So why wasn't Junaid Khan picked earlier?

Why was Junaid Khan not picked for the initial games? Sarfaraz Ahmed and/or Mickey Arthur to blame?

Must have been a no-brainer to pick Junaid Khan atleast when Usman Shinwari was failing?

Who is to blame for his non-selection?
 
Shinwari: in his last UAE game got tremendous seam movement and hadn’t done anything wrong since.

Shaheen: was impressive in Zimbabwe.

Amir: This is the big question. He was largely mediocore since the CT but maybe Mickey thought his recent Test format was a sign of things to come.

Anyways, having four Left-Arm-Seamers for a tournament in the UAE in September was not a great idea.

Interesting that he was only picked today after being ignored for the Asia Cup thus far.

I simply don't get why he was ignored throughout the tournament when other bowlers were struggling.

Was it simply down to the fact that the skipper was reluctant to drop Mohammad Amir or Usman Shinwari for Junaid?

I also hear that Azhar Mahmood was in favour of selecting Junaid earlier in the tournament.

Lol Mamoon will best answer the question. I am puzzled as to why Junaid Khan completely fell out of favor with the team management and selectors in the first place? He was our pace spearhead from 2011 to 2014.

He suffered a knee injury in October 2014 and apparently Waqar and Moin Khan were unhappy with his discipline. He came back in 2015 after knee surgery and he struggled with his form and fitness in his come back series against Bangladesh but after was completely discarded as if he didn't exist.

Should a senior cricketer not be given confidence and backing by the team management and selectors? Who should be held responsible for mismanaging players?
 
Amir and Shinwari play for the Karachi Kings.

Mickey Arthur must have a soft spot for these guys based on his interactions with them.
 
I feel but don't agree that they didn't select him cuz of our weak batting line up since Amir can bat better than him
 
Whenever he is picked he has performed but is usually the first one to be dropped. Don't be surprised if he benched again in Pakistan's next ODI.... Perhaps if he had more glamour about him or was making weird YouTube videos about his hairstyle then he might have more luck getting selected.
 
We are obsessed with Amir our golden boy. Most Pakistanis feel he must be in the team as does the coach.

No he belongs to small province.You should be from particular province to be super star.

Your question is baised. Why go after Shinwari? It should have been a no-brainer to pick Junaid after Amir's terrible performance in the Zimbabwe series and the initial Asia cup matches. We kept on waiting for the "big stage" for him to perform. Which never came.
 
In a 7 year career he has only played 90 odd games meaning he only plays about 13 matches a year. I'd hazard a guess its because the more he bowls the higher the chances of the umpires calling him from throwing.

The first thing you guys from "small" provinces look at is some kind of a regional bias when especially in this case the reality is that fans and experts alike have hyped and special love for Amir due to some performance in some match back in 2010. If the province is the deciding factor then how come the likes of Rahat Ali and Wahab Riaz are dropped while Amir is persisted with?

It always stings me to see people bringimg in provinces instead of keeping it rational. As if the coach and captain both come from the particular province and have special love for it. Go and ask them why they keep showing special treatment to Amir, perhaps there is a third person from a particular province who is forcing them to select him over Junaid. I guess Shinwari was preferred over Junaid in the past since he comes from a particular province too.

Even in this tournament Amir was dropped twice and nobody from a particular province stood up and caused an uproar.
 
Inzi wanted Junaid to play the Super 4 match against India but Mickey insisted on playing his beloved Amir

Got more to do with potential and pace. Both always been highly rated. Mickey believes in them but they have been off colour lately.
 
Why was Imran Khan Jr discarded? He had the best record out of all the pacers and had troubled Australia and New Zealand in the UAE in 2014 and he has won a test match against Sri Lanka in 2015. But Mickey Arthur feels he is a trundler who is not worth persisting with.

Can't have a coach who is influencing decisions for the betterment of the team based on his own likes and dislikes.
 
Junaid Khan has been the best bowler for us in UAE. It's sad he is so underrated, I hope this gives him confidence and he gains 2012 form.
 
Wish he was selected for India so Dhawan and Rohit would have shown he isnt the answer.

Now will ride on Bangladesh 4 wickets.

