Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has accused the government of putting political considerations ahead of national security, amid rising worries over the growing pressure on the military.

His comments came after Israel’s Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, warned the cabinet that the army could face collapse due to the heavy operational burden and a worsening manpower shortage.

In an interview with Channel 12, Bennett said: “There is a political class here that is preventing the Israeli army from winning.” He added that the current leadership “does not know how to win anywhere — not in Gaza, not in Lebanon, and not in Iran.”

Bennett said the military is short of around 20,000 soldiers. He noted that about 100,000 ultra-Orthodox Jewish men of conscription age are currently fit for service, arguing that recruiting even a fifth of them would solve the problem. He added: “We have created a Haredi state here,” referring to the growing influence of the ultra-Orthodox community. Bennett called for urgent action to address the issue, including integrating Haredi Jews into the army, the labour market and the education system, as well as linking government benefits to work and service.

“Anyone who does not work should not receive a shekel, and anyone who does not serve should not receive a shekel,” he said.

Emirates Global Aluminium reports 'significant damage' from Iranian strikes

Emirates Global Aluminium said on Saturday that its Al Taweelah production base in the UAE had sustained "significant damage" during Iranian missile and drone attacks.

A number of EGA employees were injured in the attacks on the Khalifa Economic Zone in Abu Dhabi, the company said ⁠in a statement, adding that none of the injuries were life-threatening.

"The safety and security of our people is our top priority at EGA at all times," EGA CEO Abdulnasser Bin Kalban said in the statement. "We are deeply saddened and are assessing the damage to our facilities."

Most aluminium producers in the Gulf, which account for around 9% of global supply, have been unable to ship metal to world markets via their normal ‌channels ⁠since the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran began, due to the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

EGA's Al Taweelah aluminium smelter produced 1.6 million metric tons of cast metal in 2025, the statement said. The company also has an ⁠adjacent alumina refinery at Al Taweelah, which last year produced 2.4 million tons of the aluminium raw material.

EGA, which has another smelter at Jebel Ali in ⁠the emirate of Dubai, said it had substantial metal stock on the water when the conflict began and stock on the ground in ⁠some overseas locations.

Reuters reported earlier this month that the company would reroute aluminium exports and raw material imports via the Omani port of Sohar.

USS Tripoli enters West Asia combat zone with 3,500 marines​

The USS Tripoli can carry dozens of helicopters, MV-22 Osprey aircraft, and F-35B Joint Strike Fighter jets, bringing significant air and amphibious strike capability into active operations. ​

The USS Tripoli, carrying around 3,500 US Marines, has entered the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility, marking the deployment of one of America's largest amphibious assault ships into an active combat theatre in West Asia amid the ongoing conflict.

The vessel, deployed from its home base in Japan, arrived in the region on March 27, CENTCOM said in a post on X.


The America-class amphibious assault ship serves as the flagship of the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Nearly the size of an aircraft carrier, it can carry dozens of helicopters, MV-22 Osprey aircraft, and F-35B Joint Strike Fighter jets, bringing significant air and amphibious strike capability into active operations.

With this deployment, the USS Tripoli joins US nuclear-powered aircraft carriers already operating in the region, including the USS Nimitz-class and USS Gerald R Ford

The Iranian Navy vowed to strike US aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln once it is within range of coastal missiles to avenge the sinking of Iranian warship IRIS Dena, Iranian state media Press TV reported.

According to Press TV, Iran's navy commander, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, said that Iran is closely monitoring the movement of the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in real time.

"Once the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group enters its range, it will be targeted with coastal missiles to avenge the Dena martyrs. All movements and positions of the strike group, as well as its requests to regional countries, are being monitored in real time," he said.

"The eastern Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman--the gateway to the Strait and the Persian Gulf--are fully under Iranian naval control," he added.

IRIS Dena sank south of Sri Lanka on March 4 after being struck by a US submarine torpedo approximately 20 nautical miles west of Galle.

Of the estimated 180 crew members on board IRIS Dena, over 80 sailors are reported dead, while other survivors were rescued by the Sri Lankan Navy and admitted to hospitals in Galle. -- ANI

They’re clearly upset and bitter after taking such a heavy beating by pakistan last year that nobody seems to take them seriously anymore.

Instead of accepting what happened and moving on, they’ve become increasingly frustrated, defensive, and resentful because things did not go the way they expected.

Now every reaction seems driven more by anger and wounded pride than by logic, because deep down they know their image and credibility have taken a massive hit.

Israel said on Sunday that an industrial plant near Beer Sheva in the Negev desert was struck by a missile or debris, prompting a hazardous materials warning. Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reported Iranian attacks on their aluminium plants.

Israel also claimed it carried out more than 140 strikes on Tehran and elsewhere in Iran. Officials reported power cuts in Tehran and Alborz province after energy infrastructure was hit. A university in Isfahan said it has been hit by US-Israeli strikes for the second time this weekend.

One month into the US-Israel campaign against Iran, the conflict has intensified across the Middle East, disrupting global energy markets and sparking widespread protests in thousands of US cities on Sunday.

Footage verified by the BBC showed smoke rising from the Neot Hovav industrial complex in southern Israel. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps claimed responsibility for the attack. Images circulated by multiple media outlets showed fires burning and thick black smoke plumes rising from the site, which houses more than 30 factories.

Israel's fire and rescue service said crews worked to "prevent an explosion or additional leaks" and warned the public not to approach the area due to the "presence of hazardous materials."

Residents nearby were urged to "lock themselves in their homes, close windows and vents." The service added that the incident was confined "within the boundaries of the industrial zone" and posed no danger to anyone situated more than 800 metres away.

Later, Iran's Energy Ministry said attacks on "electricity infrastructure" in parts of the capital, Tehran, the wider Tehran Province and Alborz Province led to power being cut off.

"Shrapnel struck one of the electricity pylons at the entrance to the city of Karaj," deputy energy minister Mostafa Mashhadi said.

The Gulf region has also seen a surge in attacks. Kuwait's defence ministry reported detecting 14 ballistic missiles and 12 drones in its airspace, injuring 10 military personnel at an army camp.

Qatar intercepted several Iranian drones, averting casualties. The UAE defence ministry said its systems engaged 16 ballistic missiles and 42 drones. Emirates Global Aluminium confirmed significant damage at an Abu Dhabi site and six employees injured. Aluminium Bahrain reported minor injuries to two staff members.

The strikes come as US forces continue preparations for a possible ground intervention in Iran. The Pentagon has reportedly considered securing strategic locations, including the Kharg Island oil hub and military facilities.

According to CNN, US Central Command chief Admiral Brad Cooper met with Israeli military Chief of Staff Lt-Gen Eyal Zamir and other senior Israeli generals to discuss the conflict and efforts to halt Iranian weapons production.

Meanwhile, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf reiterated Tehran's readiness to respond to any US ground attack, stating: "Our firing continues. Our missiles are in place. Our determination and faith have increased."

Israel reported more than 140 air strikes on central and western Iran in the past 24 hours, targeting missile launch sites, storage facilities, and military positions. Air strikes also hit Popular Mobilisation Forces sites in Mosul and Tuz Khurmatu in Iraq.

With Tehran maintaining pressure, US and Israeli air operations ongoing, and global oil markets on edge, the White House and Iran face a stark choice: escalate further or negotiate. Gone are the days of naval wars. Russia, China, America or any country will not take these carriers close to the shoreline of the enemy because of the ease with which they can be overwhelmed and destroyed. 1 cruise missile or drone, 1 suicide vessel or mine could take out a multi billion dollar carrier, no one would risk it.

How is the US planning a ground invasion with its regional bases hit hard, war ships having to run away and abilities severely compromised already? This is nothing but a failed attempt to intimidate Iran to come to the negotiation table and they're not buying any of this. The US doesn't have the ability to make a serious ground invasion attempt right now.

Now Trump's minions are talking about Greater Northern America in the middle of West Asia conflict.

This is a very good post - asking some sensible questions as I did as well.

My answer is - there's simply just no way for the US to succeed unless there is a massive escalation and even that won't be enough.

Option 1: Mobilize massive forces - the US would need more than 1 million soldiers and it would take then more than 1 year to get the logistics in place. Chances of success - slim given Iran is like Vietnam but on steroids. He doesn't have the public support for this either.

Option 2: Use a tactical nuke - I wouldn't put it past them given how badly they're doing. But chances of success are again slim because Iran has enough material to quickly put together a small rudimentary warhead together and launch on one of their missiles and attack Israel.

Option 3: Declare victory and leave. It will be considered humiliation to those who understand - but better this than option 1 and 2.

You must be in your nappies.... you are comparing USS Abraham Lincoln with Pakistan or Iranian warships which sinks easily.... USS Abraham Lincoln is nuclear powere super aircraft carrier which is a mother ship surrounded by 60-70 warships including submarine.

I think the prospect of the world economy grinding to a halt if the US can't finish Iran quickly will see the Americans go for option 3. Trump likes to think he knows the art of the deal, so he was probably applying his dealer logic in a gamble that he could win big instead of being seen as an Epstein island loser.

The rest of the world has genuine business to run, and it's in danger of grinding to a halt if Iran doesn't take the bait.
