Was once a promising bowler....then changed his action, never looked the same....came back bowled a few good spells here and there but was never as good as he was with his old action.

It is safe to say his career is done and dusted.

Not really. He is supposedly carrying a injury. Should not have been selected. Feel for him.

He is looking toothless since his comeback...yeah 1 good spell here and there but today he looks really below average especially in the English side that seem to have a lot of good fast bowling resources

With Mark Wood,Ben Stokes and Anderson's comeback, seems to be curtains for him

He was superb in SA series against the likes of AB and Amla and co.

Lol he was brilliant in SA not too long ago

He is the White Ishant Sharma

Victim of too much hype in his younger years. There's no comeback for him.

Rich man's version of Ishant Sharma.

Shame he's not doing good, he went to the same school I attend (Parmiter's School)

he doesn't look like the bowler he was back when he burst onto the scene he was someone who could touch 90mph and was a genuine wicket taker but now he seems a lesser force. But I wouldn't write him off completely he could still have a good international career

Feel for him, nothing went right today. His run-up, his rhythm, his confidence all poor.

He's rather un-English as a bowler. He's not an Anderson/Broad-esque line and length seamer and certainly doesn't have their consistency but lethal on his day.

I wonder how he'd have developed in a country with a big bowling culture like Pakistan.

No, but he will be dropped as soon as Anderson and Stokes return.

It's frustrating because he has the capacity to be another Bob Willis, but his action looks wrong these days.

Also they should give him the new ball, not to a noob.

Might have bowled poorly today but he still has a better Test record than any Pakistani fast bowler in the opposition.

Turning into another Harmison.

Lots of talent, so will perform to a world-class standard on occasion, however so frequently prone to useless bowling and mental capitulation that he becomes an overall liability to select.

Finn is lanky just as Harmisson was, perhaps their body type has something to do with it. They are not compact and their actions are not the most simple , repetitive ones.

I hope he does return because like Harmisson was if the gets it right, a real handful esp on bouncy pitches.

I watched Finn and Woakes against PK U19 at Leicester in 2007 and Woakes looked ordinary and Finn looked special. But we have come virtually full circle and i agree with what everyone is saying about his lack of consistency in his action and a propensity to misfire very frequently.

Not Finns fault Misbah manhandled him.

Was just facing too much quality and having a bad day.

Can come back strongly.

I like Misbah as well, but you take it to an extreme. :91:

You've been banging on earlier about taking the new ball away from Anderson and giving it to Finn. I know you think Finn is the next big thing, but he's like Anderson early in his career. I don't think he can make good use of the new ball, he doesn't treat the ball with the respect that the others quite do. On song when he's confident and in rhythm, useless otherwise. Right now, there's no one quite the quality of Broad and Anderson, Woakes is acceptable but Finn needs to go. And having Stokes back for his swing or Mark Wood back for his speed is something I'd much value over Finn.

If you look at his body language; he looks like a depressing figure. Dont know whats going on his mind. However, this thread is knee jerk. The lad is immensely talented and would get out of this bad patch soon.

Perhaps you didn't see the younger Finn bowling at 90 mph with steepling bounce. His confidence has gone due to bad coaching and tinkering with his action, which looks all wrong now.

Did you feel good about Misbah scoring a ton as an Eng fan?

May need to be pulled out of the firing line. Too much messing with his action, not encouraging him to bowl fast hasn't also helped. But when he's off it he drops his pace down.

I have, and I didn't place much in it. Everyone looks exciting when they bring something new and are picked because they're in good form and finally doing something right. But then, Finn's never been consistent, at his peak he's amazing, but on average he is not.

NOW or Never for Finn!!!!!
Would he crumble under pressure or will he response once again with the ball like he did against Aus in 2015 at the similar ground!!!
Career on the line for Finn !!!
I am very nervous about it, it is very much possible he run through our batting

his pace was up today and he did bowl some good deliveries just the luck didn't go for him.

We already have an unlucky bowler in world cricket bowling a lot of jaffas but inflating his average....the world is not ready for another one :))

Mark Wood is back and looking good for Durham.

I imagine he's seriously threatening for Finn's place once again.

People once said the same about Mitchell Johnson

Overreaction, still young, hasn't bowled that poorly, luck just hasn't been in his favor.

What has that got to do with Finn?

