Rashford's £40m transfer hope

Marcus Rashford believes Manchester United would be prepared to sell him for £40m to anyone this summer, not just Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old joined Villa in February in a loan deal that included a £40m option-to-buy clause.

The clause does not prevent any other club signing the forward, whose short-term contract with Villa expires on 30 June.

Manager Unai Emery has confirmed Rashford will not play for Villa again this season as he has yet to recover from the hamstring injury he suffered in the build-up to last month's FA Cup semi-final defeat by Crystal Palace.

The England international is ineligible for Villa's final game of the season against his parent club at Old Trafford on 25 May.

While Rashford is understood to have enjoyed his time working under Emery and had a significant impact on Villa's run to the Champions League quarter-finals - where they were narrowly beaten by Paris St-Germain - there have been no negotiations over a permanent transfer.

Villa still harbour realistic ambitions of a top-five Premier League finish, which would secure a return to the Champions League next season. It would also put them in a better position to broker a deal, considering sources close to Rashford stress he has no intention of taking a pay cut from his estimated £325,000-a-week salary.

The Rashford camp do not believe United head coach Ruben Amorim wants to restore the player to his squad, while minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe previously spoke about his frustration at some of the team's high earners not being on the pitch.

It has echoes of 12 months ago, when Jadon Sancho finished the season with Borussia Dortmund following a major public falling-out with then-manager Erik ten Hag.

An uneasy peace was brokered by senior club officials between player and manager that at least allowed Sancho to be part of United's pre-season preparations, but the England forward was overlooked for the opening Premier League games and eventually joined Chelsea.

It is not yet clear whether Chelsea will pay a £5m fee to send Sancho back to United, rather than pay the agreed £20m-£25m to sign the 25-year-old.

As it stands, sources close to Rashford expect him to return to United for pre-season training in July. United have a match against newly promoted Leeds in Sweden on 19 July before they head to the United States for three games in the Premier League's summer tournament.

They conclude their preparations against Fiorentina, who have former United goalkeeper David de Gea in their ranks, at Old Trafford on 9 August.

Real Madrid are set to sign Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen after agreeing to pay the defender's £50m release clause.

The Spain international, 20, is close to agreeing personal terms with the La Liga club, turning down a number of offers to remain in England.

Madrid will activate the release clause in Huijsen's Bournemouth contract, which he signed less than 12 months ago.

The fee will be paid in three instalments, with Huijsen's two former clubs set to receive a slice of the fee - Juventus are due 10% and Malaga 5%.

BBC Sport has been told by multiple sources the deal is progressing with a full agreement expected soon.

Real wanted to complete the signing before next month's inaugural Club World Cup in the US.

Huijsen had as many as seven offers on the table, and had attracted interest from Premier League clubs Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle.

Huijsen has chosen Real and will return to Spain where he grew up, playing for Costa Unida CF academy in Marbella and Malaga's youth team.

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, who is set to replace Carlo Ancelotti as Real manager, has been instrumental in the decision to sign the defender and prioritised signing a young centre-back.

Huijsen joined Bournemouth from Juventus last summer for a fee of £12.6m.

The Netherlands-born defender has made 34 appearances in all competitions for the Cherries this season, scoring three times.

Huijsen is set to become Madrid's second signing from the Premier League this summer, with Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold also set to move to the Spanish capital.

Huijsen was subject of an international tug-of-war between the Netherlands, where he was born, and Spain, where he was raised.

He opted to play for Spain, and made his debut for the 2024 European Championship winners against the Netherlands in March 2025.

Spain manager Luis de la Fuente, who gave Huijsen his international debut, says the defender is "ready" for the move to the Bernabeu.

"I see him - if nothing gets in the way - as capable of playing for any team," De La Fuente told BBC Sport.

"I don't see any limits. Huijsen is having a great season in the Premier League and is ready. I'm sure he'll keep improving with time, naturally."

Liverpool's Kelleher set for £18m Brentford move

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is set to move to Brentford after the clubs agreed a £12.5m fee for the player, rising to £18m in add-ons.

