South Africa confirms first tour to Pakistan in 14 years

very welcome news! I will be rooting for South Africa, but good luck to both teams. Let us hope to see good cricket from both teams.

I love that Babar Azam is looking at rankings. He is driven by numbers, it seems, which is quite refreshing compared to 'we have a great team atmosphere.'

Well done Mani and Wasim. I have many complaints against them, Misbah selection being on top, but their work on getting teams into Pakistan has been absolutely world class. They have a voice and they are using it.

Oh I’m so happy! Just hope all goes well... inshAllah.

Bring it on, baby!

I dont want us to prepare spin tracks. The pitches should be good and sporting. I dont care if we lose, provided that we get to see a high quality of cricket.

Exactly we aint going to improve if we prepare spin tracks it should suppoort both bowlers and batters and later on spinners

Will this series be live on sky sports with SA series generally being on this channel in the UK? Amjid Javed MenInG

Excellent news well done to everyone involved the pitches should be something init for the bowlers the batters and the spinners.

I would like to see south africa A team along with the main team against Pakistan shaheens A

Just a side note...congtratulations to S Ganguly for paving the way for Dhoni to win T20 in 2007 followed by the World Cup and Champs Trophy!

It is a Pakistan home series so I would guess not.

Not sure if you’re being sarcastic but Dada deserves a lot of credit for that team he created. Then Dhoni took it to the next level.

In this case too, Sethi deserves a lot of credit but Wasim Khan and Ehsan Mani deserve a lot of credit too for taking it to the next level. Some people here are quite keen on crediting their likes and discrediting their dislikes. Truth is they individually both made some excellent moves which they were well suited to.

Great news, but I will only believe this when they are on the plane to Pakistan.

Totally agree...both parties deserve the credit.

Would like to see a tour game between South Punjab and South Africa

yah multan would have been a better choice , wonderful stadium as well. But i think the concern is of international standard accomodation near the stadium and thats available in khi and islamabad.

As for lahore , the smog is a big concern.

Our whole domestic is going on in khi
I had Multan in my mind while writing the post because I thought Multan has a five star hotel as few PSL matches were played there.

I think they should give certain venues and use them all for different tests throw out the year multan would be good if they had crowds and psl has been played thier

Pindi is not the best place for test in January, Karachi and Multan are better option, weather is warmer, slightly longer days and almost no fog.

Hope the games will be without any spectators , no compromise on safety. Covid is not going away any time soon.

Great news but why do we only play 2 match test matches ? Should play 3 test matches minimum

Huge news for sure and it's great to see.

I believe NZ and England are set to tour in 2021 as well so this will set the platform for that.

Well done to CSA and its players for being so supportive to Pakistani cricket over the last few years and should be a good series to enjoy.

The only people who need to show class are the ones mocking Sethi for paying players money.

They don’t understand how hard it was to convince teams at the time.

Whether they accept it or not, the reality is that Wasim and Mani wouldn’t be able to convince big teams to tour in 2020 if it wasn’t for the efforts of Sethi and Shahryar.

And I accept this. Their work deserves acknowledgment. But The work being done by the current management should be too. Saying they are capitalizing on the previous management's work as if it's a bad thing is weird.

Every time something good happens its the work of Sethi and every little mistake by Wasim is a blunder that deserves Pakistan to be banned from cricket is how your opinions come out, which makes it hard to side with either one.

Disappointing to see only 2 tests . . all series should be 3 tests . .

and even more disappointing to see 3 T20s and 0 ODIs . . we continue to play so many T20s . . Eng tour, NZ tour now SA tour . . are we deserting ODIs? Why do we even have expectation of our team doing well in ODIs when we hardly play? It would be interesting to see a chart of how many ODIs we have played since the world cup as opposed to other teams . . I understand there is a general trend of reducing ODIs and replacing them with T20s (hence we are seeing 5 match series less and less) which is also very disappointing! but I would still expect every series to have ODIs . .

ICC is facilitating the move to T20 cricket in the international calendar . . if that's a decision they have made to put business interest ahead of coming up with solutions to genuine issues, then I am afraid cricket and its beauty that we love is going to die! The longer the format, the better the cricket! This T20 business makes ordinary and mediocre players look great and potentially great cricketers look mediocre!

2 test and 3 T20s makes sense. As much as i hate 2 test series and No ODIs, pakistan has to just get some cricket in at home and build up series lengths in time. For now enjoy what we get.

Look forward to these test matches, they are of more interest to me in terms of what decisions the new chief selector makes and what changes we see in our team composition.