Exactly. Don't know what happened to Imran Khan Jr. after that great run in '14-'15. Despite his own preferences he should have seen that two specialist spinners was the way to go in the UAE. Don't get why he persisted with Amir after that first India match and didn't play Junaid in the second one.

Poor guys like Rumman Raees and Junaid Khan perform and get dropped after 2 matches. Amir takes a tailender wicket and he’s secured for the next 10 games

Inzi’s job is to select the best possible players for the team and there his job stops. Which players are in final elev is none of his bussiness.

It is the job of team management to pick the right combination and they have failed and they should take the full responsibility. Sarfraz blamed his own performance and captaincy as well and Mickey should also do that if he hasn’t done it already.

Even with the squad of 16, he makes the final decision after consulting the coach and captain. According to sources he wanted to select Hafeez but Micky Arthur was against it. Also Inzi is the one who demanded that Junaid Khan be selected for the match today.

Well, it that is true, then this is totally wrong.

But since he is selecting the match squad he should come out and accept his failure. After 2007 this is the worsr tournament I have seen from a Pakistani perspective.

He was picked for New Zealand late 2017 but developed a stress fracture. This is the problem with Pakistan cricket. Lots of potential bowlers on the domestic scene and then few good enough for t20 but international test standard there was only really amir/junaid. Both have been worked into the ground whilst the others are slow to step up.

What you really need is 5/6 fast bowlers that are rotated so they get a chance to recover and get more polished with their skills
 
Junaid always gets mistreated. He deserves to be a regular ahead of Amir. Also I don’t agree with dropping Shinwari, his a match winning bowler and should be preferred over the likes of Amir and Rahat Ali.
 
I don't recall Amir really crushing India like Junaid did to us in "Anne do" series. Only time Amir delivered was in CT final, on a rarest of rarest day where Pak batsman scored 340 runs. I have something to say to Pak management, to the likes of Waqar, Inzi, Moin, Micky Arthur etc and other "experts" who fulfill their personal agendas once they get the powerful position.

Sorry to say but dropping Hafeez from the team is Inzi bhai's attempt to establish his nephew's cricketing career. I have nothing against Inam but Hafeez would have better suited the team combination playing in UAE. Playing 1 spinner in UAE doesn't make sense. Inam scored 80 runs yesterday but all he did was to nudge the ball to third man and accumulate. He is not a natural strokeplayer and i only see him struggling ahead.
 
This thread showed Pakistanis emotional and delusional side. Junaid has taken 4 wickets against BD, not India or ENG...Pakistan fundamental problem is too many matches against minnows and then drive everything from it...

Fans now want Junaid, Hafeez, Azhar back, I am baffled how is that an improvement??

If Amir is not performing, you can drop him or do what you like but that will not give you a better bowler, only Afridi I see is a real deal, rest are same run of the mill...Amir is disappointing but that does not makes me excited about second tier, they were never that good...

Same way Fakhar failed but that does not make me go back to Hafeez or Azhar, they were never good enough anyway...

This Asia Cup has came at every wrong time and done lot of damage, all WC palns are ruined...Now we will go back to much worse team for WC, sane old Misbah model.
 
He has zero skills with ball.He is simply not good enough.This is going to hurt in long run.A trundler of highest level.
 
He's not regular because he is injury prone and looks pretty fragile. This is why I'm sure [MENTION=131701]Mamoon[/MENTION] yesterday was saying him performing for Pakistan is bad for the team in the long run.

With his lack of pace he will get exposed on faster wickets against top teams as well. He's a bench player and that's it.

Correct.

Junaid Khan is a trash bowler, military medium with hardly any skill to move the ball.

One off minnow performances are what holding Pakistan back from building a good team.

Shinwari and Junaid are cut from the same cloth. Both poor bowlers.

Then who is not a trash bowler according to you? Amir? who cannot move the ball a millimeter outside england. military medium hasan ali? Wahab?

He got 100 wickets in 69 odi matches against every opposition, not bangladesh He was one of the best bowlers in champions trophy last year and played a huge rule. If that is a trash bowler, then every pak bowler since last 5 years is below trash

Junaid has bowled most of his test career on flat roads in uae and sri lanka and still got 5-wicket hauls. He has not even toured in safrica, england or aus+ nz. I am sure he will outperform all pak bowlers if he tours in these seaming conditions
