Sultans franchise moves from Multan to Rawalpindi after record Rs2.45bn sale to Walee Technologies in PSL 11 auction

Quetta Gladiators being allowed to drive a Bentley although they are paying instalment fees for a Chevrolet

Ridiculous! How are the 3 new teams worth 2-3 more times more than a franchise that’s been around 10 years?

Mohsin Naqvi apparently used this against the first 5 franchises i.e. the PCB and the PSL is accommodating you, rewarding you for your initial investment and support of the league by giving you lower annual fees. However the time has now come for all of you now to play your part by increasing the player purse and supporting the auction for the players.

I read somewhere Rawalpindi Rellukattey can also sign up four players before the auction from the retention pool and one direct signing.

I can see them snapping up Naseem Shah, Nafay etc before the auction

abey ja oye, naseem shah, nafay.

Our first signing will be Sheeda Talli

Multan Sultans has a 6 year history in the PSL, they have a fanbase and a fully functional cricket stadium, is it wise for the PCB to just let this team go in the dustbin of history?

Maybe the PCB can consider operating the team itself for a year and then assess whether they should auction it as the 9th team where the buyers are exclusively told that the auction is for Multan Sultans and no other team

The Multan Sultans fans on social media are having a terrible melt down.

We’re not seeing another new franchise for another decade. Let this lot break even first.

The usual pillocks on here have made it a Rizwan and Ali Tareen thing, but this is the biggest issue I have with this decision to move from Multan to Pindi. You’ve basically told a passionate dedicated fan base w/ a separate international stadium to take a hike. They are rightfully agrieved.

This is not right tbh. Yes Pindi Isl rivalry ll be good but a team who played 4 out last 5 finals is suddenly disappearing. Multan intl stadium is of no use if they dont have their own home matches.

I’m hoping for Rawalpindi Express. It’s a name that flows as well as an homage to that city’s premier fast bowler.

Absolute scenes at the MS auction. Saw one of the bidders being super emotional at the verge of tears for not being able to get the team. Feels bad man.

What a joke this is.... Riawalpindi name for a franchise when we already have Islamabad... I think PCB needs to have some kind of hold in this..

naa, the guy paid 200+ carore, he does deserve to have his choice of team.

the guy is an ex cricketer of Pakistan. Gohar Shah. Thats why.

So tomorrow a guy will buy a franchise and he will name it t-chowk pathers, and we will be fine with that??
Did PCB mentioned the sale of T-Chowk Pathers in their list?

Rawalpindi was in their list.

Relocation of franchises to another city is a very common thing in sports leagues. In the NHL Quebec City was sold and the new owners converted into in Colorado Avalanches.

This is happening first time in Pakistan, so alot of people dont understand this concept and are being emotional.

The guy spitted out 200 carores, he will choose the city he wants, and luckily PCB had listed that city in the options they gave.

pinid and Isl are same... Yeah, people living in pindi will love it.

Nope not same at all.

Islamabadis live in their own bubble. Have their own social circle and barely travel down to Pindi.

Also, people tend to confuse Rawalpindi with Islamabad. Rawalpindi means the whole Rawlapindi region which includes Attock, Gujar Khan, Chakwal etc.

Yup, people from Pindi are going crazy over this.

PCB is such a circus. Multan Sultan had a great fan following. That's how you build a franchise fan base, by actually existing for long term and not just giving away to the highest bidder

no.
In Franchise leagues, once a team is resold the buyer gets to decide which city he wants to relocate to if given the option.

The fan base does get affected, but the buyer is looking from a business pov where he believes he can generate more money from another city.

PCB did nothing wrong here, they were infact mature. Its Ali Tareen who messed things up and couldn't cough up 120 carores as renewal.

If PCB was going to keep Multan Sultans, than the base price would had been set at the renewal price that they had at revaluation which was near 120 carores. That was not gonna benefit anyone, PCB saw opportunity and started the bidding with a base price at 180 carores, once that happen, the new owners were gonna have their own city.

Ali Tareen had the option of trasnfering or selling the franchise to whoever he wanted if he didnt want to pay the renewals. Had he sold the franchise to another party the name and city would had stayed. He didnt even bother renewing it, once back to PCB, PCB had the option going with a new base price.

One of the guys who was trying to bid for team was actually an ex cricketer and wanted to bid for Multan

His name is Gohar Shah

HE was the one who was trying to bid against Wallee but couldnt win.

Damn tough luck. But Bawa Qadra had otehr things in mind
For the FC reference I don’t think he’s proper FC quality because MCC University standard cricket is a tier or two below standard FC in UK. Still no easy feat to represent Loughborough at University cricket.

The guy seems genuine and likeable

Naqvi and Salman Naseer can make this right. Offer Sultans to him at 2.45bn as he bidded with mutual agreement with the 3rd party who couldn’t purchase it. Maybe give them a 10th Franchise

The PCB don’t need to rush anything, you can re-do the entire retentions etc with 10 teams and make a new schedule and window

Unfortunately, the next expansion will be in 2036

It’s stupid

I don’t think the 8 franchises would mind if it happens now.
They would. But i dont think sialkot, hyderabad and rawalpindi will last long.

If the renewal fee is annual basis, than i doubt they can cough up these amounts every year.

We will be seeing these teams go back for sale again, so who knows multan might return next season. But the number of teams will stay 8

Generally I don't like 'franchising' in sports. I prefer the idea that sports teams should be community assets, embedded in their local areas - rather like English football clubs (where there is one exception - Milton Keynes which is the only franchise in English football). But this is how T20 is run around the world - basically a rich guy buys the right to call his team whatever he wants to call it and you end up with jokes like StallionZ and Hyderabad Houston. So this is no surprise.

Neither players nor owners PCB doesn’t care about anyone, lucky for them awam has no choice.

Irrespective best of luck to Pindi, apparently my ancestral city area.

Absolutely. Especially in a cricket mad nation as ours. The word franchise makes my insides cringe.

Akhlaq will get a buyer as the league progress. He is the only keeper that can bat aggressivly.

Im really annoyed that arif yaqoob didnt get buyers. He is good enough spinner.

The development not going well for many and Abdur Rouf is one of them

Not sure what Ali Tareen is complaining about here, the PCB allowed him every opportunity to participate in both auctions. No injustice was committed against him. What Ali Tareen is not disclosing is that he had contacted the PCB and requested them that he had a change of heart and wanted to now accept the PCB renewal offer but the PCB told him to take a hike. He even threatened litigation on the matter but he knew deep down he had no case as the PCB did not officially make him a renewal offer and he himself publicly announced parting ways with Multan Sultans. If there is anyone the Multan Sultan's fans should be lynching its him. He completely mis managed and destroyed the Franchise his late uncle Alamgir Tareen worked so hard to build.
