Done well for SA now - maiden 50 and playing a crucial knock. How good is he?

He has 148 FC matches under his belt with 32 100s and an average of 45. Those are some impressive numbers. Its surprising that it took SA so long to debut him at the age of 30 when they were clearly struggling to find an opener to pair with Elgar for few years now.

Interesting fact: He is the brother of Janneman Malan, one of the most impressive young SA batsman.

The guy is practically a body-builder. Very gritty knock today. Did not give England an inch.

Hard to say at this point. Too many South African openers have played knocks like these in the past few years only to lose form and get dropped.

His younger brother Janneman is probably best batsman n family. They have one more brother playing cricket in between two, Andre, and he is also good.
