Southern Punjab First XI Head Coach Abdul Rehman: “I have focused on building a squad that is full of young and exciting players backed by experienced and proven performers of the domestic arena. My aim is to groom players who can serve Pakistan cricket across formats at the senior level. I feel my squad has the depth and quality to play an attractive brand of cricket with an eye both on success and development of players.”

The Draw Kings. Southern Punjab drew 9 out of 10 matches last season !

They've lost a few players - Sami Aslam, AR Muzammil, Adnan Akmal and Umaid Asif to Balochistan. Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah and Dilbar Hussain are interesting hires though. However I'll be surprised if Southern Punjab make the top 3.

Strengths: Good captain in Shan Masood. Aamer Yamin and Hussain Talat are decent enough to make an XI on batting alone.
Weaknesses: Losing their solid opening combination of Shan Masood and Sami Aslam. Taking 20 wickets will again be a struggle unless they serve up some greentops for Mohammad Abbas and Rahat Ali.

Possible XI: Masood, Ashraf, Rafiq, Badar/Maqsood, Talat/Khushdil, Siddiq, Yamin, Bhatti, Abbas, Irfan (jailer), Rahat
Players to watch: Imran Rafiq has made a strong start to his FC career.

Looks like Umer Khan has been transferred from KPK to Southern Punjab which I think's a good move by PCB because Umer wasn't getting much gametime as KPK have so many spinners. Titan24 I know you're a fan of his ?

Much better squad to get oppurtunities for Umer Khan. KPK had a lot of spinners so Umer couldnt get much oppurtunities in any format.

Imran Rafiq is one of the young performers in batting from last season.

Dilbar Hussain has got his FC breakthrough, showed some impressive pace and good skills in PSL. Mohammad Imran 23 year old pacer is also a pretty decent talent.

Ali Shafiq is also a pretty solid longer format bowler, more pacier than Abbas but, overall from his community of bowlers with that relentless off stump channel. Caused troubles for some too international batsmen in PSL before getting injured. Will be lucky to have Abbas around.

Saif Badar, Zia Ul Haq and Aamir Yamin need their breakthrough season soon. Zia Ul Haq has some excellent skills with the ball, just needs to push himself a bit more to get the heads rolling once again like he did in his teenage days.

Absolutely. I was just adding my post and just saw your comment as the page refreshed. I think its a much better team for him. KPK already had a lot of spinners and spin bowling all rounders so Umer Khan couldnt even play a handful matches in any format.

In the SP squad he can play alongside Mohammad Irfan (Jailer) as the second spinner depending upon the conditions while Aamir Yamin can maintain that 3rd seamer option. In white ball cricket there is a big chance he can play as the lead spinner here in SP in almost all the matches.

I hope Saif Badar plays in most matches and is given an opportunity to bat at #4-5. Whatever limited opportunities he gets, he needs to deliver and make it count. May be he can impress Shan Masood for a selection in Sultans squad for PSL which ridiculously has become the criterion for National selectors.

Is this for the 4 day competition or odis or t20 national cup comp

Who are the young emerging player to watch out for in all three formats ??

Time to change team name to Seraiki/Serakistan/Janoob/etc

Think they have an exciting team much better than boring Sindh looking forward to their second XI.

Atleast most the players do not have international experience barring a few so few can make a name for themselves

You missed out mentioning Dilbar Hussain as a player to watch.
If he can showcase endurance to bowl in the longer form, then he should be brought into the national fold, in the shorter formats atleast since he has all the attributes to be a very fine bowler.

Not a good start to national T20 tournament. They have got their full squad available and lost all first 3 matches. They have good much more resources available then team like Central Punjab which is without 5 of its main international players and yet CP has been able to win atleast 1 game till now.

Still early in the tournament but SP needs to sort its issues out. Abdul Rehman the head coach needs to go back to the drawing board and possibly needs to import some pacers from 2nd XI if allowed.

The whole line up is wrong hussain talat should be batting at 3 and badar should be batting at 4 seems like they dont no what the best line up is

If you want to see some truly shambolic death overs bowling and fielding - watch Southern Punjab's last three overs vs Balochistan today.

Full tosses from attempted yorkers, wides, overrunning the ball in the deep, allowing Balochistan to post 230. Why were Talat and Bhatti bowling at the death ?

I know Abdul Rehman had some success with Peshawar back in the day, but I'm sorry this has been a woeful start to the National T20 Cup as SP face four defeats from four. Trying to copy Multan Sultans formula but without the overseas players.

They have not picked a guy of Dilbar's potential in the first xi squad so that legends like Rahat and Bhatti can showcase their pedigree.
Shambolic to say the least.

It's a three way fight for the fourth semi final place !

Southern Punjab need to hammer Balochistan to qualify on NRR; Balochistan need to beat Southern Punjab; Central Punjab need Southern Punjab to beat Balochistan and hope they have a better NRR.

My guts feeling If southern qualify for semis they will win the tournament. They are like Pakistan team who are very dangerous when have momentum on their side
