I often feel like the more famous you get, the more out of touch you get with the public's sentiment regarding controversial topics. Manjrekar has reinforced my belief.

Mumbai is great in many ways, but who is arguing about Colombo and the like being cleaner?

Mumbai needs more than a scrub in fact - Manjrekar is being kind.

Nothing wrong with what Sanjay said. Likewise; Karachi needs a good scrub; if not a hamam. Too many sensitive people; these are the same people who litter and would pee on road side.

Embrace the self hate. Don't get defensive over the indefensible, nothing good ever comes of that. I would not mind in the slightest if someone had a go at Peshawar (hometown number 1) for being a dump or Islamabad (hometown number 2) for looking like Lahore, which is another dump.

Apparently he's being attacked on Twitter for that

No comparison of any Indian cities with Colombo.

All Indian cities are over populated and polluted to the core and the less said about the infrastructure and trash the better.

Sanjay is right about Mumbai being dirty. Seen pictures of real Mumbai and it is a dump. Sanjay was actually pretty mild there. Nothing to get angry about his tweet.

Not offended at all. Bombay with its overcrowding and strapped municipal facilities is in a constant struggle to maintain itself.

Things have improved a lot in the last 10-15 years, but its nowhere near where it needs to be. Major areas and intersections are pretty good. But outside of that, its always a challenge.

In fact, I'm in favor of more public shaming - it would be a way to put some pressure on the authorities to prioritize regular cleaning etc. I don't think budget is that big an issue anymore, with so many taxes being collected. You buy anything in India, and there is a "Swacch Bharat" tax tacked on. But the Bombay authorities need to be held accountable more. Lot more can be done. And should be done. Bombay and its people deserve better.

Haha that’s no way to judge.. Twitter has plenty of velle log and some paid media cells whose job is to attack such tweets..

Most Indian cities are dump, the people blasting him themselves throw trash on the road.. Too much population unless the population can be evenly distributed cities would continue to be dump..

Don't know why these people cannot praise others without putting down india. jis thali mein khatey hain ussi mein chhed kartey hain.

Aur agar thali gundi ho tou osmein khanay se pehlay dho lehtay hain

South Asian cities are very dirty... it is a trend across the board. Obviously you have outliers like Isloo or Chandigarh

But But Population is our strength. This has been parroted since the says of Rajiv Gandhi till Modi.

No amount of money your pour into cities, no amount of infra you build, it still cannot sustain such huge populations. Every day thousands of people from poor villagers from all over the country flock to Mumbai to eek out a living. They will destroy whatever is being spent on Mumbai to make it look good.

I see the same in Hyderabad too. So many dilapidated huts on the road side. You know these people are poor villagers and their dozens of kids who came from the rest of Telengana and even as as from Bihar, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh. Most have no education and they try to sell some pottery stuff, art work all the while living on dirty roads with no access to drinking water and restrooms. The roads are everything to them.

Its hopeless situation. Whatever happened to building Smart cities all over India.

135 crores and counting. In a decade, we will be 150 crores. Cannot imagine the situation.

Mumbai is one city that makes other South Asian cities look greener and cleaner. If it wasn't for money, I wouldn't be visiting it.. EVER.

Actually the story goes like this RSS themselves realised we need to control our population and in the background they met with Sanjay Gandhi and he agreed.. He tried to push for population control but we all know what happened next... Today RSS are in power themselves however they don’t give two hoots about population control because they know if they take any major step for population control their would be a massive public backlash.. No one wants to risk losing power for betterment of the country in future..

The smart city concept is going on to be honest.. It will take time but unless we control our population smart cities won’t help much..

It is how it is I think people are ok to live like this tbh, better standard of life is nowhere in anyone’s list of things to ask from the government.. So they/we get what they ask for/deserve.

Very depressing to think about the situation in India. People are every where. Houses are built so close to each other. Apartments are mushrooming everywhere. No place to play for kids. The barking of street dogs and noise of vehicles reverberates in your ears even at night time.
Day time is even worse. The pollution, the dust, people everywhere on the streets...

How did we end up in such a mess. 39 crores in 1947 to 135 in 2017. Who should take the blame? Nobody had the foresight to see this population menace? Even my 2nd grade school teacher back in 80's once said that our population is 85 crores and it needs to be curbed. Otherwise, India will be in deep trouble.
We added another 50 crores since then. Simply amazing.

Did you just return from abroad? Every time I come back from abroad I feel like you do for a few weeks before I become normal and accept this is life here and this is how people of our country wanna live..

It is how it is my friend and the majority are ok with it.. For them reservations, caste, religion, what is being shown in a frigging movie etc are more important issues than having a better standard of living.. So don’t think too much you will only end up getting frustrated, chill out and take a break from TP section here for a couple of days..

I live abroad, but I do travel to India frequently. Still an Indian citizen and most of my family is in India.

Every time I visit, it gets even more depressing. I usually travel to Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai (sometimes). 3 of the dirtiest places I could think of visiting.

I once had the unfortunate expereince of visiting Delhi and Uttar Pradesh a few years ago. I could not wait to return back to South. I have no idea how people can even live in Northern part of the country. Its unlivable. Hats off to everyone that are still living there.

Check the below link detailing the dirtiest cities in the world. It is full of pakistani & indian cities.

Its a shame really but cleanliness has never been our folks priority and they don't even think about this stuff for 10 seconds. Hence the lack of action from our governments regarding this.

The same Indians and Pakistanis when they move to western countries or even middle east do not dare litter or throw their garbage wherever they feel like, but in their own countries they are shehansha to do as they please.

.

I grew up in Hyderabad and visit it twice a year at least.
It may not compare with cities abroad, but Hyderabad is still a relatively clean and slum free city by Indian standards. While garbage was a problem till a few years ago, the GHMC has done a remarkable job in cleaning the city up.

The dilapidated huts are seen in very few places and are mostly made by temporary migrants who come to the city to sell pottery and stuff. They are not permanent slums like those you see in Mumbai.

The one big problem that Hyderabad is facing is the near complete elimination of greenery. All the old bungalows with huge trees are now gone, and have been replaced by ugly high rises.

Absolutely true.
