Should the ICC increase the size of the squad for future World Cups?

Another major ICC tournament coming up and yet again we have 15 man squads.

This for a tournament which, if you get to the final, lasts for 6 weeks/11 matches.

In comparison teams can take 23 players to the football World Cup, they can take 31 players to a rugby World Cup, they can take 18 players to a hockey World Cup etc.

So why are we stuck with only 15 players when it comes to cricket?

15 players should be more than enough. I guess this way teams would be forced to pick 100% fit, best and first choice players.

Look at Pakistan for example, if a squad of 16 was allowed then nobody would have cried about Malik’s inclusion.

But in other sports there are also subs involved who actually get gametime and are part of the strategy

Completely agree. At least 17 players should be allowed to improve the quality of games. Teams will have more options to replace failing players.

For the World Cup it should be 17 or 18.

15 is not enough at all

[Reporter:]

Currently all teams can have just 15 member squads. But given the long format of this World Cup and also the extensive travel up and down the country, do you think that teams should be allowed to have, say, a couple of more members in the squad?

[Pat Cummins:]

Yeah, to be honest, I mean, it's a two-month tournament. You wouldn't want to be in a position where, say, somewhere like a team like New Zealand have had some injuries and luckily, they've been able to hold someone like Kane in the squad but if suddenly you had to rule him out - I think that wouldn't be good for a cricket or a World Cup. It's not like you can poach players from other countries, so I always kind of think as many players as you need, you should be able to pick from.
