Sri Lanka (82/3) beat India (81/8) by 7 wickets in the 3rd T20 at Colombo & win the series 2-1

In Dravid's defense, this is not even a Indian B-Team. This is more like a C or D team. The B-Team got Covid. :asif

To be honest its not Srl's main team as well. Their main players (Karunaratne, Mathews, Chadmial, Lakmal, Thirimanne, Thisara Parera) have dispute with the board while other three (Mendis, Gunathalika, Dickwella) are banned due to covid violations. Even Kusal Parera got injurd.

However, without a doubt Indian team had a setback due to covid as well during the tour.

Really disappointed by seeing the performance of young Indian players. Most are mediocre level talent ,nothing special so far. The captaincy of dhawan is very poor. Rahul Dravid as a coach is very over rated. He was a poor captain and equally poor coach. He is good to improve technique of batsman but very defensive coach. Very very poor as a tactician. Ravi Shastri is a great motivator and aggrisive coach.

Dravid was a very good test captain and a decent ODI captain (the WC’07 was a blot though)

Agree but we are playing with 6 bowlers due to covid.

Happy Birthday to Hasaranga.

He has the mentality of a player that belongs to the great Pakistan T20 team of 2009.

You know where did India lost this series. It was when Rahul Chahar was celebrating like a sore loser after getting Hasaranga's wicket yesterday and he just showed with smile that he has already sealed the fate of the series with performance in that game.

And many franchise are showing interest to pick him in upcoming IPL.
Rahul Chahar also performed well.

Do you seriously expect these fans to know about players like Dickwella, Mendis and Gunathalika when they don't even know who Babar Azam is? They are assigning letters from C-Z to India but forgot completely that Sri Lanka is also not playing their full strength. Sri Lanka which isn't a top team these days is already pretty weak. :inti

Not too disappointed with this loss tbh..

Dhawan got exposed as a t20 batter.

Hack samson might have played his last game.

Rana's mediocrity got exposed..

Sakaria might never get picked in an Indian provisional squad..

And it's against Sri Lanka, who are a likeable bunch. Hope they build on this win.

Please stop generalizing.
You can mention as 'some fans' rather than pulling everyone in to your list.

Nobody is generalizing. Perhaps you should read that post again and try to understand the context behind the word these fans. Didn't see you complaining when some fans here generalize all the indian fans and try to present their opinion as the opinion of all fans? :inti

But the same 'hack Samson' and 'mediocre Rana' bat like Bradman in IPL...every year

Both of them were on debut and failed but that does not mean they are not cut out for international cricket especially sanju Samson whose stroke play is breath taking to watch as as an avid fan

People are as usual getting carried away. There is nothing to see from this loss apart from the fact that some youngsters are not yet ready.

22 main Indian players are in England and we have scratched the barrel to put together a team for this SL tour. Even from that 9 of its key players couldnt play due to covid. So we were forced to play a team where Bhuvi was batting at 6 and Sakaria and Sandeep Warrior was opening the bowling.

People's reaction of a (rare) Indian series loss is normal but as an Indian fan I would not worry much.

Real game starts next thuraday against England :srini

Its indians who come here and boast about squad depth and seemed to be implying this series would be a cakewalk but both ODI and T20 series did not turn out that way. Pandya says they can field 2 more teams. So this seems like a conversations indians should have with themselves.

What kind of a sorry bunch did India just field? Where's the next gen? Are they all in Eng too?

So much for the "we can field multiple world class teams". What a dud performance.

A bunch that got outclassed on debut but such things happens and you cannot judge a player based on one or two performances...

Wanindu Hasaranga came up with a stunning performance with the ball on his birthday, with his figures of 4/9 helping the hosts clinch a 2-1 series victory over India in Colombo.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, India got off to the worst possible start as skipper Shikhar Dhawan departed in the first over of the match. This put an already shallow batting line-up under further pressure and the visitors simply could not recover from the blow of losing their most experienced campaigner early on.

Devdutt Padikkal, playing his second T20I would depart soon after, being run-out on 9. A double-strike in the fifth over by Hasaranga would get the wickets of Sanju Samson (0) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (14), as the visitors found themselves stuttering at 25/4.

With the lower-order already exposed, India failed to inject any sort of momentum into their innings as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals on a slow and low wicket in Colombo. Their task was made even tougher with the brilliant fielding efforts of the Sri Lankans, who were charged up, clearly sniffing a series victory. This was highlighted by the brilliant caught and bowled by skipper Dasun Shanaka to get the scalp of Nitish Rana.

The spinners put the choke on in the middle overs, as India only managed to end up with a paltry total of 81/8 in their quota of 20 overs.

In reply, the visitors got off to a steady start, with Avishka Fernando and Binod Bhanuka laying down the platform for the chase. But the introduction of leggie Rahul Chahar into the attack gave India a glimmer of hope.

