"Sometimes a stare was enough to unsettle the batsman" : Curtly Ambrose

That would intimidate anyone mate. An angry tall strong guy who's also black aka giving Mike tyson vibes would scare the daylights out of anyone.
Steve Waugh mentions in his autobiography that he uttered a profanity at Ambrose which he took offence at. Steve says that the moment he uttered it, he realised that he made a huge mistake and what the consequences might be right then and there :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Waugh was a jerk, a massive one. He was a gun captain and truth be told, the classic aissie team was inherited by Pointing, not crafted. Waugh is the founder

But he was an utter jerk, didn't even get alon with his own teammates, was an utter monster towards others, + he's a massive bully.

He bullies others but when people bite back he mellows down or hides behind others.

Terrific player and a certified atg but not remembered for his behaviour.

Purpose of a stare is to unsettle the batter.

If it angers the batter and makes him make mistake, mission accomplished.
Modern batsmen make enough mistakes on their own. No stare required!

Having said that, a stare would unsettle very few modern day players. I seriously doubt Dravid, Tendulkar, Cook would be unsettled into a mistake. Heck even some current players like Khawaja would not be.

Probably did work in the 90's and before in a much higher percentage.

When I see nahid rana and shoriful it's too intimidating. I almost pee my pants when I see indian batsmen go out on the pitch to face them. I agree a stare from them is enough for me. A person watching via TV. Imagine the players plight.

Not friendly at all. Did u watch last bgt lol? Far from friendly.

Things are very friendly in modern day cricket. I think there are 2 reasons - 1) there is now a demerit point system, and 2) players play with each other in various leagues.

Things were far more wild during those days.
