What's new

Sri Lanka (227/7) defeat India (225 all out) by 3 wickets to earn a consolation win in 3rd ODI

Honestly not that impressed with the indian back up apart from a couple of cricketers.
They all do the basics well though. The system has inproved but ive seen much more talented indian youngsters in the last couple of decades.

One more wicket and India will win this game. Big drop by Shaw :(

Oh dear! Shaw is still such a poor fielder. Everytime drops a couple of catches.

Considering this team mainly comprises of youngsters, fielding leaves a lot to be desired.

Hope so. He isn't good enough for international standard, may look good in IPL though. That's where he needs to ply his trade.

He has been awful in IPL too. Averages 30 at a mediocre S/R of 121. Not good enough batsman for international cricket or anything with equivalent standard of that.

That is because 20 odd them are already in England. Talent pool doesn’t mean that no.40 in the pecking order has to be as good as Kohli or Rohit. Anyways I guess you are nitpicking just for the sake of it.

The khushi on mickey's face tells the whole story. Sri Lanka have finally won their second odi world cup. :inti

You know for all the talk around India's C team playing Sri Lanka, this isn't exactly Sri Lanka's first team either.

Gunathilaka and Mendis are being punished. While Karunaratne, Chandimal, Mathews are embroiled in a vicious contract dispute with their board.

That leaves behind DDS, Hasaranga and Shanaka.

That said, I question if Sri Lanka would have won the series even with those guys in the team lol.

Poor Mickey has gone from celebrating test series wins in England and Australia to celebrating a dead-rubber ODI win against India's third string side.

A famous victory for Sri Lanka! This is like Afghanistan or Ireland winning a game vs India!

Man, the 2nd ODI defeat has got to sting a little bit more for Mickey Arthur now🤣

Could’ve been a 2-1 series win vs India🤣

Congrats to SL

Not too dissapointed with 5 debutants playing.

Rahul Chahar was impressive

I think India wouldn't have made so many changes if we lost 2nd ODI.

Both the young teams did decently in the series. I think presence of experienced players like Dhawan and Bhuvi on the field helped India and Srl really needs atleast couple of their experienced guys back. If Srl wouldnt have choked the 2nd ODI, they could have had a chance to win the series.

Sri Lanka won valuable ICC Cricket World Cup Super League points with a three-wicket DLS method victory in the final ODI against India in Colombo.

In a match that was reduced to a 47-overs-a-side encounter due to a spell of rain, Sri Lanka bowled India out for 225 in 43.1 overs, Akila Dananjaya and Praveen Jayawickrama taking three wickets apiece.

The total was quickly whittled down by the Sri Lankan top order, with Avishka Fernando and Bhanuka Rajapaksa scoring half-centuries.

Despite the result, India won the series 2-1, but it did represent valuable ICC CWCSL points for Sri Lanka, who moved up 11th position in the standings with 22 points.

India opted to bat, but lost Shikhar Dhawan early, the left-hand opener being caught behind off Dushmantha Chameera for 13. Despite that, Prithvi Shaw and Sanju Samson, playing his first ODI, propelled the innings with a 74-run stand for the second wicket.

India crossed the 100-run mark within 16 overs, but then suffered the quick dismissals of both Shaw and Samson. Shaw was trapped in front by Dasun Shanaka for 49, and Samson became Jayawickrama’s first ODI wicket, falling for 46.

Suryakumar Yadav and Manish Pandey led India’s recovery, taking them to 157/3, but a rain-enforced break shattered their momentum. On resumption – the match was now a 47-overs-a-side affair – India encountered a slide.

From 157/3, India fell to 195/8 – all of Pandey (11), Hardik Pandya (19), Nitish Rana (7), K Gowtham (2) fell for lowly scores, while the dismissal of Suryakumar, for a 37-ball 40, proved a crucial blow.

The Indian batsmen, both experienced and rookies, didn’t have an answer to the webs spun by Jayawickrama and Dananjaya, and it needed a late, gritty 29-run partnership between Rahul Chahar and Navdeep Saini to push the total to respectability.

However, it proved no match against Sri Lanka’s batsmen, who were raring to mow it down. India snared Minod Bhanuka early, Gowtham claiming his maiden international wicket, but they had little joy thereafter.

Fernando and Rajapaksa brought up their half-centuries within minutes of each other, with the latter in particularly aggressive mood. That aggression caused his eventual downfall, however, when he flicked one off Chetan Sakariya, the debutant left-arm medium pacer, and Gowtham held on to an excellent catch.

At that point, Sri Lanka still needed 79 runs from 23 overs, with eight wickets in hand. Fernando carried on, sealing up one end and scoring a 98-ball 76. But India had joy at the other, where Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, and Dasun Shanaka were dismissed for low scores.

All the while, Fernando had pushed the total towards the target. He eventually fell to Rahul Chahar with 14 runs still needed. Sri Lanka's slide continued thereafter – the home side lost seven wickets on the day – but they had done enough to secure victory. For India, it was a case of too little too late.

This was no way near the top Indian side. For what it's worth well played Sri Lanka for defeating a team made of players struggling to get in to India's top eleven. Mind you, these Sri Lankan and Indian sides would hammer us with their eyes closed.

This wasn't Sri Lanka's best team either. :inti

Congrats to Srilanka for pulling back one game. Looked very focussed today. 5 Indian debutantes started with a loss in career, but future is bright .. well played

Even with 5 debutantes we could have won. However we dropped 4 catches in this game, no wonder we lost.
