Usman Wahla, PCB Director – International Cricket: We are delighted to welcome the Sri Lanka U19 team to Pakistan for this exciting bilateral series. The series will provide an excellent platform for young talent to showcase their skills and gain an invaluable experience ahead of next year’s ICC U19 World Cup. Our U19 team has played some exceptional game of cricket recently and the series at home showcases the board’s vision of nurturing young talent and providing opportunities to future stars of Pakistan cricket. I wish luck to both young teams, and may the matches be played in a spirit of camaraderie.

Good to see but when will have England Lions or Aussie U19s? Seems we are just playing Asian teams

Good announcement. Hopefully we will see some really good youngsters in this series who can then be selected in the emerging category of the PSL as well

These tours are certainly a great help in developing the young players. It would be better if there are multiple four-day games in the tour.

Sri Lanka's Under-19 team is visiting Pakistan despite raised security concerns these days showing that Sri Lanka's support and commitment is always there to boost Pakistan Cricket.

The young batsman (Name?) that we saw in the U19 Franchise tournament is missing. He looked like a guy that could go places. Amir Hassan has beautiful bowling action

IIRC, that was Basit Ali & Tahhir Arif or something like that. A few other standout batsmen from PJL are missing too. Who knows, maybe these players are excelling in the ongoing U-19 tournament but its difficult to track young prospects in Pakistan. So many of them just randomly disappear.

BTW Ahmed Khan the opening bowler from last year U19 worldcup is playing as a batsmen in Hanif Muhammad Trophy and scoring runs as well lol , seriously he is just bowling 2/3 overs per innings as a 6th bowler.

Iftikhar Ahmed and Iqbal Sheikh, both part of PCB Elite Panel of Match Referees will lead the playing control team in the six-match series between Pakistan U19 and Sri Lanka U19 in Karachi from 15 to 31 October.

No notable pacers this time around but both openers are very classy and aggressive and spinner Ali Asfand is also attacking spinner who can actually turn the ball, so players to look out this U19 worldcup are
Shahzaib Khan
Azan Awais
Ali Asfand

Makes no sense to drop Azan Awais and select Shamyl Hussain, the guy is scoring centuries in every format he is playing and has a baby face so not overage as well , Aimal khan dropped as well which again makes no sense as he is the only bowler who can touch 140k among all trundlers. These two omission are baffling indeed.

Lol they dropped Ali Asfand as well , the only spinner who can actually turn the ball , seriously what is going on???

I said earlier to keep eye on these 3 players , Ali Asfand , Azan Awais and Shahzaib Khan and wow two of them have been dropped

Reflecting on the changes in the side for the one-day series, Saad said, “The combination of the team is still intact as all of us have been playing domestic cricket together. Our focus is on winning the games ahead.”

Talking about his captaincy tenure over the past year, Saad explained, “The team has been performing well and we have had success during the Bangladesh tour where we won the series in all three formats. We have won the four-day comprehensively as well. So it gives me hope that we will continue to do well.”

Sineth Jayawardene, the touring captain, explained that his team is looking to bounce back after losing the four-day. “I think it is a different format, I know the boys will do well in the one-day games as we are here to win the series,” he told PCB.

“I think the boys are in a good position. The hopes and expectations [in the camp] are high,” he added, “We will do our best. These matches are really important for us. Pakistan are a great side so getting the opportunity to face them [ahead of the World Cup] is good for us as well.”

Ararat Minhas is such an rarity. Rare to see a Pakistan batsman who is not a statpaddder.

His average and SR is incredible at this level. He should be playing regular domestic cricket.

Agreed and I think it's the consistency of which we are seeing him stand out with. It's been multiple tournaments now like PJL, emerging, U-19 etc and it's clear, out of his team, he is the standout guy. Seems to be decent at bowling too.

Hopefully he will get a proper chance in PSL to showcase himself.

You don't rate him @Muhammad Saad ?

BTw why are still producing darters in the name of spin
Another guy in the 5 9 category will make no difference. We need tall bowlers or some incredibly skilled bowlers. We have neither.
he is more than 5.9 but definitely not 140k I dunno where you guys got that from

He is around 6ft and taller than all his U19 teammates, probably the 2nd or 3rd most tallest guy in this U19 batch.

