What's new

Talent Spotter : Mohammad Irfan (leg-spin bowler)

Took the wicket of a set Kamran Akmal and then scored 73 vs WAPDA.

He will have a role with the ball in the second innings...

Again. A very improved Cricketer.

He seems to be a decent allrounder who is technically quite sound and can use the big handle.

More than Usama Mir it's now Irfan leggie who will challenge Shadab Khan for a spot in Pakistan team especially in Odi Cricket.

Another prediction time : Till Inzamam is Chief Selector and if Yasir gets unfit again than Irfan will replace him in playing eleven and his debut will make Warne jump in his seats.

Initially Irfan was a very casual spinner who could turn his leggies but he has massively improved. 2 years ago Usama Mir was ahead of him but now Irfan is nearing Pakistan call.

Irfan has edge over Usama Mir now not only in bowling but batting aswell.

Great to see tough competition for places.

1. Yasir
2. Shadab
3. Irfan
4. Usama

Could be just a high arm variation.

Played in a televised game today, looks like he has made slight modifications to his action.

On the topic of his bowling, he's the highest wicket taker in the QeA One Day Cup and yet no A team call up

Looks a shadow of the potential bowler he could have been. No turn, and no over spin, but looked to have a bit more control.

I heard Inzamam say that He wants to give Yasir Shah a chance again in Odi Cricket before WC 2019.

Well Inzi, Mohammad Irfan Khan Afridi is an allrounder and a quality one.

Today He played a real quality knock batting at number 4.

Well done to Mohammad Wasim of PTV for grooming him so well.

Mohammad wasim has been brilliant in giving chances to youngsters.

Bowled absolutely beautifully today, 2-17. Has been getting runs this tournament too Saj Abdullah719

Yeah, unfortunately PTV Sports were showing the hockey match during his fifty so I couldn't get a video of that :(

Yeah that was really annoying. He'll just have to score another fifty :P

His spell today though is worth a watch (if you haven't done so already).

Brother I am trying to dig a three or four day (warm up game) where Irfan took 4 wickets against visiting International team.

Can you help ? May be you remember that match.

Playing for Khyber 2XI in the T20 Cup and has only had one game so far.

Irfan is a real talent. Shame to see him not get more opportunities.

Cant be that good if he hardly got a game in the second xI?

He has had a decent outing for Khyber 2nds in the recent T20 cup. Good talent - should keep an eye on him.

I was intrigued to see where he got up to. Sadly these are his red-ball averages:

2019-20 (QEA) - 56. Gets demoted after 2 matches.
2019-20 (2nd XI) - 62.
2020-21 (2nd XI) - 66.

You're right he had a good 2nd XI T20 Cup this year averaging 18.40. Unfortunately the 2nd XI competition is of weaker standard and it's unlikely we'll see him play much top level cricket now.

I don't know if anyone recalls his namesake (Mohammad Irfan Jailer - SLA) but he hasn't kicked on either:

2019-20 (QEA) - 43.04.
2020-21 (QEA) - 51.75.

So many guys had impressive numbers in the old bloated setup, but the new system has been a better filter for quality.

Who was the Rawalpindi legend that took 100s of wickets and then struggled on the better pitches

Sadaf Hussain ?

Never averaged more than 23 in a FC season in the old setup. Then:

2019-20 QEA - 50.31.
2020-21 QEA - 59.40.

That's my man. No wonder the old legends hate the new system. It's filtered out the drivel, now to better wickets with more bounce and we will start to produce the players we are so desperate for

They used to use a local ball that would continuously seam around a ridiculous amount and made medium pacers look like gold. That and at times underprepared pitches made batting very difficult which resulted in the really good bowling averages.

So unrelated to the new domestic format but a good decision nonetheless to switch to the kukaburra ball.

The pitches are better also but we end up with very flat tracks way too often nowadays. Need to have some bounce and allow for spin on at least some of the grounds.
