Should this be the end for M Vijay & KL Rahul in Tests if they fail to deliver in last innings?

Shaw should be fit for the MCG, so I think Vijay will be dropped unless he gets a good score in the 2nd innings. Agarwal can be called up from the A-tour in NZ and replace Rahul.

I think Pujara can do a good job as opener. He can see off the new ball and bat long periods. His style of batting doesn't work at 3 unless the pitch is bowling friendly. As an opener he will protect the middle order from the new ball and can take his time.

Should just bring in Gill and make him and Shaw open, better to invest in the now ,but I think bcci is keeping Gill a bit raw for now.

Rahul will get the full series and also NZ series due to hype but its the end of Vijay unfortunately. After world cup, Shaw-Gill will open for us in test cricket.

Kohli and Shastri are probably intent on getting their favourite Rohit Sharma back into the team, and if they absolutely have to, I suggest bringing him in as opener, and hope that he clicks like when he was promoted in the ODI team.

Gill isn't an opener AFAIK
More between Aggarwal and going back to Dhawan/Mukund

So, no harm in giving the above two some time.
Failure with future in mind is ok, failure with hopeless guys - vijay and rahul is not ok.
Looking at the way they are playing, I do not think they are even fit to bring drinks for their team mates.

Well if he's in the team don't put him in at the fulcrum position of #6.
Note that I don't want him in the team in the first place.

The odds are stacked against Vijay. last couple years he averages about 9 in the 2nd innings
Shaw will come in, even if it means at the expense of Rahul.

M Vijay's time was up after England. Shaw's injury and his county 100 gave him a farewell series here, otherwise he is done. Rahul needs some time in domestic cricket, he is only damaging his self confidence in the international arena.

This isn't Pakistan we don't pick players in tests who haven't even played a season of ranji. Also Gill isn't an opener.

Even an u19 batsman would be better than these two. At the very least he’ll be able to defend those straight deliveries!

Vijay is done for really. Whereas Rahul will get time. Personally would prefer Shaw and Gill to open.

Vijay looks and bats like a depressed guy. It could be his personal life, I don’t know. He has lost that confidence. We don’t see those beautiful off drives or extra cover drives playing the ball on the up these days, which is very sad. He’s an exceptional talent.
KL Rahul too is exceptionally talented but should be sent back to domestic cricket for fixing some flaws in his batting and getting his focus back. More than the technical flaws, it’s the lack of focus which is evident from some of his dismissals that should worry the management. It’s like when he’s at the crease his mind is somewhere else.

In my opinion, Kohli should now gamble and play Pandya instead of Vijay and Bhuvi should replace KL Rahul.
Even if Hardik and Bhuvi open ( a shot in the dark /wild experiment), they will most likely have a better opening stand than what KL & Vijay seem capable of managing based on their current form. Atleast both will contribute something with the ball if not as openers. .

Anyone's better than these 2 but gill is a future prospect putting him here half cocked helps neither him nor India. Talents need to be managed properly.

Not really Under this managment players are hardly given a rope Kohli and shastri are known for chopping and changing test to test
