Disclaimer: This thread is NOT about bashing Pakistan and it's social/domestic and internal problems.
The intent is that we are going to try to discuss the issues and present our solutions.
If you identify an issue, I expect you to discuss a possible solution as well.
Some of our social/domestic problems may also relate to India. So Indian members are also welcome to participate. We may have a difference of opinion on political/social/religious matters but may be we can also learn a thing or two from each other?
So starting with the basic rule of engineering, you must identify the problem, isolate it, find the root cause and fix it.
If we start with identifying the problems, there are many that we can talk about but highlighting a few major ones will help keep the discussion and effort, focused on what matters the most.
If I have to identify the two basic and major problems (not the root causes) then these two will be the ones.
1 - Corruption.
2 - Explosive population.
These two then branch out to many other issues, like drying up resources, injustice, lack of awareness, lawlessness, child abuse, women abuse, arrogance, ignorance, and the biggest of the biggest, GREED.
Greed is the major cause of suffering of entire humanity.
So, the first issue: Corruption.
What is it that makes a third world country, a third world country? CORRUPTION.
We all already know that there is rampant corruption everywhere in Pakistan.
What's the root cause?
We have to go back a little in our history to find out.
After the creation of Pakistan, unlike India, we got very unlucky when Quaid died only after a year.
So we NEVER had a fatherly figure that we could've looked up to.
And hence, this new born nation was brought up like a "lawaaris" orphan.
Most of whoever came into power after Quaid, failed to build the character of this nation.
Their politics was all about power, selfishness and greed.
There was no real honesty to build a good moral character of this nation.
Remember, this is the key of the keywords, "Character Building".
The effect of a dishonest, selfish and power hungry leadership through out the history of Pakistan, trickled down and slowly, the entire nation had this factor of dishonesty and corruption start running into it's blood.
And here is the root cause of where we at today.
Our society, and our school system, whether religious or western, does NOT do any "Character building".
We have totally and absolutely lost the concept of "PURPOSE" of education.
Whether you are a teacher or a parent or social atmosphere in Pakistan, the understanding of sending the kids to schools is one and only thing, "Get a degree so that you could find a good job, a good rishta and have some status in the society.
We fail to realize that these are the BENEFITS of education.
So what's the PURPOSE of Education?
Trust me, hardly ANYONE knows n Pakistan. We ALL have forgotten it.
Before reading further, take a quick pause here and ask if yourself if you know the purpose of getting education? I am almost sure, the best you may have a vague idea but either you don't know it or it's not crystal clear to you.

This is our dilemma. We have forgotten it or we never knew the purpose of education.
The purpose of education is only and only one. That you live the life of honesty.
And we don't teach this to our kids in schools or in Madrassas and rarely at homes.
When kids are enrolled into schools, their entire focus and goal is to memorize (ratta maari) the out dated text books, and pass the exams and get a degree. This goes all the way to Master, PhD level, and CSS and CSP exams.
So when such a student joins the work force where he never had any character building, he has no shame, and there is no mental barrier that should stop him from taking bribes and doing the injustice, and become part of this viscous corruption cycle.
And hence we notice something very strange.
The more we educate, the more corrupt we produce.
Kunki zameer maar deyti aisee taleem.
A few years ago, I saw a cartoon where a line of kids were entering into a school building, and a line of donkeys were coming out of the exit.
This, IMO, was a classical example of Pakistani education system. No character building, no focus on living the life of honesty.
A third grade Jr. school kick out street vendor who weighs his merchandize with honesty is better educated than a PhD holder who takes bribe and does injustice to his responsibilities in a high rise office building.
This is the gist of it but we don't understand it.
To us, the more educated is the one who has a degree and has a lot of wealth (regardless of how he has earned it).
The second leg is our Madrassa education.
Mostly, kids are enrolled into Madrassa by their parents for two main reasons.
A. The kid will get two hot meals a day that the parents cannot afford.
B. Scientific Education is evil, so we want the kid take the "righteous path".
What generally happens in Madrassas?
Same as what happens in the schools.
