Should sports cheats be forgiven?

I know we have the example of M Amir but I am also referring to drug cheats in other sports.

Should we learn to forgive and move on?

depends on the of cheating.

Drug cheat will always be forgiven as to a fan what matters is the final result. Fans don't care if a player cheats as it will benefit the team or the winning country overall.

For example akhtar taking drugs to boost his performance, Pakistan would had benefited from a doped Akhtar.
At the end he got caught, but people dont really care about it.

As for corruption, that i dont think could be forgiven. Throwing a match away or even fixing overs could have an effect on the final outcome of the game. Betting money on the nation is a really big offence for which i think there should be no forgiveness.

Playing for Pakistan is national honor not someones right.


As for the drug use, i only watch cricket, so i was taking on cricket into context. I know that by using drugs a player won't end up swinging the ball and if he does increase his pace its not like he would go uptil 170 kph.

I dont follow any other sport so dont have a good idea of to what extent could the drugs have in other competitive sports.

It's a case by case thing, depends on their age, circumstances, mental state, how sorry they are, if they've been punished and whether they've tried to make amends.

even in criminal trials one could be tried as an adult depending on his maturity. Thing is we dont know the person thus dont know his maturity so we cant use the age excuse.

also i have seen how the ages are faked in Pakistan cricket circles.

I can understand why he did it but it's like the "chicken and egg" dilemma.

Was he cheating cause they were OR were they cheating cause he was?

After all, he was the #1 sprinter in 1987 before Carl Lewis took over for a year (by doping).

Age is a big factor, in fact frontal cortexes aren't fully developed until 26-27. Why do you think the drinking age is 21 in America or why you have to be a certain age to do certain stuff. Age isn't an excuse, it's a biological reality.

No the should not. Being an example to youngsters they deserve a live ban from whatever Sport they are representing.

I think spot-fixing or match-fixing should result in lifetime bans. No question.

Ball tampering should result in temporary bans (maybe 6 months ban).

Other cheatings should have more lenient penalties I guess.
