Big hitting is rightly valued in modern T20I. I felt it would be interesting to see how our current/recent players and forum favorites fare. I did 2 analyses - one is overall 6s per innings and second is 6s per innings vs SENAI. I will not draw any conclusions but just leave it here for your feedback:

So Saim Ayub with such a poor stat is deemed fit for T20I and Babar's stats are even more embarrassing

Can you do sixes every how many balls instead of per innings, and also add a table for non intl like leagues perhaps. I dont think per innings matters as much.

Intent is not about hitting sixes and fours, it’s about strike rotation aswell which is where our batsmen including Babar and Rizwan get stuck.

These random stats are worthless, the one stat that explains our plight is the amount of attacking shots we attempt successfully and our dot ball percentage. Combined together, those stats make for pitiful reading and is the sole reason why we suck.

Great point. I think that is the common issue for all our batsmen the accumulator and the attacking intent ones. They need to improve on 1s 2s. Getting some runs off good balls and bowlers is equally important to smashing one boundary. You may have smashed Bumra for a 6, but played 4 dot balls after it, which doesn't add up at the end.

Also, this is yet another reason why we cannot maintain or sustain a good run rate or start. Like in the recent games against India.getting 80 to 90 in 10 overs but then just halting.

This is a useless stat - what does 6 per inning tell you? If he plays 50 balls in an innings and hits a 6, that tells you nothing. It’s what he does with the other 49 is what matters. He probably plays 34 dot balls in them.

I think six per inning becomes unfair to many batters... Need to see the number of balls also..

It's a block or slog mentality.

Look at Pakistan's batting. They have an average RPO of 8.12 from 2020-2025 onwards. That leads them to have an expected score of 160-165.

It's not so much the ability of hitting the boundaries. I'm sure that Pakistan can a 2 boundaries over the space of 3 overs (On an average). The point is what they do to show intent when it comes to rotating the strike. That's what matters. The ability to rotate strike differentiates teams which average 160 in 20 overs with teams averaging 180+ in 20 overs.

And Pakistan's stats would look more worse if I were to remove Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Ireland , Zimbabwe from the list. But since they are test playing nations, A lot of teams would get their stats twisted as well if the lesser teams were moved.

Point remains that an Australia plays 77 out of their 87 t20 matches against better opposition.
India plays 96 out of their 121 t20 matches against better opposition
England plays 88 out of their 96 matches against better opposition

Pakistan play 81 matches out of 120 against better opposition. Their results against lesser opposition mask their deficiencies in T20 and allow their PR to peddle the line that they are performing well in T20s. Aside from SL, There's not been any other team which has played so many matches against minnows. This stops Pakistan from addressing the deficiencies in their game because any outrage when they do lose against the bigger teams is quickly masked by their wins against the minnow teams.

Unreliability is very high for Pakistan's batting lineup as the following stat shows. If they go for shots, they are more likely to get out. PRoper stroke players, range hitters are likely to have higher average with attacking shots. Team with hacks are likely to have lower average. This is where they need someone to hold the innings together. Ideally he should be able to accelerate as well. OTher teams may not need this role. But Pakistan certainly needs given the collapse prone line up they have.

Also shows that they are easy to set fields to. It's easier to set fields when the batsmen don't have too many shots in their armory.

Risks taken only to play an attacking shot which effectively finds a fielder and the percentage chances of getting out is much more with those risks too.

Saw the early part of Pakistan's innings. High risk low reward shots and the ball barely trickled over the boundary ropes

This thread and it’s discussions will fly over the heads of most our national team players.

Things are that bad.
