Should the India versus England 3rd Test pitch be rated poor or unfit? Rated Average

Steep bounce suggests good length balls were popping up unexpectedly/dangerously off a good length, that is not the only situation of variable bounce.

Variable means ball bouncing differently from similar length. It may be good or short or full length.

None directly off the top of my head, I don't recall anything bouncing particularly steeply/dangerously. Doesn't change the fact that variable bounce was present making the pitch undeserving of an average rating.

ICC pitch ratings are a joke. They have no basis in historical pitch data and it's more of a "qualitative" call. India will continue to prepare pitches that favour the home team just like every other team and three is nothing anyone can do about it .

Exactly, it doesn't just mean steep bounce. Like I said, no one can claim that pitch didn't show some occasional variable bounce with a straight face making the 'average' rating nonsense.

Which side was variable bounce? You say there was no steep bounce, so was it low bounce?

If this pitch was anywhere else, Indian fans would have cried themselves hoarse at the doctoring, like in the 3rd test of our last South African tour.

When the ball is in our court, we come up with 1,000 excuses.

It was a terrible deck that deserved its rating, hope the curator learned from it and let's move on.

Indians didn't complain about the pitch in SA. Rather SA wanted the match to be abandoned.
