"Someone who comes here for money will not get that sort of commitment from us" : Ehsan Mani

Ehsan Mani at a presser:

"Cricket coming back to Pakistan didn't happen overnight. Since I came, we have worked hard on this. Also giving credit where it's due, in the last 3-4 years there was a lot of work done to get cricket back in Pakistan. PSL had a big role in this, we increased the number of matches in Pakistan from 4 last year to 8 this year and they were an outstanding success. I am hopeful that we will get the same type of support for bilateral series against SL as we got in PSL"

"When our players play outside Pakistan, the stadiums are virtually empty and no one comes to watch so there is no motivation, it's soul destroying to be playing in empty grounds. I hope people come to support Pakistan, and also to applaud SL"

"We should never forget that Sri Lanka were the victims of a terrible attack 10 years ago. The same team has now returned to Pakistan and I am extremely thankful to them for the way they have stepped forward to support cricket in Pakistan"

"It's also true that we have supported SL. When they became a Test nation, we had a big part to play and in the first 10 years that they played international cricket, Pakistan played the most cricket against them. Pakistan supported them a lot in their formation"

"This year there was an unfortunate attack in Colombo. 10 days after that, we sent our U19 team to SL. There is no place in the world nowadays that you can say is completely safe, like NZ and the Christchurch attack when the BD team was there"

"Pakistan has experience in the last 10-12 years of managing security and we're right up there with the best countries of the world in terms of security. All the credit for that goes to our agencies, armed forces and police for the way they have handled this in Pakistan and supported cricket"

"Transparency and merit are important things in my view; Whoever wishes to come to Pakistan, we will welcome them gladly but someone who comes here for money, he will not have that sort of commitment"

"Giving money for players to come to Pakistan is a short-term measure but what we want to do is to lay foundations so that international cricket stays here"

Good words by Mani - seems that PCB have a plan for this but all depends on foreign teams if they will listen to reason or not

Pcb needs to convince the players. Boards will not object if players agree.

About time.

Enough of this lining the pockets of people who only want to use PCB to make some quick and easy money.

It is human nature to exploit the desperate

PCB needs to hammer the point that in 2019, Pakistan is safe as it was when teams used to regularly tour Pakistan. This stigma of 2009 needs to be attacked from that angle. Nobody stops Israel from touring Germany because of what happened in Munich in the 70s. It was a long time ago and the reality is now different. Pakistan was truly dangerous around 2009 and a few years after that, but the terrorists attacks and casualties from terrorist attacks are down 85-90% from that time.

I think it is too early for this bravado. A few refused tours and PCB will have no choice but to backtrack and offer financial incentives.

At the end of the day, world cricket doesn't need to play in Pakistan but Pakistan needs them to play in Pakistan.

Pakistan is not a major venue like India, Australia and England. You cannot have a single match in Pakistan ever and nothing will change.

I don’t understand our stance.

We are essentially telling teams that they can tour Pakistan if they want to, but they won’t be getting any extra money.

How is that going to work out? Look at it from the perspective of the other teams.

Is Pakistan a great place to visit? No

Is Pakistan safer than other cricket countries? No

Is Pakistan still dangerous that other cricket countries? Yes

Does performing in Pakistan boost your career? Maybe, but the only place that matters in Asia is India.

If you do well in Pakistan and fail in India, the latter will define your legacy.

What exactly is the incentive for teams to tour Pakistan if not make some quick cash?

The only way this could work (hypothetically, because it will never happen) is for all cricket boards to unanimously agree that they will tour Pakistan just like any other country, and accept the risks that come with it.

We look at from a Pakistani perspective which is influenced by patriotism and bias. However, if you take a neutral, objective position and do a cost-benefit analysis of touring Pakistan, there are hardly any benefits if we remove the financial benefits.

I don’t think Pakistan has ever been a tourist hotspot, maybe Pakistan need to acknowledge this without beating around the bushes
Most international players can earn more in a week in a t20 tournament in Nepal then on a whole tour to Pakistan and that’s with all the beaches and attractions that they don’t get in Pakistan

If world cricket loses Pakistan completely (which I know you hope) you will see the demise of world cricket.

Previous PCB hierarchy threw crazy money at players. I hope that this Board will not fall into that trap.

Nah Afganistan is a watered down version of Pakistan. They will still have a “stan” if world cricket losses Pakistan.

