Shubman is the next big thing for India. Babar will seem like a mediocre accumulator compared to him in a few years. Shubman will play many impactful innings in all three formats.

Another valuable knock but he looks dodgy at the start of his innings. Plenty of false strokes. Rode his luck today.

I'd still back him to succeed in tests in India and AUS/NZ but success in ENG and SAf would require some work.

A lot of work on not playing with just hands. Or he will end up like Sehwag. A very good enforcer but not an all weather batter.

In terms of average these guys are outstanding Gill/Rohit sharma second only in terms of average among those who have added 1000 runs.

Rohit sharma

Tbf neither are actually no 1.

Rohit, Kohli, Quinton, are currently superior to these 2.

Ps: I named 3 but I can name more

Yea.ICC ranking windows is slightly bigger. If we strictly talk about world cup these guys will come. If we talk about 2023 it is Gill. This is Gill's year. Gill came into the world cup on the back of a century and 74 against Australia in bilateral. Dengue screwed him over. Even now he doesn't look fully fit. Early this year he batted almost entire 50 overs that too in summer without breaking sweat. Now he cramped after 20 odd overs. But even during his short stay he proved why he was rated as an under-19 batsman in 2018. why he is rated as a great star.

Gill has already surpassed Babar and took over that number 1 spot from him in ODIs. Babar has had a poor tournament as far as his standards are set.

Shubman rocked in the test series vs Australia in Australia. Let's see how Babar fares. Will be a good reference point

Both Gill and Babar were average in this World Cup.

Based on how things have gone, neither should be the #1 batter after this WC.

?

Babar did score an accomplished ton against AUS at Gabba. He had a productive series the last time he toured there so it's not like we do not know what he's capable of.

This is an incorrect take.

Babar had an average campaign given he was coming as number 1 and an experienced batsman.

Gill had form behind him but he's still new to ODI cricket and this was his first WC and scored a valuable knock in semis and also reeled off some good knocks in league phase after a debilitating bout of dengue.

Gill therefore has had an above average to good WC so far and if he performs in final, it'd be an excellent campaign for him.

Think the train's left for this discussion.

All over now.

Babar needs to start from scratch.

Kohli scored 1 century in his first tour and then 4 centuries( I think 700 runs plus in 4 matches) in his second tour. Similarly Babar has to better his first tour and score atleast 500 runs.Same goes for Gill.

Yes but if you count all of 2023 which I cludes this cup, quinton has 4 centuries alone this year, kohli 3

Gill was number one by the end of the World Cup 2023 campaign and has not played since losing his ranking, which helped Babar Azam reclaim the top spot again as a Number 1 ODI Batsman.