Would like to see a young spinner be given a chance in home conditions, possibly Shadab or Zafar Gohar considering that Yasir Shah spins it one way.

Would like to also see a batsman debut in the test series, preferably someone like Saud Shakeel, if he comes off with a good QEA season.

It could do with the fact that thiers 2 t20 tournaments coming up hence why alot more t20s

Men cricketers briefed on Covid-19 protocols for South Africa series

Christchurch, 5 January 2021:

The Pakistan Shaheens' squad members were briefed about the Covid-19 protocols, prepared by the PCB's Medical Advisory Committee, for the home series against South Africa before their departure from New Zealand.

The players and support staff will undergo two Covid-19 tests on 13 and 16 January at their residence before the third test on 19 January, which will be conducted upon arriving at the center station to join the squad.

The squad members have been instructed to cover their faces with masks on flight and limit their physical contact upon arrival in Pakistan.

Dr Sohail Saleem, Director Medical and Sports Sciences and the chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, delivered the educational lecture to the Shaheens' players and he will also brief the men's national team about the protocols at the conclusion of the Christchurch Test.

I hope we don't see a repeat of the problems in New Zealand.

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa’s cricket team will head to Pakistan later this month for the first time in 14 years with captain Quinton de Kock excited by a new challenge but wary of the rigours of being stuck in another bio-secure bubble.

South Africa last toured Pakistan in 2007 when they won the two-match series 1-0 and return for two tests and three Twenty20 internationals later this month.

“There are two sides to it,” said De Kock, who began his tenure as South Africa’s new test skipper with a 2-0 home series win over Sri Lanka, completed on Tuesday with a 10-wicket win in Johannesburg.

“I’m excited to get over there and play cricket in what will be a new challenge. But the off-the-field stuff is another type of challenge. Bubble life is probably going to be the hardest challenge we will face out there.”

South Africa were in a bio-secure environment for December’s abortive limited over series against England and again for the two tests against Sri Lanka.

“It’s very unsettling and a little nervy. It’s an accumulation of a lot of little things you are not used to plus the uncertainty of being caught in a lockdown, where you are then stuck in a place,” De Kock said.

“That’s the worst case scenario but it is something you do think about. But for now, we just have to deal with it in the best way possible.”

International cricket has returned to Pakistan in the past 15 months following a militant attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore in 2009 that killed six policemen and two civilians.

The country has hosted Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe since September 2019, while England recently announced a short two-match 20-over series in October next year in the build-up to the T20 World Cup in India.

Pakistan has decent pace bowlers as well, that should make for a competitive series which I would far prefer to dull cricket matches where both teams end up grinding out scores on lifeless wickets.

Hopefully after New Zealand series, you have changed your mind. :smith

I have written it before and I will write it again, it would be a mistake to provide pace friendly pitches to South Africa.

All the countries prepare the home pitches which suit their team and take the full advantage of home grounds, we should do the same.

The South African squad that will tour Pakistan from January 16 will be given state guest level security as Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the arrangements.

In the notification issued by the PM’s office, the Interior and Foreign Ministry have been instructed to make arrangements for the state guests.

The South African team is scheduled to play two Tests (Karachi and Rawalpindi) and three T20 matches in Lahore.

As per arrangements being made by the Interior ministry a foolproof security plan has been prepared and around 500 personnel of the paramilitary Rangers will be on duty with the touring side.

The South African team is the first high-profile cricket squad to tour Pakistan since 2010 although in last three years, a World Eleven, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and West Indies have played Tests and white-ball matches in Pakistan.

South Africa will be touring Pakistan for the first time since 2007, the year a massive bomb attack took place on the convoy of slain prime minister, Benazir Bhutto in Karachi on the airport road in which at least 200 people were killed.

Several bombs exploded around the convoy of the former prime minister as she was being taken in a big procession after returning to Pakistan from Dubai.

The South Africans who were playing in Multan at that time, however, decided to complete the tour although the last match was shifted from Karachi to Lahore for security reasons.

The Interior Ministry has also decided that personal of the Police and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) will also be used for the protection of the touring squad when they travel from their hotel to the ground.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board has also prepared a comprehensive biosecurity plan and on arrival in Karachi and in the lead up to the first Test, South Africa will observe an isolation period following which they will hold training sessions and play intra-squad practice matches.

Cricket South Africa has announced an extended squad of 21 players for the tour with premier fast bowler Rabada included in the line-up after recovering from an injury.
