What a brilliant player!

Hat trick today for Spurs away at Villa.

Top scorer in the PL this season apart from Salah.

Not only a great footballer but a fantastic role-model and ambassador for his country and the region.

Football needs more such players.

He's very good but Kane is outrageous in this form.

Some suggesting he's better than Salah must be a little fickle though.

You've had to be living under a rock though to not appreciate the magic of Son, who Conte has revitalised with the rest of the team.

Did disappear for large parts along with his teammates.

Son continues his brilliant season, up to 19 goals now, just 3 behind Mo Salah.

I wonder why he's never been considered for player of the season awards? Every time I watch him he seems to cause absolute havoc. Season after season.

If he was Brazilian or Argentinian and not Korean he would be worth over a £120mn

Yes, or even English/French/etc.

He has surely got to be one of the best ever footballers from Asia, possibly the best.

Phenomenal footballer. Will go down as the greatest Asian footballer by a country mile and a Premier League ATG.

Yes, or even English/French/etc.

He has surely got to be one of the best ever footballers from Asia, possibly the best.

Terrible Brazilian and Argentinian footballers are eulogised because of their history and players like Son are treated as ok. The guy is a sensation

Another excellent performance from him tonight.

Gary Neville spot on when he said, any team in the world would want him in their side at the moment.

Scored last night, again.

But of course he did.

Son and Kane. The dream team.

Tottenham forward Son Heung-min says he would take qualifying for the Champions League over winning the Golden Boot.

The South Korean has scored 21 Premier League goals this season, with Liverpool's Mohamad Salah currently leading the race with 22.

Tottenham are fifth in the league, just one point behind rivals Arsenal with two games remaining.

"It would be nice but for us it is important to finish in the top four," the 29-year-old said.

Son scored his 21st goal in Spurs' 3-0 thrashing of Arsenal in the North London derby on Thursday.

He has scored 10 goals in his last eight games, including a hat-trick against Aston Villa.

Asked if he would trade scoring more goals for a Champions League spot, Son said: "Yeah, 100%.

"Obviously it's a good thing that you are racing, but I have said a few times that it is important to finish in the top four [more] than anything else."

Spurs host Burnley at 12:30 BST on Sunday before ending their season at Norwich on 22 May.

Manager Antonio Conte told reporters on Friday that Son had promised to score against Burnley after he was taken off during the second half of the Arsenal match.

Son said the schedule and Spurs' early kick-off was "madness".

"I am always not happy at coming off because I want to be on the pitch because I love playing football and I want to help the team," Son added.

"I can understand why because we have a really quick game on Sunday. I can't promise I will score but I will do my best and I will do my best for the team, and if I don't score I will do my best.

"To be honest, looking at the schedule it is madness. It is a really quick turn and we need to do everything to recover and then get ready to go again."

Spurs last 2 games against Burnley at home and Norwich away gives Son a very realistic of snatching the Golden Boot.

Fantastic achievement from Son!

A well deserved accolade.

Chelsea insist they will take the "strongest action" as they investigate reports Tottenham forward Son Heung-min was racially abused at Stamford Bridge.

The incident is alleged to have happened when Son went to take a corner in the second half during Sunday's 2-2 draw in the Premier League.

The club have previously banned fans for life following racist incidents.

In a statement, Chelsea said discriminatory behaviour was "totally abhorrent".

It added: "Chelsea FC has consistently made its zero tolerance position on discriminatory behaviour very clear, yet there are still idiots like this that attach themselves to this club as so called 'fans', which shames Chelsea FC, our coaches, players, staff and our true supporters.

"We are investigating this incident and, if identified, this individual will face the strongest action from the club.

"It has no place at Chelsea or in any of our communities."

Chelsea's long-running 'No To Hate' campaign launched its latest initiative on Sunday, which gives instructions on the back of every seat on how supporters can report alleged abuses by either by text or by barcode on a smartphone.

They believe that identifying a specific seat from which incidents either happen or are reported will help increase the chances of individuals being caught.

Wow!

Son Heung-min to undergo surgery for fracture around eye as World Cup hopes put in doubt

Son Heung-min will undergo surgery after his head injury which puts a major doubt over his fitness for the World Cup.

Tottenham striker Son suffered a fracture near his left eye during their Champions League win in Marseille on Tuesday night.

South Korea star Son will face a race against time after the operation which will be done to “stabilise” the injury but the club are not putting a time scale on the recovery and stress it will depend on rehabilitation.