He was bowling 125k on avg and was slower than all the PJL bowlers so despite being selected he didn’t get a single game but now he has increased his pace by 7/8ks and that is the only reason I am interested in him because he can get more quicker by the age and it’s in his gene to develop fast bowling muscles.

Same thing happened with Musa Khan he was bowling in mid 120ks when he was 17 and two years later he clocked 150k

That is another story but Ubaid seems to have control as he didn’t bowl a single wide where as Ibtisam bowled 10 in the same match.

Ibtisam Huff and puff at the crease thinking he will bowl 150k every time but bowls a 130k thunderbolt

There was a lad with a beautiful bowling( a bit like Dion Nash from Nz) action, an action that was natural but I see no sign of him. I haven't followed closely but none of these guys look like future PK bowlers.

Yep not a single bowler in this U19 batch looked good enough , spinners with no turn , pace bowlers with no pace or height

Ubaid also currently only a trundler but do have fast bowling genes in him so let see in future.

Arafat Minhas is the only decent product from this batch

Shahzaib Khan and Azan Awais also good but no bowlers here
We have decent options in opening department. We need a quality middle order batsman who is consistent yet plays at the decent SR. I'm going to monitor his progress, could be an ideal no 6 for Pakistan in ODIs

Pakistan U19 head coach Shahid Anwar reviews performance against Sri Lanka U19.

Sri Lanka U19 completed their tour of Pakistan on Tuesday, after winning the final one-day played at National Bank Stadium, Karachi. The tour consisted of a solitary four-day match and a five-match one-day series.

Pakistan U19 began the series on a winning note after registering a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over the visitors in the four-day match. Left-handed opening batter Shahzaib Khan was the most impressive batter in the red-ball game, scoring 161 in the first innings and dispatching 12 boundaries and one six. He was duly named player of the match for his effort.

Azan Awais also produced a century in the game and amassed 104 in the first innings. Right-arm pacer Mohammad Ibtisam was the pick of the bowlers as he returned five wickets. Fast bowler Aimal Khan had four wickets while spinners Ali Asfand and Naveed Ahmed Khan got three wickets apiece.

Although Pakistan U19 eventually conceded the series 3-2 to Sri Lanka U19, the competition remained fierce with the series hanging in balance ahead of the last one-day. The Pakistan team showcased noteworthy individual and collective performances.

Left-handed opener Shamyl Hussain was the highest scorer for either side over the course of the series. He accumulated 326 runs at an average of 65.20 including one century and two half-centuries. Shamyl’s highest score of the series came in the third one-day where he smashed 150 off 109 balls with 13 fours and seven sixes.

All-rounder Arafat Minhas had a series to remember. He was the second-best batter, managing 272 runs which came from three half-centuries, including a match-winning knock of 95. He also grabbed five wickets in the series.

Pakistan’s right-arm pacers Ubaid Shah and Aftab Ahmed were prolific in the series. Ubaid was the joint-highest wicket-taker of the series, accounting for nine wickets at an average of 21.67 in four games. Aftab grabbed eight wickets at an average of 17.63 in four matches. Ibtisam got seven wickets in five games as well.

In the spin bowling department, off-spinner Naveed Ahmed Khan picked up seven wickets in five matches while leg-spinner Ahmed Hussain had six scalps to his name.

Head coach Pakistan U19 Shahid Anwar, reviewing the series, said: “It was a remarkable opportunity for the boys and they have taken a lot of positives from that. While it was disappointing to lose the one-day series and we could have done better, it is noteworthy that the best bowler and the best batter of the series were both from our side.

“The upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup were on our radar so we gave chances and played various combinations so that we can experiment and understand our best combination before we go to Dubai and Sri Lanka for these assignments.

“Shamyl has proved himself as a solid opener and Arafat outclassed throughout the series. Captain Saad Baig displayed impressive captaincy as well. Ubaid was amazing with the ball too. All of these boys are really skillful. They just require more exposure and more game time to gel together.

“We have assessed our fielding thoroughly. We had made some lapses in the field in the first couple of games but there was a lot of improvement. Our middle-order and lower-order need more work and that is what we will focus on when we hold the next training camps.

“We are committed to working on the shortcomings but there have been a lot of positives to look at, despite the loss.”