Boards will reject based upon political motivations. Pakistan faces no different threats and is no more or less dangerous than Sri Lanka itself, India or Bangladesh. Globally, looking at other sports, it is no worse than several African nations which host premier league teams for pre-season matches or international matches.

The exclusion of Pakistan from home matches is political.

Might as well register a Kazakhstan team to balance it out

Imran Khan is the PM. Pakistan should leverage him to the max to get international teams to tour.

That is not what I hope and there is no need for melodrama. Pakistan will not stop playing cricket, and there will be no demise of world cricket as long as India is investing in the sport. They are the market of the sport and own the game. The future of cricket lies solely in their hands.

No, it will lose a considerable amount of viewership including the interest of a billion Indian fans who have a similar interest of Indian cricket being better (than Pakistan).

World cricket will die without Pakistan, it’s that poor of a sport.

Cricket will exist even if India stopped playing, let alone Pakistan. Ashes existed for 70 years before Pakistan became a nation.

India's interest in Pakistan has also waned considerably in last 5 years, now Australia is their main interest.

Lol yeah that’s a myth

Ashes was before the age of globalization.

There’s no telling the repercussions of one major cricketing-nation leaving the game.

‘PCB won’t pay extra money to international teams’ Ehsan Mani

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s chairman Ehsan Mani is confident that the board will not pay any extra money to the international teams to tour Pakistan in future.

While talking to the media at National Stadium Karachi (NSK) along with Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC)’s representatives during the second ODI between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, Mani said that the board has raced the efforts to bring more international teams in the country but will make sure to not offer any extra money to the players.

“No, we won’t pay any extra money to the players in the future. It is about cricket and not money,” Mani said while replying to a question.

The PCB’s boss thanked the international cricket boards to consider Pakistan as the venue to play cricket and is hopeful to host some more high-profile teams in the near future.

“The things are significantly changing for us which indicates our efforts in the right direction. We are in talks with several cricket boards which include England Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Australia (CA). The representatives from ECB and CA are expected to tour Pakistan soon to inspect the security situation in the country,” he said.

Talking about hosting Test cricket, Mani once again clarified that they haven’t discussed the matter so far. “Firstly, let this series happen successfully. We will talk about hosting Test series later,” Mani said.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan and Sri Lanka are to play a two-match Test series in December this year. The PCB aims to host the series in Pakistan following the feedback of three ODIs and T20Is series in the country.

Should PCB start demanding executive level security and higher compensation for tours of SL and NZ? I mean, these countries have had recent terror attacks, surely they're unsafe.
No, and while it will take time to convince foreign boards to tour Pakistan without preconditions, refusing to offer higher compensation is a good first step. It's time to stop these ridiculous expectations that touring Pakistan is somehow different than touring any other country.

PCB chairman Mani expressed deep and sincere gratitude to the Sri Lanka team and officials for making the tour a reality. Mani said the moment was the right one to acknowledge Sri Lanka’s efforts to help bring back full time international cricket to Pakistan.

“They have been exceptional in their support for Pakistan cricket. They knew how important it was for this tour to take place. Without their support this tour would not have been possible,” Mani said.

The PCB chief said terrorism has targeted countries all round the world and every nation is fighting the ill. However, Mani insisted that the game must go on “We’ve seen what happened in Christchurch and it was horrible, Sri Lanka too were target of terrorism. But these things can happen anywhere. The main thing is that the security and safety of the players cannot be sacrificed,” said the former ICC president.

The country’s cricket chief revealed more countries are now open to the idea of at least talking about sending their teams to Pakistan in near future. “Kevin Roberts, Australian Cricket Board’s chief executive was in Lahore earlier this month. Apart from him, officials from Ireland and New Zealand have also initiated talks with the PCB.

“I’m very grateful to the Australian Cricket Board for sending their chief executive and head of security while their chairman has promised to come to Pakistan in the future,” said Mani.

“Similarly England will be sending their chief executive and their board’s director. Then we’ve got cricket Ireland whom we didn’t even mention, they’ve offered to come themselves. New Zealand has been speaking to us. So the message is getting across.”

Problem is if other countries find SL and NZ safe to tour and goes on about their business then it’s only going to isolate Pakistan even further. Last thing PCB wants is more hostile boards.

Yeh extra money should instead go into the pockets of PCB officials for doing nothing... :miandad:
