What's new

Stick to your guns, it was Sarfaraz Ahmed's first Test as captain

Fans need to be patient. The test team is actually in pretty good shape.

Yes, there have been selection blunders but the talent is there and it is clear they are nurturing it for long term success. I have full faith in Sarfaraz, and together with the management he will lead Pakistan to success.

Give it a little time, and we will start to see the benefits of this long term strategy.

Clearly comprehension abilities are lacking in your case. Shaz guy said I want Waqar back as coach and then you started cheerleading Him

In any case that doesn't matter. What the discussion was is that as far as tests are concerned Arthur is certainly a downgrade. In UAE he has been a disaster as well. Record reads 2-2 after facing two of the worst test teams along with Bangladesh. And even one of the matches we won was by skin of our teeth. Ofcourse he also holds record for longest losing streak in Pakistan history

Comprehension skills are lacking from your end my friend. I have asked you a simple question and you refuse to answer it. I haven't even said a single word about Arthur being a great coach. All I want to know who wants Waqar as a coach since he did such a good job for Pakistan in tests, surely someone so want this tactical genius as a coach.

Again poor deduction abilities

No one wants Waqar. But that doesn't matter

What matters is that Arthur's record is pathetic and he holds the distinction of leading Pakistan to most consecutive number of defeats in Pakistan's test cricket history. Even in UAE he does not have a positive record as of yet even though he has only faced #7 and #8 ranked teams in the world

Arthur has taken the team from #1 to #6 in record time. These are facts

Waqar knew what he was getting himself into when he decided to take the job AGAIN in 2014 - why didn't he demand extra powers then ?

Which international coach in any sport takes up a job for a second time, despite having a bad experience the first instance, without asking for reassurances or guarantees to avoid a repeat of the past ?

Yes Arthur deserves the leeway as he's won a 50 over ICC tournament for the first time since 1992, has blooded a raft of youngsters into the team and has prioritised a culture of fitness and professionalism (which yes Waqar also tried to do).

He is an internationally proven coach having taken South Africa to #1 in the world - now you'll say oh but he had De Villiers, Steyn, Smith, Kallis etc - to which I reply go check South Africa's record under his disastrous predecessor Ray Jennings. He was deemed good enough to be Australia's first ever foreign coach and despite some poor results did develop talents like Warner and Starc. We don't need certificates of approval from fans of a coach who had two failed tenures and was even rejected as Australia's bowling coach.

Whose this 'we'?

The Mickey Arthur cheerleader club? :))

Some making it look like it was Sarfaraz's first ever match as skipper in any format and he is 21 years old.

Ofcourse he will do well. His on-field captaincy was top notch though he needs to make better selection. Even in CT the on-field captaincy was great but selection had some issues.

Some forgetting it was his first ever match as skipper of the test team, with a relatively inexperienced team.

Totally agree and this is a rebuilding phase again for Pakistan like Australia but it is hard to fathom the inability of any players to chase 136 against the likes of Herath and another unknown spinner. This cannot be sidelined as the opposition teams will be working on this glaring-weakness while chasing any 4th innings total...

I agree on Arthur taking us to 6 from 1. but please be realistic how we got to 1 is also worth noting. Pak was no better when Arthur wasn't there. We have been so many times in similar situation when waqar was coach. It was actually the senior players who took us over the line.

Plus regarding the #7 and #8 point, it aint about ranking, it is actually about the strengths of the teams. they have very good players of spin.

This #1 was pretty much due to playing lots of series in UAE and having two batsmen who were gun in UAE conditions. Also, all other teams were playing lots of away matches at the same time so their points were deflated, otherwise you don't get to rank one with 110 points in most times. You can check historical ratings of team reaching rank 1. Anyway credit is due to previous coach because Pakistan's peak rating is 110 points.

Now pendulum was swung other way. Pakistan played lots of matches outside. Also Misbah and YK were on their last leg and eventually called it a day. Pakistan will end this SL series around 90 points. With normal scheduling and without factoring two gun batsmen for certain conditions, Pakistan will be somewhere in middle. In middle of 110 and 90 or in middle of #1 and #6.

I am not saying that Arthur has done well, but #1 and #6 situation is not as simple as putting all the blame on Aurther. Many factors are present and Aurther is just one of the factors here.

It's not all Mickeys fault but his record is getting worse and losing to Sri Lanka who are struggling themselves puts things into perspective.
