Proteas Men’s head coach Shukri Conrad has today announced full-strength squads for the upcoming white-ball tour against Australia, scheduled to take place next month.

Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma return to lead the Proteas in the three-match T20 International (T20I) series from 10 - 16 August, followed by a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series from 19 - 24 August. The matches will be played across Darwin, Cairns and Mackay.

Hollywoodbets Dolphins off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen, who recently made his Test debut against Zimbabwe, has earned his maiden call-up to the T20I and ODI squads. He enjoyed a successful past season, leading the Dolphins to the One-Day Cup title as captain.

Momentum Multiply Titans batters Dewald Brevis and Lhuan-dré Pretorius have been named in the ODI squad, with Pretorius receiving his first call-up to the 50-over setup. While Brevis was part of the ODI squad for the home series against Australia in 2023, he is yet to debut. Both players will be aiming to build on their experience in T20Is and Tests as they continue their progression at international level.

Brevis, Pretorius and Subrayen feature in both squads, along with batters Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs, as well as seamers Corbin Bosch (Titans), Nandre Burger, Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada.

“It’s great to have our senior players back in the mix after their rest following the WTC Final,” said Conrad. “Their experience and quality add real value to the group as we continue to build a strong core in both formats.

“Every series from here on plays a part in shaping our squads for next year’s T20 World Cup and the 50-over World Cup at home in 2027.

“Touring Australia is never easy. We know their conditions and intensity will test us in every department, and that’s exactly the kind of challenge we’re after.”

This series will help nuture aussie talent and revive their odi team

Wonder if the new stadium in Townsville will ever get to host some international cricket. Looks pretty spiffy.

Good to see cricket back in the top end, though.

This used to an epic series in the Graeme Smith Era, one of the best test match ups in test history.

Sad to see if relegated to a random ODI tour, for most neutral fans the series is just meh

This was the bilateral that produced 434 takes on 438. Saffers toured for Tests only 3 years ago.

It was time for a white ball tour b

Owen set for ODI debut, Aussie big names return

Some big names return to Australia's white-ball squads to face South Africa

Mitch Owen's rapid rise has continued with a maiden call-up to Australia's one-day international squad to face South Africa in August.

The Australians named a pair of 14-player squads on Wednesday that will face the Proteas in three T20s and three ODIs in Darwin, Cairns and Townsville with Owen's name listed in both.

Owen is the only uncapped player in either squad and it comes after a successful debut on the just-completed tour of the Caribbean where he played all five T20s against West Indies and finished with a strike rate of 192.30.

Australia squads to face South Africa

Both white-ball squads:
Mitchell Marsh (c), Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Owen, Matthew Short, Adam Zampa

T20 only: Sean Abbott, Tim David, Matt Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell

ODI only: Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Marnus Labuschagne, Lance Morris

The 23-year-old allrounder was the star of KFC BBL|14 with two centuries in Hobart Hurricanes' maiden title and has since become an in-demand asset in franchise cricket with contracts in South Africa, Pakistan and India, as well as a player-of-the-tournament performance in Major League Cricket in the USA.

Mitch Marsh will again captain the ODI side in the absence of Pat Cummins who, along with fellow veteran quick Mitch Starc, will sit out the series with an eye ahead to a gruelling home Ashes summer.

Travis Head and Josh Hazlewood return to both squads after having a rest for the T20 portion of the WI tour, as does Matt Short who was a late scratching in the Caribbean due to a side injury.

Australia's most recent ODI assignment was the Champions Trophy in February where they fielded a severely under-strength side and there have been a bevy of changes to the squad that lost to India in the semi-final thanks to some retirements and returning players.

Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell have called time in the format, while there was no room for Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sean Abbott, Cooper Connolly, Aaron Hardie, Marcus Stoinis, Spencer Johnson or Tanveer Sangha.

Abbott and Maxwell however, along with Tim David and Matthew Kuhnemann, will take part in the T20s.