Kids are focused in memorize Quran (without knowing the meaning) or memorize the hadeeth and alim books to pass the exam and become Alims so that they can find work. Which is usually becoming an imam of a local Masjid. This ensures their daal roti.
Here is the same problem again. There is NO focus on character building of the kids in the Islamic madrassas.
The Islam these kids are taught, which they in turn teach to others, is all about stuff that does NOT address the character building. LIVING THE LIFE OF HONESTY in your day to day matters. Diyaanut daari ki zinadagi.
A good indicator will be, take a look at Islamic Bayans rendered by various of these "sanad yaafta Alims" on Youtube, and see the topics.
It will be mostly like this,
1 - Aurat ki sharam gah ka pani haram ya halal?
2 - Azaan k waqt bathroom jana halal ya haram?
3 - Dua Qanoot sey pehlay Bismillah parhayn ya na parhayn
4 - Daarhi kitnee lambi ho
5 - Namaaz mein haath kahaan rakhayn
6 - Shalwaar takhno sey auper ya neechay
7 - Pants mein namaaz parhna jaiz ya na jaiz
8 - Nail polish na utaarney pe wazoo hota hai ya nahi
9 - Falana wazeefa parhnay sey saaray gunnah maaf
10 - Falana wird parhney say itnaa sawaab aur jannat mein itnay mehul.
11 - Gustaakh-e-rasool (Saw) ki sazaa mout
12 - (Khud Musalmaan bano ya na bano lekin) Poori duniya ko Muslim banaaney ka junoor sar pe sawaar rakho.
Notice: These Mullahs will NEVER tell the people or kids in the madrass about the basic lessons from the example of the life of our prophet (saw). A few of these are what?
1 - Honesty in day to dealing with people. (Saadiq and Ameen).
2 - Be Merciful
3 - Be Patience
4 - Be Generous
5 - Practice and keep Cleanliness
6 - Have exemplary manners of how to use your tongue. (akhlaaq)
So what happens? When the madrassa kids graduate, this is the Islam (Item 1 to 12 above) is what they have learned and this is the Islam they teach to general public.
What does the general public do in turn? They have long beards, they have their shalwaar's above the ankle, they have a miswaak sticking out their pockets and they have tasbeehs in their hands - but - many of these are just equally corrupt in taking bribes and doing injustice to others at their work place.
The eid milaad jaloos passes through the streets that are loaded with trash, kachra, gandagi, and ghalaazut but the Ashiqaan-e-rasool (saw) never give it a thought that as per hadeeth, "Cleanliness is half emaan".
They are unable to think that "Why not keep our streets and our communities and our cities clean in the love of our prophet (saw) and his hadeeth, yet they are ready to chop the head off anyone who is accused of blasphemy?
well, this is the Islam that has been taught to them.
And the result? We become one the biggest munafiqs in the Islamic ummah.
Does it surprise you that Pakistan is world #2 in Hajj attendance but on the scale of Honesty, we rank #120.
So why this monster of corruption, injustice and cruelty (Zulm), impatience, lack of cleanliness, extreme hypocrisy and munafiqat are common in our public?
I mean, just think about it, HOW IN THE WORLD is it even possible to have pedophiles in our Madrassa alims community?
Because the character is not build by the teachers in the school, molvis at the madrassas, parents at home and the society that they were brought up in.
So the root cause of corruption is: we have lost the ability to build characters at an individual level, and hence, as a nation we have lost our character.
How to fix this?
My younger one goes to a karate school here in the United States (A supposedly kaafir country that has many problems of it's own), and for the last few years I hear something the karate teacher repeatedly teaches the kids and asks them to say it outload before during and after every class.
This is the slogan where he asks.
"What is integrity?"
And the entire class replies back loudly, "To do the right thing even when no one is watching."
This slogan has become part of the character of the kids.
The kid unwraps a candy and I see that he disposes the wrapper properly in a trash can. He follows the rules outside the home.
I tried to reward him once with $100 for something that he did good. Guess what this 10 years old asks me? How much of a tax do I owe to the govt from this $100?