The Republic of Ireland international, 26, is seen as a replacement for the Bees' number one Mark Flekken, who is heading to German side Bayer Leverkusen.

The Bundesliga club have agreed a fee of about £8m for the 31-year-old Dutchman.

Kelleher has a year left on his contract at Anfield but Valencia keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will join the Premier League champions in July to compete for the number one shirt with established first choice Alisson Becker.

Kelleher has played in 25 Premier League games for Liverpool since making his debut five years ago.

He has also played in more than 40 cup games for the club, which means he has won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups and a Uefa Super Cup in his time at Anfield.

Netherlands international Flekken joined Brentford from German side Freiburg for a reported £11m in May 2023.

He had kept more clean sheets than any goalkeeper in the Bundesliga over the previous two seasons and has only strengthened his reputation while at Brentford.

Flekken has played in all but two Premier League games over the past two seasons, registering 14 clean sheets and three assists.

Here are some of the headline moves made since this mini-window opened on 1 June:

Manchester United agreed a deal with Wolves for the signing of Brazil forward Matheus Cunha after activating his £62.5 million release clause.

Brentford signed goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool to replace Mark Flekken, after the Dutch stopper joined Bayer Leverkusen.

Chelsea completed the signing of striker Liam Delap (pictured) from Ipswich Town for £30m, fending off competition from Man Utd, Newcastle and Everton.

Teenage defender Mamadou Sarr joined Chelsea from partner club Strasbourg for £12m.

Veteran midfielder Jorginho departed Arsenal for Brazilian club Flamengo on a free transfer.

English defender Lloyd Kelly completed a £20m move from Newcastle to Juventus, following a loan spell in Italy last season.

Manchester City signed Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri for £31m.

Chelsea have £42m Gittens bid rejected by Dortmund

Chelsea have had an offer worth more than £42m for English winger Jamie Gittens rejected by Borussia Dortmund.

The 20-year-old already has a seven-year contract on the table and is thought to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

But the two clubs are struggling to meet in the middle on their valuation despite the England Under-21s international not fitting into the system of manager Niko Kovac, who joined the German club in February.

The latest rejection casts doubt over whether Gittens will join Chelsea in time to take part in the Club World Cup, with a first transfer deadline for the competition approaching on Tuesday evening.

Chelsea have not ruled out further approaches for Gittens after the deadline, but also have interest in Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho and West Ham's Mohammed Kudus.

Rayan Cherki: Manchester City complete £34m deal to sign attacking midfielder from Lyon

Manchester City have completed the £34m signing of attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki from Lyon.

The 21-year-old has signed a five-year deal until the summer of 2030.

Cherki contributed 12 goals and 20 assists in 44 games in all competitions for Lyon last season.

£400m spent but who made early moves in mini transfer window?

After a busy 10 days in which £400m was spent by Premier League clubs, the transfer window has officially closed - six days before it opens again.

This summer has seen an unusual, two-part transfer window to allow clubs to sign players for the Fifa Club World Cup which begins on Sunday, 15 June (01:00 BST).

The window will open once more on Monday, 16 June, before closing on Monday, 1 September at 19:00 BST for Premier League, EFL and Scottish Premiership clubs.

Fifa rules state transfer windows cannot last more than 16 weeks in a calendar year, hence the split this summer.

Manchester City and Chelsea are the two Premier League clubs competing at the Club World Cup in the United States, but any team from a league with sides at the tournament could participate in the window.

So who made their early moves?

De Bruyne completes Napoli move after Man City exit

Kevin de Bruyne has completed his move to Napoli after the Belgian midfielder left Manchester City at the end of the Premier League season.

De Bruyne will link up with former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, who is head coach of the Italian champions.

In moving to Italy on a free transfer, De Bruyne rejected an offer from Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire, and the switch means he can play in the Champions League next season.

Napoli announced the signing of the 33-year-old with a computer-generated image, external of De Bruyne sitting on a throne wearing a crown, captioned "King Kev is here".

He left Manchester City after 10 years at the club, winning 19 major trophies after joining from Wolfsburg in 2015.