Quicks Xavier Bartlett and Lance Morris, plus Alex Carey and Marnus Labuschagne, will only feature in the 50-over matches.

Bartlett and Morris both debuted against West Indies in February last year and the duo appear to be in the team's plans for the next 50-over World Cup, to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Australia have 11 T20Is in the schedule before next February's T20 World Cup with the three against South Africa to be followed by three in New Zealand against the Kiwis and five at home against India before the Ashes series.

Although they will also be granted a warm-up match or two before the tournament begins in India and Sri Lanka, all decisions from here will be made with the showpiece event at the front of mind.

Australia won their maiden T20 title in 2021 but put in underwhelming performances in the 2022 and 2024 editions.

"We've been playing some really good cricket but our World Cups haven't gone to plan, the last couple," leg-spinner Adam Zampa told cricket.com.au.

"We've got a lot of new guys, new faces, new roles so getting them ready for whatever pops up in that T20 World Cup. It's all a build-up to that."

Australia last played in Cairns in 2022 when they faced New Zealand in a three-match ODI series in what proved to be Aaron Finch's final series.

Their last men's international match in Darwin was in 2008 for a three-match series against Bangladesh, while they have never played in Mackay.

This should be a competitive tour.

Australia is likely to win both series.
Very excited to see Ownen make his debut and Green make his mark in odi cricket

Imo Marsh should open instead of short.

1) Travis Head
2) Mitch Marsh
3) Owen
4) Josh Inglis
5) Marnus Labu
6) Cameron Green
7) Alex Carey

^^ Australia is shaping to be a proper Bazzball odi squad now considering Green has massively improved thanks to test cricket and Owen will continue to improve again and again

Not sure this is the right way to go about it.

Selecting T20 batters for ODI cricket.

They now have 3 guys who don't have strong List A numbers in Short, Owen and Inglis.

Once again, Renshaw misses out despite possibly being the best domestic 50 overs batter.

We are building an all format team for the future and are officially in transition phase. We just suck at finding openers, but we will dominate world cricket soon enough.

Right now a phainti is coming as we will destroy England.

I want england to lose badly bit still want root to score 500 runs so that Indians get more and more :livid:

I doubt you can dominate ODI cricket with this lineup.

They'll look great on their day but they'll collapse like they did against Pakistan last year.

Not enough stability

Totally different squad, No Head, No Marsh, an outdated end of the road Steve Smith who should have quit in 2023 and not 2025.

Wasted Baggage such as JFM, Aaron Hardie, Cooper coonely, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell etc etc.

Only downside of that series was Inglis failing.

This is a completly different team. Aus just needs to get rid of Short and occupancy someone else at opening. Hopefully Renshaw

Let's see. I'm not sold but this will be an interesting ODI series for sure

This will a good series to watch if South Africa come to party.

Australia are also playing in the Northern Territory after 2004/05.

I expect Australia to win ODI series 2-1 and also T20 series 2-1.

South African LOI squad is a bit weak now after retirements of De Kock and Klaasen.

SA lost 3 games to NZ during the recent Zimbabwe tri-series.

South Africa is not a third class team like your favorite Sri Lanka who lost at home to Banglawash.

Australia will assemble a World cup winning capable team once they world cup starts.

Right now they will experiment

Brother, you are one of the rare few indian posters I like, so please refrain from bringing in this regional racism nonsense.

Brother @sweep_shot is a well mannered and good hearted person and what he has claimed isnt wrong.

Australia seems to have recovered with the inclusion of Owen and Green being far superior options to JFM, Connel, Konstas and many others and Josh Inglis is becoming a terrific whiteball batsmen.

It wont be an easy series for sa as they are slightly Weaker In whoteball. However gun test side though

They already have a strong middle order of Green-Maxwell-Owen. One of teams to beat at next year's T20 World Cup.

