Solar Eclipse 2017

So this will be my first solar eclipse. For those of you who have experienced this, what do you guys recommend? How was the experience?

Really excited about this! The news is everywhere here.

We are in the ~95% range for the path of totality.

I live in Nashville, TN and is right on the path of totality. Really excited about it. Have heard how some people have a out of body spiritual experience while witnessing the total eclipse. Who knows after that I might become a eclipse chaser also known as the umbraphile.

We're expecting 90% in Colorado Springs. The last one I observed was in 1999, but I haven't bought any of those special glasses yet. Schools are providing them for the kids, and I'm sure there will be enough people in the office using them that I may get to borrow them for the occasional glance.

I bought those glasses a few months in advance which was a good move as now, at least here, the stores have run out of them.

I ordered 4 solar eclipse glasses for family 10 days back, but glasses would not arrive in time.
My place supposed to get max 56% and all local radio stations going gaga over it.

Interesting fact about those of us who won't be within the area where its 100% totality, being in the 99% totality range equates to 10,000 time more brightness.

Have heard how some people have a out of body spiritual experience while witnessing the total eclipse.

Here in Colorado, people regularly have out of body spiritual experiences anyhow. The eclipse may just push them off the edge.

Apparently you can't look at it or else you go blind and young men are most prone to eye injury.

It is recommended not to directly stare at it because of the harmful UV rays. The sun might be blocked out but that doesn't block out the harmful rays. Solar glasses have run out everywhere. Would definitely use glasses to look directly at it.

Okay so I made an eclipse-seeing device with a cereal box, tinfoil, tape, push-pin and a piece of paper. It works rn I can see the sun and the moon. Insha'Allah I will see the eclipse 71%. It's on an article on some NASA government site.

I was able to borrow glasses. There were plenty at the office, and we all had a picnic of sorts outside.

Even though we only had 90%, it was eerie: it felt like you had sunglasses on, the temperature dropped significantly, and the pine trees actually form many pinholes, so you could actually track the eclipse just by looking at the shadows of the pine trees.

The only thing missing were druids performing fertility rituals, but I guess we can't have everything.

Lol its weird because where I am it was about 70% path of totality and exact same thoughts.

Usually as soon as I get in the car it feels like I've stepped into a human oven, but not today.

I took a video and while it doesn't show anything major at first glance there's another reflection from the sun's rays which shows about 2/3 of it being covered.

It's also my mom's birthday so i joked that this eclipse was the gift and I wouldn't need to get a real gift, didn't get a laugh.

Its my youngest's sixth birthday tomorrow. When he was born, there was an earthquake two days prior, in an area which rarely ever has any seismic activity. There has to be a connection, there just has to be.

You could've put the camera lens under the solar glasses and it would've given a clearer image of the eclipse.

Early 1999, if I'm not mistaken. PTV had an around-the-clock show going, following the passage of the eclipse over Pakistan.

We all stepped outside our offices to witness this (must say it was a great experience), everyone here was out and about and very excited about this moment. Next eclipse close to this will happen in 2045. The path for that won't be near our area, will be a bit more south.

There will be another one in 2024, but the path for that one will be more vertical and not horizontal like this was, across the country.

Saw it. Clear blue sky with 100% totality. Once in a lifetime experience. Total eclipse is eerie for sure. Looked like we were in the twilight zone. Saw the planet Venus as well. Our planetary system is beautiful and magnificent. Feel like watching a sci-fi movie now.
