All about prep for the World Cup now it seems!

Indian squad announced for T20Is against Sri Lanka

Virat Kohli (C), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur, Manish Pandey, Washington Sundar, Sanju Samson.

The Men In Blue will kick-off the proceedings in Guwahati against Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series, starting from January 5.
The second and the third T20Is will be played on January 7 and 10 respectively.

Jasprit Bumrah returns, Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami rested for the T20I series against Sri Lanka. #INDvSL

There was no reason for Kohli to play this series.

He would get enough game time in NZ , where we're playing 5 T20s.

Jadeja, Thakur and Dhawan should be nowhere near our T20 team.

That innings against WI did world of good for Thakur as its always handy to have someone at no 8 who can bat and hit a few. When Pandya comes back in or when Dube is gonna play Thakur might be making way for a proper spinner or a seamer unless he makes his mark as a bowler.

There was no need for Jadeja and Dhawan as some youngsters could have been tried in their place but then again no team management wants to loose matches and are willing to take only as much of a risk which they think wont harm their chances much.

Gill and Shaw should be involved in Indian setup soon in atleast one format, I think this might happen post T20 WC. In bowling unfortunately there arent that many pacers putting their hands up. Saini is decent but still needs to learn a lot while Deepak Chahar looked pretty decent before the unfortunate injury.

1st match in Guwahati, Assam??

Guwahati of Northeast state Assam is the central point of recent CAA, NRC protests ..

Harbhajan Singh accused national cricket team selectors of being biased after they overlooked Suryakumar Yadav for selection in either of the three India squads they announced on Monday. The MSK Prasad-led selection panel named India's squads for upcoming bilateral series against Sri Lanka and Australia, and the India A squad for the tour of New Zealand. Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh, who has publicly criticised the national selectors time and again, slammed the committee, claiming that it has "different rules for different players".

"I keep wondering what's wrong @surya_14kumar have done? Apart from scoring runs like others who keep getting picked for Team India, India A and India B. Why different rules for different players?" Harbhajan tweeted on Tuesday.

In November, Harbhajan had taken a jibe at national selectors for dropping wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson from the squad for the series against the West Indies.

The 39-year-old off-spinner had expressed his disappointment with the current selection panel in reply to a tweet posted by Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor.

"Very disappointed to see @IamSanjuSamson dropped without a chance. He carried the drinks for three T20Is and has been promptly discarded. Are they testing his batting or his heart?" Tharoor had tweeted.

Mumbai-based batsman Suryakumar Yadav has scored 4,920 runs in 73 first-class matches.

Angelo Mathews recalled to Sri Lanka squad for India T20Is

Sri Lanka have recalled former captain Angelo Mathews to their T20I squad for their three-match series in India.

Mathews last played an international game in the shortest format in August 2018, but with the T20 World Cup around the corner, and Lasith Malinga’s side having had mixed fortunes of late, Sri Lanka have opted to bring back an experienced head.

Fast bowler Nuwan Pradeep is yet to cover from injury and has been replaced by fellow quick Kasun Rajitha.

Sri Lanka come into the series off the back of successive whitewashes – albeit one went in their favour and one went against them. They beat Pakistan, the world’s No.1 ranked side, 3-0 in Pakistan, before travelling to Australia and getting beaten by the same margin.

Their series against India begins on 5 January at Guwahati.

Squad: Lasith Malinga (c), Danushka Gunathilaka, Avishka Fernando, Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka, Kusal Janith Perera, Niroshan Dickwella, Dhananjaya De Silva, Isuru Udana, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Oshada Fernando, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lahiru Kumara, Kusal Mendis, Lakshan Sandakan

Lasith Malinga said Sunday he was ready to stand down as Sri Lanka’s Twenty20 skipper after the team’s humiliating 2-0 loss to India in their latest foreign tour. Returning from the series, the 36-year-old told reporters that Sri Lanka was just not good enough to make an impact in the 20 over game.

He said Sri Lankan bowlers weren’t able to restrict opponents while the batsmen were incapable of putting up the 170 runs needed for a fighting chance in a match.

“We don’t have that,” Malinga said, adding that it was unfair to expect a winning performance from the team given they were ranked just ninth in the world when returned to the captaincy just over a year ago.

But he added that he was “ready to accept” his responsibility for the team’s performance.

“I am ready any time. I am ready to quit,” he said.

Malinga led Sri Lanka to the T20 World Cup title in 2014 and remained in charge until early 2016.

His return to the top job in December 2018 was a surprise as he had lost his spot in the team after recurring injuries forced him to sit out several tournaments.

Frictions were evident in the Sri Lankan team under Malinga’s leadership, the Sunday Island newspaper reported.

“There seems to be deep divisions in the side. As captain, he has also sidelined his predecessors” including Thisara Perera and Angelo Mathews, the paper said.

The first match in Guwahati was abandoned after rain, but India won the second by India by seven wickets and the third by 78 runs.
