Should Virat Kohli send Babar Azam a 'This too shall pass, stay strong' tweet?

I wouldn’t be surprised if Virat Kohli would have already messaged Babar personally regarding this.

To do it publicly would require Kohli to have a genuine sense of belief in Babar as a world class batter and potential great of the game which Babar felt for Kohli before posting that tweet couple of years ago. If deep down even Kohli thinks Babar doesn’t have it in him he wouldn’t make such a tweet. At the end of the day you do this for people you believe in, even as a fan.

I'd suggest Wiese or Muzarabani would be apt candidates to make this tweet. They would be good PSL buddies with Babar.

Kohli is kohinoor. Babar is patloon.

When Virat was struggling with his form, Babar sent him one.

I think Virat should return the favour?
He can? But what good will it do?

Virat Kohli is the definition of form is temporary but class is permanent? He's had lapses in form before? Like 2012 Pakistan series or his England series but he always bounced back?

He was always fit, confident, had good game awareness and had a mastery of his strokes. Losing a bit of concentration and mistiming is something that happens to almost every player.

He didn't have backfoot issues like babar, or a dad bod like babar or a loss of interest like babar, or had Strike rate phobia and proceeded tongive tweets like I'm a t20 anchorer. Nor was he afraid of Spinning wickets and begged ramiz raja for curation against Nepal haha.

Their is a huge gap in terms of fitness, Mentality and even fundamental skills. Kohli doesn't have backfoot issues, nor is lacking in stroke play or his ability to read spin.

No, VK won’t... because he knows this bad patch is not going to pass soon for Babar with his current fitness level, so better not to waste his tweet! lol

Why should Kohli acknowledge a hype job devoid of any work ethic? It will be an insult for him to acknowledge someone not even being close to his level.

What Babar wrote to VK, even though well intentioned, came across as condescending. Totally backfired on Babar big time since VK’s rise back in form corresponded with his own loss of form.

VK will do well staying away from all this. As Hitman once famously said in a presser, “Agar main Pakistan ka captain hota to salah (advice) deta, varna main kyu du?”

There is no real need but even if he did that, it won't make much difference for babar to get his form back.

Babar saw the moment as a change of guard and felt it was his duty to send a few good words to his predecessor, now that he was the newly crowned King. 👑

Fake King as it turned out, but his intentions were pure.

Sad to see so much hate for Babar.

Yes , he is nowhere near as talented or intelligent or charismatic as the average Indian/Saffer/OZ batter but that does not mean Kohli would forget his gracious unassuming nice guy nature.

Look, I would have understood if he had messaged his support to Kohli privately, but publicly making his failures official while offering sympathies doesn’t come across as gracious but rather condescending, considering Babar was then touted as successor to Kohli. The only saving grace to all this is knowing Babar’s command of English language, this was a social faux pas.

One thing - you are right that it was most likely done by his social media manager .

Secondly, we can perceive it as whatever but I'm sure Bobsy would've done it in good faith even if it was him.

I don't think Bobs is the one to be condescending to anyone.

Unnecessary taunt on Babar’s empathy for Virat. That was a magnanimous post from Babar even though he didn’t have to post. Babar is good player. His downfall is that he is not willing to work harder and harder like Virat did and still does.

We don't know if Babar explicitly chose to do it, or he just rolled along with a decision taken by his social media PR team.

This is normal now. People now tweet public remembrances for their deceased parents, share love notes for their spouses, and offer condolences—all in the span of a single day. They seamlessly shift from sorrow to romance to anger, with just a change in topic or thread. We've evolved from animals to social animals to social media animals.

Nothing to feel bad about.

Social media mismanagement or not, have you ever seen another sportsman publicly commenting on the failures of their sporting rivals even with the intention of expressing ‘empathy’? Thats in bad form.

Kohli doesn't care.

You think he is sitting there in his London mansion watching Babar Azam bat against Bangladesh in Pindi?

Imagine!

I guess so. Just feels odd to me - if you want to communicate something directly to somebody message them directly, don’t make it a media circus of it. But I guess I am not one of those whose life is an open book on social media.

This too shall pass is definitely not from Babar. His PR has done it to prop him up given the massive popularity of Kohli. This artificial image boosting of Babar who doesn't have charisma like Imran khan is cringeworthy. Making him pose like model looks totally out of place.

Contrary to popular claims, Babar Azam's struggles are not fueled by comparisons to Virat Kohli, who has openly praised Azam's talent. The actual turning point in his decline was when he reassumed the captaincy role for the second time.

Whole Zimbabwe team should post a message to Zimbabar or maybe they should tour next month it will help Zimbabar immensely.

I can't wait for Zimbabwe to tour Pakistan. It would be mouth watering contest between two equal teams.