We need to revisit our teaching system, our education system and our academic/religious books in Pakistan.
Our scholastic and Religious education MUST build the character of kids, at home, at schools, and at Madrassas, so that we move towards creating a society that also builds good moral characters.
The need is not just to increase the literacy rate but to also, and more importantly educate the kids with the right knowledge.
If this happens, the corruption could drastically go down when the next generation takes over.
We also MUST MUST AND MUST need to round up and get rid of this breed of Mullahs whose total Islamic focus is along the lines of items 1-12 as above. Sometimes I feel as if these munafiqs are paid to keep the public astray from the true Islamic message. And just keep them busy in aurat ki sharam gah ka pani.
If we don't get rid this breed of Mullah, jahaalut won't end.
And mind you, I am not saying All Alims are bad. Indeed there is a very minor community of Islamic Scholars who are genuine.
But when it comes to Islamic education,
We MUST start teaching our kids that there are TWO basic Islamic obligations.
1. Pray five times salah with good focus.
2 - LIVE THE LIFE OF HONESTY in your day to day matters. Be merciful, be generous, practice patience, practice cleanliness and make the appropriate use of your tongue
This should be the focus of all religious sermons. This should be religious atmosphere in our country.
Nothing else is needed, and nothing else matters.
All these harri pagri, and white pagri, and deobandi and salafi, braveli, shafi and kafi, and sunni and shia etc is ALL bovine excrement.
We don't need any of this.
If we want to wear the badge of Islam on our sleeves then we must do these two things. Pray 5 times salah, live the life of honesty in your day to day matters. This is what Islam is all about.
If you do these two things, you are done. No need to prove your "Musalmaniyet" to anyone and no need to go on the granular level of having a spec of nail polish on your nail makes a mess of your wazzu.
Second problem is Explosive Population.
The major adverse effect of this is drying up the resources.
There is a state of panic because there are more open mouths in the nest then there the number of insects.
Everyone is in survival mode by hook or by crook. And hence, it has GREATLY contributed to corruption.
Trust me, when your stomach is empty, NOTHING goes in your brain. That's a fact.
As the famous analogy goes.
Someone asked a starving man, what's 2+2?
He replied: 4 breads.
Folks don't care how do they get what they need. There is no honesty at work places and at businesses because the fear is, if you follow the route of honesty in this state of chaos, you will be left empty handed.
How to address this issue?
There is a severe lack of funds and economic squeeze on many, many, many poor families.
And mostly these families in the extremely lower income bracket are the ones that have the highest number or kids.
I think the govt of Pakistan should allocate funds to provide monetary incentives to every young man and women to go through a free process of female tubal ligation and male vasectomy.
Right now, many of these poor families can't even think of family planning because the cost of going to a doctor puts them behind in putting a hot meal on the table for kids.
So when, lets say Rs 10,000 or so is given to get a vasectomy or tubal ligation done, we might see millions getting in line.
And ANY Mullah who opposes this should be shot at sight.
This is NOT abortion.
This is prevention before it occurs.
This is common sense of an action to address the problem of over growing population and dying resources.
Islam encourages us to use our intelligence and make wise choices.
Once the explosive growth of population is tightly controlled, we will have a good amount of resources for everyone. The corruption will be reduced, the state of panic will be calmed down. Masses will more likely to have full tummies so their brain starts accepting what is taught to them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
And finally, I am someone who has lived in Pakistan for may years and also, abroad for many years.
My experiences and my exposures to life may be different from yours.
I have noticed that sometimes when I discuss these problems with those who have never been outside of Pakistan to have a good comparison between other societies, often get very offended.
They are not even ready to except any of this as their issue. They will rather jump on you and start talking about problems in USA or UK or Australia or where you a Pakistan expat live.
This like burring your head in the sand to live in denial, and trust me it won't do any good to anyone, but if you have such a view, don't hesitate to post it. But remember, if you are not ready to accept your issues, you will never be able to fix them.
The intent is that we are going to try to discuss the issues and present our solutions.
If you identify an issue, I expect you to discuss a possible solution as well.