He looked better yesterday - pacier and more rhythmic. But like all the England bowlers he pitched too short. Another catch went down off his bowling. He's just in a bad run at present.

Not related.

I asked in the first match, where Misbah was being praised by everyone including the English media/journalists.

So, maybe as our well-wisher you didn't mind him scoring. :najam

I thought that Finn was the best England bowler in this match. He was cutting and reversing it at pace. Just didn't get wickets.

As a Pakistani fan, I would be happy if Finn is the playing eleven at the oval as well.

Tbh still not impressed

He gives too many boundary balls which is golden for a team like Pakistan

Broad and Anderson and Woakes are on you with pressure even when not taking wickets

Was clutch in the final innings, let's see if he improves. First time in the series he looked threatening.

Absolutely Spot On.

Hope we target him & Moeen at Oval.

England understand what they have with finn. Today he showed big glimpses. He will get plenty of rope.
Like Jimmy did from 03 to 08 when he used to go at 4 and a half an over in tests and 6 and a half in odis with the odd special performance. They knew what they had in Jimmy and they kept him involved even when his output was averages. Then he just turned into a beast. That could happen to finn too
From our point of view lets hope that happens to Rahat;)

He isn't a quality bowler yet.. Won't be effective in Asia/ Australia atm

Middlesex bowler Steven Finn admits an England recall is not in his thoughts ahead of the start of the Vitality Blast on Thursday. The 31-year-old impressed in the Twenty20 competition last year, taking 19 wickets to help his side make the quarter-finals.

With two T20 World Cups coming up over the next two years, Finn, who represented his country in all formats for seven years until 2017, might have been looking to catch the eye of the selectors with a strong tournament.

But the seamer told the PA news agency: "England isn't on my radar at the moment.

"I have been out of that system for a few years now and people have naturally overtaken me and the team has done outstandingly well in both T20 and 50-over cricket.

"To kid myself to think I will be in that team and warranting a place is looking far too ahead, so I will just try and do my job for Middlesex as best as I can. I will keep trying to take wickets and keep that intent to take wickets.

"It is important in T20 cricket you don't go defensive and you keep trying to be assertive.

England isn't on my radar at the moment. To kid myself to think I will be in that team and warranting a place is looking far too ahead

"Who knows where they might take me, whether it be tournaments or anything else, but at the moment my concentration is just to do my best for Middlesex."

Finn has endured a frustrating few years since a knee injury forced him out of the 2017-18 Ashes series in Australia.

After a strong winter, the fast bowler was excited for the new campaign to begin before the coronavirus pandemic brought sport to a halt.

Middlesex head coach Stuart Law has so far overlooked Finn in the Bob Willis Trophy, but the paceman is raring to go for the start of the Vitality Blast at holders Essex.

"My body feels great actually and as good as it has done for quite a while," he said.

"I'm disappointed not to have played a part as of yet in the Bob Willis Trophy, but hopefully once the T20s come around I'll be able to get my way into the team.

"By no means do I feel like I am done with four-day cricket, I feel like I still have stuff to offer in the four-day game, but certainly this year my concentration will be on white-ball cricket.

"And again trying to get as much out of myself for the team and as much out of myself for myself over the next few weeks."

Finn and his Middlesex team-mates received a boost when the fixtures for the Vitality Blast were announced, with Lord's being used for the club's five home matches in South Group.

Saturday's match with Kent will be the first action the home of cricket has witnessed in 2020 and Finn is looking forward to returning, even without a crowd.

"Lord's is Lord's isn't it? Even to turn up to it empty it is an imposing place and it is exciting to be able to play and train there," Finn said.

"I think is a great thing for us. It allows us to have an identity, we know we are playing our five home matches at the same ground and it gives us an opportunity to try and make it a fortress when it comes to developing a game plan around the dimensions of the ground."

While Finn may not be anticipating an England recall any time soon, a strong tournament could open the door for more opportunities on the T20 circuit.

He has represented Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League and would relish a chance to experience other competitions around the world.

Finn added: "Those tournaments are quite exciting, I've had a small sample of it in the Pakistan Super League twice with Islamabad United and winning it the second time around was great fun.

"Being able to be around some of the greats of the game and being able to pick their brains was really interesting, so doing more of them is something I'd definitely be interested in for the future."