He first dismissed Fernando (12) with a caught and bowled and then followed it up by trapping his opening partner Bhanuka (18) in front of the stumps. Chahar would then come up with a peach of a delivery, bowling Sadeera Samarawickrama for 6 in the final ball of his spell. Yet, on 56/3, the hosts still found themselves in a relatively comfortable position.

Dhananjaya de Silva (23*) and Hasaranga (14*) ensured that there were no further hurdles for Sri Lanka, as they sealed a comfortable 7-wicket victory with 33 balls to spare to clinch the series with a 2-1 margin.

Colombo: Rahul Dravid, India's head coach for the Sri Lanka tour, has said wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson would be disappointed with the way he performed in the white-ball series.

Wanindu Hasaranga's four-wicket haul and Dhananjaya de Silva's unbeaten 23-run knock helped Sri Lanka defeat India by seven wickets in the third and final T20I. With this win, Sri Lanka won the series 2-1.

In the one ODI, Samson managed to score 46, while in the three T20Is, the right-handed batsman managed to score just 34 runs.

"I think, to be honest, not the easiest of the conditions to bat in for Sanju as well. Obviously, in the one ODI game, he got a chance in, he got off to a good start and he scored 46. But in the T20Is, probably, batting well in the first one, the wickets in the last two T20Is have been challenging. But yeah, I guess he will look back at this series and be a little disappointed. Having said that, not only Sanju, we need to be patient with these talented kids," said Dravid while replying to an ANI query during a virtual post-match press conference.

Earlier, Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga showed remarkable skills with the ball as the Indian batting line-up was restricted to a mediocre 81/8 in the allotted twenty overs. After being eight down for 63, Chetan Sakariya and Kuldeep Yadav ensured the visitors got over the 80-run mark.

"Today, to be honest, we did not bat really well and Wanindu Hasaranga upfront was exceptional, he has been exceptional right through the series, we just lost too many wickets and 81 was never going to be good enough. Sometimes in challenging conditions, you need to fight your way and make it to 130-140. I think that has been great learning for our young players," said Dravid.

Talking about the challenges of being in quarantine in Sri Lanka, Dravid said: "It has not been easy. We only played six matches in 45 days. For a variety of reasons, initially, some of the Sri Lanka players picked up COVID-19 so the series got postponed. It has been challenging, the boys have been under quarantine and bubbles. We have only seen the hotel, the ground, and even the hotel, only some parts of it, we have not been able to go to some parts of the hotel. Just a credit to the boys on how they maintained their spirit and enthusiasm."

"I cannot fault anyone for their effort. Just the way, Shikhar and Bhuvneshwar created the environment they did, deserves a lot of credit as well. You cannot fault them for their effort and energy. It was not an easy situation to be in, we are lucky to play cricket as well in times like these. We have seen people go through a lot of suffering, we feel blessed to do what we do," he added.

They lost a 3 match series, i would have understood however Hardik Pandya boldly claimed India could field 2 teams who could win multiple trophies, im yet to see a trophy of substance from either?

Legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal and allrounder Krishnappa Gowtham have reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus and will stay back in Colombo even as the remaining India squad returns home after the conclusion of the T20I series which Sri Lanka won 2-1 on Thursday night.

Chahal and Gowtham are part of the eight India squad members who were deemed to be close contacts of allrounder Krunal Pandya who had tested positive for the deadly virus on July 27 following which the 2nd T20I was postponed by a day. Krunal was immediately moved to an isolation facility after being tested positive for the covid-19

The other six cricketers are Hardik Pandya, Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Manish Pandey, Deepak Chahar and Ishan Kishan. The eight along with Krunal will be staying back in Colombo as per the guidelines of Sri Lankan government wherein covid positive individuals cannot leave the country unless they have undergone isolation for 10 days and cleared fresh series of tests.

“Yes, only Krunal will have to stay back in Sri Lanka for the time being due to the mandatory isolation period of one week," a senior BCCI official told PTI.

“After one week, if he has two negative RT-PCR reports, he will be allowed to fly back. Currently he is in the fourth day of his isolation. All others are free to depart as they have all tested negative," he added.

The eight cricketers along with Chahal and Gowtham continued to stay in the team hotel but separately. After Krunal’s positive test, India fielded a vastly different team for the second T20I giving debut to as many as four cricketers with net bowlers also added to the first-team squad as the tourists struggled to put together a playing XI.

A depleted India went on to lose the second T20I and then suffered another defeat in the series-deciding final contest on Friday night.

India were already touring with a young squad in the absence of several first-choice cricketers including captain Virat Kohli as they were in England for a five-match Test series starting from August 4.

The India squad in England has been hit by injuries with Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan (stand-by) ruled out of the entire tour. India have named Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav as their replacements and the duo is set to fly to England in the coming days

Yeah, if you make dumb decisions like handing debut to almost the entire bunch while making silly statements like the one that Pandiya made, it's totally fair to judge.