I like you momin, but this guy hiding in other nationality needs to be exposed.

Their is no hard and fast rule that you have to be a single nationality to support a particular team

Their are 1000+ Portugal, Argentina and many other country fans in football despite not being from that country. Many people like Ronaldo and messi despite being from other nationalities.

I have 2 passports, AU and PK, in support both teams but that does not mean I don't support England, SA as well as India.

I support India as well, I just dont support the indian trolls who irritate me and get trigger happy cause I state something.

At the start of the series I said a few things

A) Jaiswal is overrated
B) Pant is overrated
C) Sai is overrated
D) Bumrah is overrated
E) Gill will perform in this series due to Flat nature of pitches and him being an excellent FTB which i dont view as a bad thing.
F) Jadeja is overrated

I was wrong about Pant and about Jadeja(as a batsmen only). Happy to admit it. Was right about the rest, however the 🤡 gang irritates me and picks fights with me.

Otherwise im fine with indian posters on this forumn. Their many good ones here. Its just the sinister 10 led by 2007 Hinglish Time Traveller that ticks me off.

Anyway my point is, i dont need a UK, Indian or SA passport to support these 3 teams now do i? Same case with NZ.

Sena and India are cricket and they are fun teams to watch. Their should not be a nationality restriction on them.

I support all Test nations except for India. I even support Zimbabwe and Ireland. :dav

I have Harshjoshi on my ignore list along with 100+ other Indians. :inti

Anyway, looking forward to this series. I always enjoy Aus-SA games.

I use to support India until clowns on PP ruined it. Now I hate the team solely cause of these dumb dumbs

Yes a Sri Lankan hiding behind a Bangladeshi identity has to ignore members on this forum.

I'm particularly interested in seeing how the likes of Inglis, Green, Owen and David perform for us in the t20 series.
Their all terrific t20 players. I'm curious for odi as thats the weak point.

Owen recently stated that he is simply going to play odi like he plays t20 and I disagree with that approach.

Even in this era you cant bang bang everything. But I'm assuming Australia wants to go the 2019 england route. Just bash everything into oblivion and tonk 400 non stop.

But question is can they do it? That side had a prime roy, Bairstow, Morgan, and Butler.

Even then they still had stokes and root who provided stability to a certain extent.

ODI batting conditions have become tougher now. Thats why England have struggled as well. You need more stability in the middle order than before.

And now it's likely to have gotten even tougher because they are using only 1 ball for the last 16 overs.

They won a T20 World Cup with Steve Smith in their middle order. Their ODI WC winning side didn't even have a proper fifth bowler. I think with Australians they see the talent in a player and select him for white-ball. And tbh, all three of these players have the potential to do really well in ODI cricket.

Inglis in particular has really improved his form in the last year.

Inglis, Green, Owen, Head, Marsh. Australia's whiteball future is looking extremely bright.

After marsh and head retire they have the likes of Harry Dixon coming up as well.

Cambell Kellaway is set for test as well.

Only issue is Connely, Jfm and Sam konstas. Connelly sucks and shouldn't be play. Jfm and Konstas are very dodgy atm and honestly dont seem like a good fit.

Yes but Australia rarely play 5 bowlers . In all their World Cup triumphs, they have played only 4.

I have long argued that you don't need a proper fifth bowler if you have batting allrounders to do the job and give you that extra batting depth .

I'm sure a couple of guys will make the adjustments required for ODI cricket. But to pick so many guys with no List A/FC numbers is quite risky imo.

If it was any other team, I would agree with you, but Australia's system just seems to produce really complete, multi-faceted cricketers. I mean just the amount of all-rounders they tend to produce is staggering. And their selectors are really good at identifying talent.

Warner is probably one of the best examples of someone nobody pegged as anything more than a T20/white-ball batsman.

There's no guarantee that all of these guys will be winners but with the World Cup being two years out, it gives them ample time to experiment and filter guys out.
