Hackusal drops Kohli . Should have let Chandimal keep. The missed catch, costs 5 runs as the ball hits the helmet.

When Rahul was dropped in the last game, he went on to score a century.

Loving these pitches from Sri Lanka. They've made all the recent test matches really interesting.

Rahul was supposed to be great player of seam/swing according to his supporters. More and more games that I have seen him play, he looks increasingly similar to our past great openers shib sundar das, vikram rathore and devang Gandhi (resurrected).

Wearing Beats headphone and I can hear the rain sound in HD, very impressed.

More of an edgy starter than any apparent weakness against seam/swing.

Paytm 'A' series: India 'A' (417-8 dec) beat SA 'A' (260 & 76-9) by an innings and 81 runs.

All Nuwan Pradeep fans must be utterly distraught that his career average has fallen below 50 for the first time in his career.

He is a 50+ candidate though it will go up.

What's wrong with SL upcoming pacers? Either they are too raw or too Indian.

Kohli's penchant for fishing outside off-stump (ala gambhir) is once again plays the Achilles heel for him.

This batting approach of Indian team looks eerily similar to the one in the 1st test 2nd inning (albeit this time against pacers).

With the kind of edginess that he displays game after game (though it's a limited sample), he will be a sitting duck even on a flat deck against half decent pacers (let alone the track where the ball swings/seams like it is doing here in SSC) while opening the inning. It seems he need to be given at least 2 lives in a inning, for him to build a bigger score (both his hundreds came after few reprieves) .

That ball was a peach though.

That ball was a peach though.

It was a pretty good delivery, I agree but being a opener facing the 1st over (2nd ball to be precise) of a test match, he should not be leaving good length/incoming deliveries (especially when he has no knowledge of what kind of bounce/swing/seam that pitch offers). This was pure tentativeness more than anything else.

Three back to back fours from Pujara. He is a natural #3, the sooner his idiotic captain understands that the better.

Happy for Pujara, showing his caliber on this difficult surface. Good test cricket this.

Great now Pujara will get another chance, once we tour Aus again he will be a shooting duck.

lol...

Pujara DESERVES a chance ahead of many others.

Pujara even when out of form eats up atleats 50 balls and takes the shine off.

I think the break served right for Pujara. He needed that kick to set things right. The old grit is back in his batting.

We are in danger of getting all out under 150 here. Whether it is facing spin/pace, our batsmen are just not Test quality, these days.

One thing is for sure pujara has temperament for test cricket, technique can be corrected.

Lol you said exactly the opposite. He has the best technique amongst all current Indian batsman but temperament wise he is behind Rahane and Kohli. Hence he gets out every time after getting a start.

Not watching the match at the moment, but what do you guys think is a good first innings score for this pitch?

I guess 300 is a good first innings score. India well short of it.

Naman Ojha looks like a 30 year old Sowmya Sarkar but bats like Thisara Perera.

Only i'd wake up at 5 Am to go to work on a Satuday. Now its Tea, seriously wth ?

SA got out bowled out for 169 in SSC before, Sanga-Mahela's 624 run partnership was also scored on that match. Dilhara picked up 4 wickets in that first inning.

Prasad and Mathews are injured wow, time to make Pradeep do all the work and get him injured as well.

Prasad has turned into a really handy seamer over the last couple of years. Will be a big loss.

This is a relaid pitch. Cant really say anything about this one.

There was never a problem with his temperament. There were/are some flaws in his technique. But even then he gritted around for the 30s-40s

Good to see my boy Che do well

Happy for him!

The pitch seems to have flattened considerably. It will become a road by the time SL bat.

5 wicket hauls by Ashwin and Mishra on the cards.

What a turnaround this has been, for us! At one stage it looked as if we won't get past 200. Possibly a career saving inning this from Pujara and not to forget superb support he got from Mishraji (pitch also appears to have eased up a little). These two gotta score as many runs as possible now. A 1st inning score in excess of 300 will be very handy on this track.

Superb innings from Pujara, big slap in the face of India's selection policies. Must be persisted with now.

If I were Kohli. I'd ask Pujara to farm strike and take India as close to 350 as possible. And then try and bowl out SL around 240-260. Even a 70-80 run lead on this pitch is potentially a match winning one.

Ishant is going to be handful on this pitch and if Yadav supports him well enough they can wreck the SL top order. Binny will come into the picture as well, its the kind of wicket that will suit his bowling.

280 or thereabouts would be enough in last innings with Ashwin and Mishra on this pitch.

Even though Sri Lanka have gone weaker, they still have the fighting spirit. Still a tough team in all forms despite the loss of their legends.

I think India have just about enough to take a lead already. I'm not confident in the Sri Lankan batting, it has been dominated by the spinners all series. Only Mathews has shown any consistent resistance.