The Tottenham statement said: “We can confirm that Heung-Min Son will undergo surgery to stabilise a fracture around his left eye.

“The South Korea international suffered the injury during the first half of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League victory at Olympique Marseille.

“Following surgery, Son will commence rehabilitation with our medical staff and we shall update supporters further in due course.”

Son suffered severe swelling after being caught by an elbow and the injury leaves Tottenham short on forwards ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool with Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski also missing through injury.

South Korea have named Son Heung-min in their 26-man World Cup squad after the Tottenham forward declared himself fit for the tournament.

Son, 30, had been a doubt after having surgery on a fractured eye socket suffered earlier this month.

But he assured South Korea fans on Wednesday that he will play in Qatar.

Coach Paulo Bento says he is not sure when Son can start training again, ahead of their first game against Uruguay on 24 November.

"We don't have that information yet," said Bento.

"We are in contact with him, with the Tottenham medical department. We need to wait, we need to analyse day by day his situation.

"We have time to decide and the most important is he recovers as well as possible, he feels comfortable and then we will take the final decision."

Son may need to wear a protective mask if he is to play any part in Qatar, where South Korea will also face Ghana and Bento's native Portugal in Group H.

Son Heung-min is arguably Asian football's first global superstar - and he is now the continent's first player to hit 100 goals in the Premier League.

Since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2015, the South Korean has blossomed into one of the world's best players, while maintaining the same humble and infectiously upbeat personality he's become famous for.

"He always finds it easy to laugh and talk with people. He tries to motivate everyone. When the dressing room is sad for some reason, he's always there to make you smile again," said former team-mate and close friend Moussa Sissoko.

"Sometimes you come in after training, or after a game, when you've had a bad moment, and to have someone like him is very important. Sonny is this type of player. If you ask anyone, they'll tell you the same. He's a top man, a top player, a top human being."

A steely determination lies behind that winning smile. His father was a professional footballer too and his influence has shaped the 30-year-old's career.

Self-critical and dedicated to improving his craft, becoming the first Asian player to reach the 100-goal milestone in the English top flight is a huge achievement and a piece of history.

Such accolades haven't come easily. When Son arrived in England, he needed a period of adjustment. Even as Tottenham challenged Leicester City for the title in his first season, before a late collapse saw them drop to third, he was in and out of the team, making just 13 league starts.

"It takes time to settle into the Premier League, as everybody knows, because it's a lot more physical," said Harry Winks, who is currently on loan at Sampdoria. "You can see over the years how much he's matured physically - how strong and powerful he is. That's just credit to his work in the gym and on the pitch."

Sissoko joined Spurs a year after Son and was also struck by his dedication.

"He's always the first to arrive at the training ground. He's very focused on his job. He goes to the gym and does his own stuff before meeting up with all the squad," said the France midfielder.

"He tries to improve himself, the players next to him, and the team as well. You can see during the game, he's always energetic. He's a winner and he always has that desire inside him."

After a slow start, Son became indispensable to Mauricio Pochettino's side. His reputation grew as the goals flowed, helping them consistently qualify for the Champions League, even reaching the final in 2019, by playing a brand of high-intensity attacking football that thrilled supporters.

In vital moments, Spurs now rely on him to deliver.

"No matter what the scoreline is, or how the game's going, you just need one chance to fall to Sonny," said Winks. "He's clinical in front of goal, with his left foot and his right foot. His technical ability and his finishing is absolutely exceptional.

"He's a phenomenal dribbler. It's his speed driving with the ball, his close control, his touch - it's everything.

"There are lots of players who are quick without the ball, but very few who are almost as quick with it, as you can see from that excellent goal he scored against Burnley."

That sublime solo effort, the centrepiece of a 5-0 win, was even honoured with the Puskas Award. Son gained possession on the edge of his own box and assessed his options. Finding no passes available, he elected to run with the ball instead, gathering pace as he approached the halfway line. Gaps opened up so he powered on alone, skipping away from two challenges and calmly slotting the ball past Nick Pope at the end of a remarkable 70-yard dribble.

Football fans have criticised commentator Martin Tyler for a comment he made during Liverpool's 4-3 win against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, which some supporters have claimed was 'racist'.

The comment in question was said as Spurs' South Korean forward, Son Heung-min, fouled Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo.

