I need some advice. I find myself in Sydney, been here a week, got two left. What suburbs/places of interest would appeal for all things Pakistani? Where could I bump into someone who I could relate to being of Pakistani heritage myself. Within which cafe/takeaway/eaterie could I strike up a conversation of mutual interest.

You are a Pakistani and you go all the way to Australia to talk to Pakistanis? Sounds a bit bizarre! You could have done that in Lahore, Karachi or Vehari etc.

I am not from Pakistan. I am from the UK and want some of that same energy here.

I get it. But you are of Pakistani ethnicity right like myself although I am from Hong Kong, right.

Well, I was in Brisbane a while back and stayed clear of Pakistanis and instead visited attractions to know more of Australian and aboriginal culture.

My purpose of coming was to stay with friends who emigrated here 20 years ago they live in Lane Cove Sydney, even tho they too are Pakistani, they might as well not be.

I am visiting attractions, like I said I have been here a week, but a couple of days coming up where they will be at work and want to visit an 'apna' area.

Oh right. Totally get you. Have a good time.

I would suggest Auburn, Merrylands and Lakemba. Even with those locations, Pakistanis are no way near a high minority. There arent that many places in Australia with a lot of Pakistani population, we are scattered all over. Harris Park is very desi but its mostly Indian and not many Pakistani shops in comparison.

Theres a good restaurant in Pennant Hills called Kolachi which is a fusion of Pakistani and Turkish cuisine, their Chicken tikka pizza is exactly what you can find in Pakistan, also do a really good Halwa Puri in the morning. I would suggest to eat in there as takeaway quality is very poor.

In terms of Mosque, that I know of, Rooty Hill Mosque is mostly run by Pakistanis and from last I went, were doing Khutba in Urdu.

If you are here until Ramadan, then Lakemba is the place to be as there is a food street that opens up every day after iftar with Desi and middle eastern food.It has become an icon now in Sydney with more non muslims now visiting the street during Ramadan.

Thank you for your advice. Well tonight been to Harris Park and I can report it exactly like you said -very desi and very Indian.

I guess it is going to be tough to meet Pakistanis in any number. The most likely is the mosque you mention and unfortunately I have a phobia of mosques.

I will try and visit Kolachi for halwa puri.
