The "best all-round bowling attack in world cricket" is currently playing relegation-challenged Somerset in a 4 day match.

Somerset 304/2 (78.3 ov)

Is this the best Australia have?

Aaaaaand you jinxed it. Somerset have no middle order. Tresco, Compo and Hildreth carry the batting.

lol ....

I looked at the scorecard and was like what the hell...

304/2 to 320 all out.. Joke !

:))) what a jinx

5 ducks in there...

we'll OZ batting also seems brittle.....lets see how they cope

To be fair to MarkCooper, I bet even most Australians were pleasantly shocked, their bowlers inducing that collapse!

I wish this was televised. Highlight summary would do just fine too.

On the brightside, Compo looked good apparently. And a kid who averaged 17-odd in FC made a century.

Looks like the Aussies have figured out how to reverse swing the new ball after zero overs. Maybe they're just more "skilled" at "it" than anyone else at present.

hope khawaja gets a score..defo deserves a place ahead of warner whose having a shocking recent run

Maybe have Hughes/Khawaja open and drop Cowan?

i dont even know why cowan is in the squad , hes nothing special.

hughes had a horrid time in india remember , needs come catching up to do

I don't get the Australian obsession with Hughes, he has a god awful technique but Australia seem adamant to play him...

funny enough i had the same discussion with a friend two days back and know what we couldn't find 1 good reason why hughes should be in the team

Lehmann is fan of Khawaja, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Khawaja playing at 3 for the Ashes.

khawaja deserves a good run in the team just like any player does, hughes has had chance after chance, my reckoning is give khawaja a run of 10 to 15 tests and youl see what a qualityplayer he is not with 2 tests here and 2 tests there that just deflates your confidence

Taunton is always a flat deck and small boundaries mean batsmen should always be looking to plunder lots of big runs!

Because he keeps making runs in domestic cricket and nobody else does. He is not up to it, but what can you do if he averages 50 and the other contenders average in the 20s and 30s all summer,

For all the love for Useless Khawaja on here, he doesnt make any runs of significance ever. Looks great at the crease sure.

similar case to imran farhat then.....runs in domestic , nothing to show at international level

true about khawaja , nothing significant so far .. the potential seems to be there like umer amin , but the question is when is the point when youve had enough

Shoot out between Cowan and Khawaja, or is Lehmann just giving them batting time? :13:

Khawaja is Australian counterpart to Talunted Rohit. Looks pretty when on song but rarely is on song. Real temperament issue there.

I'd take Cowan for his grit above Khawaja anyways.

And it's definitely batting time. The others have scored, they need time in the middle.

Poor Compo, 30-odd out to a dodgy LBW shout. Oh well, still a decent start, wasn't really a choke this game for him. 110+ runs in it.

I can't understand letting him play for Worcester though. Poor idea to do so. Basically 1) Letting the Aussies have more practice against him. 2) Setting him up for failure, so if he chokes there, the selectors are "justified" in axing him.

I'd have kept Compo in for his recent form for Somerset, and just played him, or just left him in the Ashes squad otherwise. This reeks of trying to justify dropping him.

Maybe he can take notes from Bell (and hopefully not Ramprakash).

Though Bell would probably tell him to just score when the pressure was off... And tell him to be selected as a specialist fielder. That's pretty much the only reason we keep persisting with Bell. (And perhaps to maintain the English batsmen quota, no more than 4 of the top 7 may be Saffas?)

Australia win easily by six wickets. Australia only lost nine wickets in the match.
