Should strike rates in domestic T20/List A be the main factor for selection for ODI/T20I teams?

Our batting line up is definitely the most out dated among all major teams right now. We cannot have Azhar Ali opening the batting for us in this era. Team's like Australia, England, South Africa, NZ, India e.t.c have packed their sides with a maximum of 2 solid batsmen with the ability to go beserk at the end while the rest of the batsmen have the ability to hit big from ball 1.

There were plenty of hard hitting aggressive batsmen on display in the National T-20 and it was dissapointing to see that some of the players did not get selected by any franchise in the PSL. I am hoping that this season of PSL can help us draft in replacements for our ODI and T-20 teams.

But clearly the selectors, captains, coaches need to lay down the lay down the law that a strike rate less than 90 is unacceptable in the modern format and if you are not touching that then you will not get selected for the national side.

Yes strike rate is very important

Best ODI combination

2 to 3 good quality test batsman(with great stroke play, we don't any right now), one attacking opener, can be specialist LOIs player. Your top 4 should always be like that, all quality team have this pattern. Until Pakistan team doesn't solve this problem then we will continue to be extremely mediocre. We have seen this trend for last 10-12 years of losing three wickets within 10 to 15 overs. The rest of the batting order should consist of big hitters.

Since the retirement of Inzamam and Mohammad Yousuf, we haven't got a decent ODI and TEST player. Azhar and Asad Shafiq are rubbish in ODIs

This is our BIGGEST problem right now.

@ Savak, do you really beleive our selectors watch actual cricket matches and try to un-earth talent?
Also, if we drop some seniors then other branch of seniors or nepotism will take place.
So we need an honest selector without being bias from any interference and Inzi brigades are not capable of that. Strike rate is important if they select proper players not like Afridi 8 (3) or Akmal 20 (8)

Forgot about Shafiq as well. He may replace Babar since he is very successful in recent tournament and Kami may replace Fakhar.

Unless we complete stop recycling garbage players we can never prosper

I know what you are saying but my point is that we don't have test batsmen who have the ability to play free flowing strokes but are solid and reliable like Smith, Root , Kohli,Warner, Amla and AB. You need at least two of them in the line up to be the backbone of the team.

One of the reason is Pakistan playing one dimensional batting line up in test team.

I hope Babar and Haris can be those two solid and reliable players for us.

At this point forget about SR or averages even a helmet laying on the ground is a better batsman than Azhar, Hafeez and Malik.

They need to be dropped and humiliated.

But when I point out why Afridi was almost as good as Misbah in ODIs there's this whole brigade talking about him being a hack etc etc. How do you expect him to bat after jokers like this leave it at 99/5 after 30 overs?

You guys seem to want avg 50 SR 100. Sure, we all want world-class players, but when you don't have them in every spot, you have to understand that if you want SR these batsmen will get out playing big shots. I don't think Pakistani cricket fans have understood there's a trade-off or appreciated why Azhar Ali types can't be tolerated.

The same Babar who has looked like a tailender this whole series?

Bhai he’s gotten extremely unlucky 2/3 times. As soon as he was starting to settle in today he got run out.

Like I’ve said before it’s not a question of his ability.

Even the counter-examples. 20 (8)....

People need to understand 20 (8) is a gigantic improvement on the output of Azhar Ali, Hafeez (or even Babar Azam).

20/1 in 1.2 is clearly a mile better than 10/3 in 10 overs. Or 37/1 in 8.3 (Azhar Ali) or 54/1 in 11.3 (Babar Azam).

All top 2 teams have 2 to 3 top class players who are consistent and have the ability to go big once they are set . The innings is set up by top 3 batters and middle order batters can only thrive when they have a solid pltform . Even in this pak team once the top order batters give a platform then the lower order can explode like we did in ct final
Its just the matter of top order batsman playing with more intent and getting kiwi bowlers under pressure at the start of an innings. You dont win a lot of games after losing 2- 3 wockets in first 5 overs
