The Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday reinstated a ban on the transmission of Indian content on local television channels, setting aside an earlier verdict by the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar was hearing a case filed by the United Producers Association pertaining to the broadcast of foreign content on Pakistani television channels in the SC Karachi registry today.

"They are trying to [obstruct the construction] of our dam and we cannot even ban their channels?" the top judge fumed as he ordered the broadcast of Indian shows to be "shut down" before adding that the authorities should "only air appropriate content".

In 2016, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) had imposed a complete ban on airing Indian content on local television and FM radio channels.

The decision was largely seen as a ***-for-tat move after similar actions were taken by some channels and the entertainment industry in India against Pakistani content and artists.

In 2017, the LHC had lifted the Pemra-imposed ban, declaring it null and void as the federal government had no objections regarding the same.

I am surprised it wasnt banned earlier. Afterall, our Ind friend's are happy for the cricketing boycott, we should go further and ban all trade and any cultural links.

who cares we have more potent weapon against pakistan

that is coal power plants which screw the air of south asia

Should have done this a long time back. Yesterday Hafiz Saeed rightfully removed from banned list in Pak and today Indian channels banned as well. Tells India how important we consider having talks with them. No reason why we should show their channels when they don't do ours.

Tell that to Imran Khan. He threw a fit on twitter when Modi refused to talk.

Only in Pakistan UN sanctioned terrorists are allowed to roam free.

I don't like this in principle, but I think there could be a negotiated lifting of the ban discussed with the Indian govt linked to the lifting of the ban on Pakistan players from the IPL. In this way the determined march towards boycotts and bans could be turned toward a more positive course by the same protagonists. For every substandard Bollywood flick, Pakistan could offer a substandard Pakistani cricketer. Is that not a better and more healthy solution?

IK was wrong due to his inexperience as PM at the time but has now been corrected by the ISI and others. Hafiz walking free is evidence that we don't care about talks. You can keep crying about the UN all you want that makes Hafiz being removed from the list even sweeter!:yk2 This is the same UN that did nothing about American illegal invasion of Iraq and India's atrocities in IoK. Have a look at your butcher of Gujarat PM before telling us who the terrorists are. Loving it!!