No. Babar sent it out of good intentions and respect for Virat's game. Right now if Virat were to respond it may be construed as braggadocios or running insult into injury. Besides Babar is doing just fine, its the 10 other clowns he must share the field with who let him down.

Completely agree, I hold the opposition bowlers responsible for letting him down.

#KingKarLega

Babar Azam is like a fart in the wind to Kohli who doesn’t have the time with this rubbish, he’s probably in the gym working out or looking to elevate his game further, players like Kohli never stop learning and keep chasing greatness.

lol makes you wonder who runs their twitter and social media. Must be some paindoos who don't know what to say and when. Now it has come
back to bite him

Babar had no need to suck up to Kohli. I feel pity for this insecure generation of Pakistani cricketers. Maybe it's because i grew up watching 90s cricketers

No..Babar need a tweet from this guy..

Things changed after you messaged

That was a moment of arrogance by Babar by thinking he was on Virat's level when he had achieved nothing. Nature has a way of leveling and exposing the truth in the long run.
It's his fans who tried their absolute best to elevate him to Virat's stature.

When did he say that he is on virat level...

This arrogance was from Fan side.. Babar always rated Virat highly

Lol, to think Virat need his acknowledgement or certification to battle bad form.

His fans include T20 runs to claim he has 15000 international runs and is 4K away from Inzimam and Miandad
That's unfair on him as well because the former Pakistani players he is being compared with had their innings shared between Tests and ODI's. I'd be the first one to agree though that his troll army is simply obnoxious who try and hype their hero to the moon, a player with very little substance.

It does not make sense to make posts like this unless the person is ur close friend

Frankly that post was very immature from Babar. Tried to act over smart

No way Kohli will do anything like that. He might do such stuff for genuine friend like ABD but not for someone whom he only knows as a professional

if world consisted of fans like you, only Sachin and Virat were real deal, rest is just bunch of loosers..
Absolutely not. I know which player is worth accolades and which player is not. I know the worth and ability of a player when I see him play at least for a few years. If I were a blind fan, I would have been singing praises of Kohli in the Test format, despite him ending with 30 centuries and 7 double centuries. He is the same guy who averaged 55 odd in Tests during his peak. I was his biggest fan back then.

Nothing enrages me more than combined stats for ODI + Test + T20. It makes zero logical sense to combine these numbers, not sure why so many people keep doing it.

I saw a post about Babar's ranking. Seems like Babar touched no.1 ranking during covid. Before covid and after covid ranking was not the same. Wonder if it has anything to do with him playing a lot against C team , D team during covid?

I don’t think the “this too shall pass” from Babar had any malicious intent or it was to undermine Kohli. It was cringe, foolish and maybe out of place but don’t doubt any bad intent .

Only time Kohli will post something cringe is maybe a reel or an ad that will make him more $$$ or maybe a formal statement or video for some national event/ news that he has to go through the motions even if he genuinely means it or not.

Don’t think Babar and Virat’s paths will cross over ever again except maybe 2027 WC, that’s about it. Even that at this point is a long shot.

Kholi has performed against us but he was fortunate to play some of our worst bowling attacks since inception. No Ws, only match he played against Akhtar he didn't even face him; consistently came second best to Aamer in his prime and a young prime Shaheen. He struggled against old Ajmal as well. He feasted a lot against Sohail Khan, Harris Rauf and the likes.

Asia cup 2012, MCG 2022, WC 2015, WC 2019, WT20 2021 (lost the game but the only performer), CT 2025, Asia cup 2016, WT20 2014- pretty much covers most cricket playing continents over various eras lol 😭

Yes no bad intent but very foolish & immature

It is the same for many of our players.

No player has captivated Pakistanis like Kohli.
Someone posted his ball by ball knock in MCG on social media. Anyone who follows cricket and sees that knock has to be in awe. It was chanceless and one of the greatest run chase ever against all odds in a high stakes game. the fact it was not a one off just adds to the aura.

First of all he is ‘Kohli’ not ‘Kholi’. Second its not Kohli’s problem if Pakistan keeps on throwing mediocre bowlers at him. Also the rest of the world and Indian team has faced the same bowlers but nobody else has such a record against them.

After that rough patch 83 innings without hundred and nearing the end of his career, Virat Kohli has still achieved and holds some exceptional records:
  1. Most runs in a single edition of the ODI World Cup — the first player ever to score more than 700 runs in a single World Cup season (765 runs and 3 centuries, including the semifinal).
  2. MOM in the Champions Trophy semifinal against Australia (84 runs).
  3. Highest run-scorer in the 2022–23 T20 World Cup.
  4. MOM in the 2014 T20 World Cup final.

Let’s see how much Babar manages to achieve, I bet he won’t even reach 20% of what’s listed above.
According to his fans, his peak will come at 34… let’s see about that. :)

Babar will be out of this bad patch with just one good innings and he can do it without Kohli's tweet.
