, Mujeeb & Nabi would be extremely tough on a slow track.
Next best would be New Zealand actually. Both Santner & Ish sodhi will be really difficult to get away. They also performed really well in the last T20 WC in India.

Afghanistan has 16 world class overs of spin.

Rashid
Nabi
Muzeeb
Noor
They are gonna cause major upsets this time for sure.

Afghanistan will reach semis for sure. They have the world's best spinners in their sides, mujeeb and Rashid are very talented. I think they will beat England, New Zealand and Oz.

batting will let Afgan down. But I can see them winning against Bangladesh, Pakistan & Ireland. Beating one of India or NZ would propel them to Semifinals.

Lets see how they go against Pakistan today - conditions seem tailor made for spinner
.

England's spinners combined figures today:

11 overs
75 runs conceded
5 wickets
Economy-rate of 6.81

Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid are decent. Parkinson is mediocre.

England bowling depends on Archer, Wood and Willey. All very good T20 bowlers.

West Indies and India will decimate them. As a matter of facts, they will decimate any spinner in this upcoming WC.