Son, who scored Tottenham's second goal during the match, pulled Gakpo away from the ball as the Liverpool player advanced upfield on the counter-attack.

Experienced figure Tyler was overheard on Sky Sports' commentary likening Son's defence to 'martial arts'.

And supporters quickly took to Twitter to criticise the comments.

'Martin Tyler referring to a Son foul as "martial arts." Wow,' said one fan while another added 'Did I just hear Martin Tyler refer to Son's tackle as "martial arts" like? Are we not taking that as a racist comment?'

Another fan said 'Martin Tyler saying "martial arts" after Son grabbed Gakpo is not a good look.'

While another fan said: 'Martin Tyler's "martial arts" comment about Son's yellow card was disgusting, xenophobic and racist, not happy.'

A Sky Sports spokesperson said: 'Martin Tyler has been reminded of need for care with his wording. No offence was intended.'

The Sky sports commentator was also recently forced to apologise after he said Ukrainian goalkeeper Heorhiy Bushchan should 'soldier on' after he picked up an ankle injury in a match against Wales, amid ongoing conflict in the country.

Tyler was on commentary duties for Liverpool's win against Tottenham, that saw the Reds secure a late win at Anfield after Diogo Jota scored in the 93rd minute of the match.

Ryan Mason's side went down by three goals in the opening 15 minutes of the game with Curtis Jones getting Jurgen Klopp's side off to a fast start, placing a volley past Fraser Forster inside the opening three minutes.

Luis Diaz scored on his first start back from injury just two minutes later, before Mohamed Salah took advantage of some very poor Spurs defending to score from the spot.

Harry Kane would pull his side back into the match with a goal before half-time, with Son making it 3-2 after the break.

Richarlison looked to have found the equaliser late on but Jota turned a gallant comeback from Spurs into a loss, meaning the London side have now only gained one point from their last three matches.

His compilation of best goals is amazing. He only scores stunners.

Tottenham Hotspur have condemned alleged racist abuse directed towards Son Heung-min during their home win against Crystal Palace.

Posts on social media appear to show a man in the away end making a gesture at the South Korea forward on Saturday.

"Discrimination of any kind is abhorrent and has no place in society, our game and at our club," said Spurs.

Palace added: "Evidence has been shared with the police, and when he is identified, he will face a club ban."

The Eagles, who were beaten 1-0 at Spurs in the Premier League, said they were "aware of a video circulating online (as well as reports made directly to us) regarding an individual in the away end at Spurs, appearing to make racist gestures towards Son Heung-min".

Chelsea banned a fan indefinitely for making a racist gesture towards Son during a match at Stamford Bridge on 14 August 2022.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) also banned the individual from attending football games for three years.

"We are working with Met Police and Crystal Palace to investigate and identify the individual involved," said Spurs.

"We will do everything in our powers to ensure that if found guilty, the individual will receive the strongest possible action - as was the case earlier this season when Son suffered similar racial abuse at Chelsea."

Tottenham supporters' group Spurs REACH, which stands for Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage, said: "Why oh, who, oh why, do adults in this day and age think that this is an acceptable way to behave towards another human being?

"We sincerely hope that Crystal Palace Football Club identify and ban this individual for life."

Spurs also called for social media companies to take action in February after Son was subjected to "utterly reprehensible" racist abuse online during a Premier League win against West Ham.

Heung-Min Son only the second player in Premier League history to score a goal and own goal in the opening 10 minutes of a game. An ambivalent record indeed.

Son Heung-min tells South Korean police he is victim of blackmail attempt

Son Heung-min has filed a complaint to South Korean police alleging he was the victim of a blackmail attempt, his agency said, after media reports that a woman had threatened the Tottenham Hotspur captain with a false pregnancy claim.

“The police are currently investigating, so we will let you know the results as soon as they are available,” his agency, Son & Football Limited, said. “We’d like to tell you that Son Heung-min is clearly the victim of this incident.”

Police had arrested a woman in her 20s and a man in his 40s, and were investigating allegations they tried to extort money from Son with the fake pregnancy claim, local media reported, citing police.

The Seoul Gangnam Police Station did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the reports. Son, 32 is hugely popular in South Korea, not only for his success on the pitch in the Premier League but also for his dedication to the country’s national team as their captain.

Son returned as a substitute on Sunday from a month’s layoff with a foot problem and hopes to play a part in Wednesday’s Europa League final against Manchester United.
