What's new

Should the T20I format be replaced by a 25-over version and ODIs scrapped altogether?

I think it should be the new standard, no one is interested in the boring 50 overs match now days and T20 is just a bit too fast , those 5 added overs will result in same stability to the innings building feature we get to see in ODIs ,
What's your opinion?

No keep cricket as it is
Test
Odi
And t20
No more other formats and no scrapping of a format

ODI cricket is not the problem its actual the perfect balance of test and t20. League cricket is what is making people go away from ODI.

If ODI cricket is long and boring, than by that logic get rid of test cricket tooo

Scrap bilateral t20s instead and make odis 30/35 overs.

Still there is some life in odis so need to protect it as long as possible because eventually in distant future there will be just two main formats t20 cricket and test cricket.

ODI cricket is fine as it is. Just change the two new ball rule. Let there be one single ball and more day games so that there is a chance of reverse swing later in the innings. Both Nz/Irl and India/WI ODI series were very good..

Exactly spot on

The ODI world cup is most prized possession in cricket you scrap ODI, their goes ODI world cup. Yes you would still have t20 world cup, but nothing compares to winning the ODI world cup

The T20 format is a curse on the game. I have hated it since it's inception. The less I speak about my opinion on T20 leagues, the better.

T20 leagues need to become the staple of the game being played for 9 months a year. All of the T20 leagues need to have 15-20 teams and players must commit to one team per season…

The T20 Champions League needs to restart and include the champions from all leagues.

Need to scatter a few T20I and ODI friendlies throughout the year culminating n a T20 WC every 2 years and PDI WC every 4 years.

Tests needs to be scrapped…

This is the ONLY way cricket will survive - no other option….

Odis scrapped? How will Imam's brand 'parchi' take off then?

Ideally, scrap the horrible abomination that is t20 leagues, but that isn't going to happen and cricket will die a slow death.

Well you have just written what death of cricket will look like. Pretty sure a vast majority of fans will throw up at the idea of 9 month leagues.

What you are suggesting is essentially the football model. There aren't enough players in cricket to sustain that model. It's impossible imo.

We are already half way there. PSL and IPL make money for their respective boards than international cricket..

Not sure I agree that there aren’t enough players. There are PLENTY of players but franchises do not scout extensively enough for new talent. Everyone is looking out for established superstars - which is fine but not sustainable in the long run unless the franchise has a global appeal..

The bigger issue is that there are not enough T20 teams. IPL, PSL, Big Bash all need to expand for cricket to become more lucrative…

Also you mentioned that most fans will “throw up” at the idea of a 9 month league. That’s not what most casual fans think - and they are in the majority. They will happily watch a 9 month T20 league on their TV and in stadiums with their fast food, face paint and franchise merchandise cheering along their favorite T20 team.

Most casual fans cannot stand ODI cricket let alone Tests.

The “football” model is the only way cricket will survive..
