Shubman Gill versus Abdullah Shafique

Gill is scoring too fast while Dhawan playing smartly, not taking risk as he knows a 70 of 80 will count more than a 40 of 28 in India.

If I had a penny for every time an Indian poster was behind hurt just because a Pakistani player was praised by anyone, I mean anyone, not just a poster here....I would be a billionaire by now. As soon as any praise happens here, not just the real but even the 'Closeted Indian' fans start raising hue and cry as if someone just shot them.

Not to say, Pak fans don't take joy from Indian failures but Pak fans in general will give high praise to many Indian players (minus Teenda, he is our love) and even accept them as superior players to most Pak players...but finding even a single Indian behaving that way is harder to come across than winning the lottery (it seems):virat

Indians are extremely nationalistic, visit any online forum and it's quite apparent. They can't stand not being in the spotlight lol

I know you said it sarcastically but Gill indeed BOSSED the series. His ODI avg is now 50 albeit in handful of games. He just need to sort out his test match avg by batting in the middle order. Guy is pure class and one of the most talented batsman we have produced since KL Rahul. Hope he wont ruin his talent like Rahul did (somewhat).

I always believed KL was 50+ avg test batsman but he didnt justify his potential. Hopefully that won't be the case for Gill.

And lol @ people mocking him in this thread saying it will be another Kohli vs Akmal kinda comparison. How can you not see the obvious class? Its so evident and anyone with bit of a cricket sense can see it.

Shafique is ahead now. Looking at the recent history of Indian and Pakistani batsmen, Shafique will continue to do well whereas Indian batsmen adjust there technique to play more aggressive game due to IPL. I personally feel Gill has a higher potential, but he seems to have taken to his own hype. He seems to play good short innings and get out.. not yet good enough
 
As I said before, Gill is another hack like Rahul. He should stick to bullying third rate West Indies team in LOIs.
 
I take it back. Shafique is wildly overrated. Infact he is an average talent. Gill is a lot better.

What were you expecting him to do? Score back to back, almost impossible, fourth innings centuries? You do know that highest is 5 by Younis over a 20 year career.

Neither of the two are hacks. Rahul has been a mental midget though.

Gill is a special talent but he will have its ups and down in initial part of the career and after a few years should become consistent enough to dominate all formats.

Gill's brilliant 130 saved India today. He's is sure going to win many more accolades for Team India in near future.
 
He was touted to be next Kohli. Underperformed thus far. Today we could see him bat a lot like Kohli. Mostly ground shots. Always in control. Also lovely to watch.
 
I hope both of these guys end up with successful careers. I can't really decide who is ahead right now. Both of them have had ups and downs in their careers so far.
 
Well played Gill. Have always been his fan.

However, sterner tests await him provided he is played on consistent basis by Rohit in ODIs from now on.
 
Very average performances from Gill so far in his career. The only highpoint of his career so far is his inns vs Aus in Brisbane but what a innings that was.

Maybe he need to come 1-down or 2-down. I don't think Gill can be a successful opener for India.

He is not a opening batsman. For some reason they keep sending him there. Far too many soft dismissals.
 
There is no way Shafique is a better white ball cricketer than Gill
 
This is going to embarrassing one. Gill is incredible talent. Shafique has nothing to offer other than fake technique.
 
Even if Shafique opens the ODI batting for Pakistan

He will never score a double ton even on the roads of Karachi or Lahore. He doesn’t have the cojones for it!

Indian bowlers are miles better than Pakistan in Tests (bumrah siraj ashwin jadeja shami)
Also Pak T20 batsmen till 2015 were better than Indian batsmen

There is a stark difference in the attitude of our meek cricketers and India’s confident up and coming ones. Our boys are content on doing the bare minimum, to be able to stay in the team. That’s what someone like Abdullah Shafique wants to do.

There is a good enough sample size to compare both now, and frankly this thread looks like as big a joke as the Kohli v Umar Akmal thread lol.
 
He is the only young Indian batter who I can say is more talented than Bobby Azam himself. You can't praise anyone higher than that.
 
Another laughable comparison. Pakistani fans will never learn. You simply don’t compare Pakistani & Indian batsmen. The latter are miles ahead in terms of talent, skill, temperament, game awareness etc.

The best Pakistani batsman is probably on par with the 10th best Indian batsman.

Gill was always light years ahead of Shafique. Now these deluded fans will compare Saim Ayub with Ishan Kishan.
 
Sorry mate, I don't find, today's Pakistan bowlers are in the same league. It was true in past generations, not now. You guys have faster bowlers, but not so effective. If not, India's test credential would not have been much higher than that of Pakistanis. In T20, yes ; you have better variety and quality, but not in the longer format.

TBF he is that mould of batsman like Babar, Kohli...but Babar never showed that he has a monster gear to his batting, like the ability to clear 6x6 against a 145kmh|+ bowler once fully set. Gill and Kohli have shown they can

We need a 140+ strike rate player at the opening position if we want to compete with England. We need to separate out ODI team from our T20I team. I don't think traditional batsmen like Gill should be in our T20I team unless he plays in an attacking mode from ball one.

No. But maybe your openers work just fine for you.

India needs to change their approach in T20Is rather than be stuck in their outdated approach, or else they're going to be left behind.

Kohli & Gill have the ability to score 100+ runs over a period of 50 balls against any bowling attack. Babar does not.

This is why it is fine if they operate at 85-90 most of the time because they can flick the switch at any moment.

Peak Rohit was obviously unbelievable at switching gears. He was 50 off 72 when he scored 264.

From Pakistan, in recent times, Fakhar & Hafeez were the best at changing gears but they had consistency issues especially Hafeez.

Yeah I dont recall a single time when Babar absolutely murdered a proper bowling attack with proper intent during any phase in his innings

This is why the 97 scored by Tendulkar against Pakistan in the 2003 world cup alone supersedes all of Babar's international runs up to this point. That one innings alone was a masterclass which we will never see Babar replicate I recon.

Have you seen the roads in Pakistan and the one ground where they play their List A games? It’s a local club standard ground. What’s stopping ‘immensely talented’ Pak players to not rack up 170+ scores on them?
 
Gill is comfortably better than Babar. What is the point of comparing him to Shafique who is comfortably below Babar?

There are probably 50 better batsmen than Shafique in India.

Lol. Babar scored an international century on 49 balls while other two didn't. Stop deluding yourself in Babar's hate. It is enough. He is the captain of the ICC Odi Team of the year for the 2nd year straight.

Are you referring to that South African attack that cannot even be called their reserve attack? I’m sure even their family members probably don’t know they have represented South Africa.

What other two are you referring to? Sharma & Gill?

Sharma has a 35 ball hundred in T20Is. Gill is just starting but his ceiling is way higher than Babar’s & 10 years down the line, Gill vs Babar comparison would even embarrass Babar’s family.

He had injuries in between. I don't mind Gill's failures in India. We have so many guys who can score in India. As long as he improves overseas that is fine. It is a matter of time before he starts scoring in India.

No question Gill is a good player and will do well in conditions were he can play on the backfoot.

There was a reason for that. He is a slow starter. Now he is converting his starts so he is able to finish big. Day he doesn't finish his score will look bad. Similar to Rohit's tempo. He still has room to improve. But i honestly don't care if he sucks in T20. This is not really a format where you true skills can be tested.
