Should Pakistan declare their first innings in the spirit of the game?

England also should be allowed to bat.

It will be something for the game amd fans.

If I was Azhar I would offer to forfeit 1 innings each right now ( innings 2 n 3) and then carry on batting.
I think 250 is a very good score

This is actually a great suggestion. I believe it has actually happened in test cricket before.

No need for declaration.

Let them battle hard, grind out for as many as five days.

Pakistan should only think to climb up to the mountains, there is no point running backward.

Let Rizwan hit double hundreds and triple and make hay. Our prayers and love are with him.

Pakistan’s best chance of victory is for it to remain a low-scoring match and for time to be taken out of the game so that England chase on Day 5 against the clock and the weather as well as against a score.

So if Pakistan can remain at the wicket and score another 10 runs, great.

Pakistan is 9 down. Mostly like England will take the last wicket withing 10 minutes. What difference does it make to declare?

It will send a message that Pakistan are all about this thing.

Besides, and more importantly, it will be in the spirit of the game.

Pak should just forfeit the match, an even more genius idea and will surely lead to a icc team spirit or whatever it is called trophy - 100% worth it.

No decision should be made based on 'spirit of the game' - that is antiquated and irrational concept, much like taking lunch and team at the exact time

Pak should declare, two days left in the game - probably a lot less given the weather and all-around laziness of administrators. No real point of trying to add 10-20 runs, let the bowlers have a go.
They should wait till the last minute to declare, keep the English openers guessing and double-minded

Short answer is No.

The game is dead rubber now. If they really wanted to the captains could’ve got together and said they were happy to play but considering half the English team went back into their hotels at lunchtime shows that they didn’t want to play today.

Personally I’d be more than happy to have England work hard for their last wicket. I don’t see much cricket happening the next two days so I’d make england toil. The worse the scorecard looks in terms of getting a result the more chance the ICC, MCC and ECB or whoever would be inclined into reacting to the shambles we’ve seen in terms of this being called “the highest level of cricket”

Pak should. There is still a result possible IF there are no further weather interventions. If the ball swings through out the rest of the game, we may have a good contest between the two teams. I however have never been a fan of Misbha's cricket ideology and I doubt he would encourage Azhar to do it.

No, but two captains should sit down and agree to forfeit one innings each and make it a 1 innings shootout.u

What shootout?
There is an excellent chance to get draw points for WTC thanks to rain.
Why to throw those away for guaranteed zero points by losing the game?

Pakistan shouldn't declare. Draw is not bad for them as it can help them avoid going behind West Indies.

0-3 loss means Pakistan go behind West Indies in ranking.

With Pakistan team still result is possible if England managed to give even 150 lead, Pakistan can loose this match

If it was before the World Test Championship matches, I would say agree to declare second & third innings, and allow England to get the last wicket then try and chase down whatever the total is. However with championship points on the table, no. A draw is better for us.

Does the position on the table matter if you cant end up in top two spots. The shootout may give you chance to get to second spot perhaps with lots of wins in remaining series, but a draw may not enough anyway. Besides chasing 230 on this pitch and overhead conditions we may have a decent chance.

Does azhar even know what is spirit of a game
If he knewed he would have announced his retirement after losing his wicker in 1st innings of this test match

UK is all showers at the moment so there are no options for Pakistan or England, other than order some pakoras and enjoy with tea, perfect combo in rain.

ideal now if weather holds tomorrow to make it a one innings shoot out

A wasted opportunity.

I wish cricket was still a game of men.

They can still do it. England declare overnight and pakistandeclare too just let them chase 230...
