Talent Spotter : Naseem Shah

A place in the national side is there for the taking for this lad.

He needs to perform in Asia Cup and I think he will get selected for the national squad.

We have found a diamond, ladies and gentlemen.

Rising U19 star Naseem Shah: When talent meets resilience

Lahore, 30 July 2019: Naseem Shah was thinking of ways of celebrating wickets in the HBL Pakistan Super League 2019, but a back injury, sustained while bowling in an U19 camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, ruled him out of the prestigious league.

A CT scan revealed that the 16-year-old had a fracture, only a mention of which is enough to raise alarm bells for any fast-bowler. But, a chat with Sarfaraz Ahmed – the captain of Quetta Gladiators, a franchise for which Naseem had to turn out – did wonders for his morale, necessary to overcome the rigours of a rehab.

Naseem’s was a phenomenal comeback to the Pakistan U19 side. His lethal pace and sharp bounce made the batsmen duck and sway, providing him 12 wickets in five one-dayers against South Africa U19 in process when did the tour take place, give details.

“Suffering the injury and getting to know that I was going to sit out the HBL PSL was one of the saddest days of my life,” recalls Naseem. “I want to thank the Quetta Gladiators management, who despite my injury carried me along with them for the HBL PSL.

“Sarfaraz’s pep talk acted as a catalyst for me. He explained to me that injuries are part and parcel of a cricketer’s life. The atmosphere in the Quetta Gladiators dugout was absolutely fantastic, where the greats of the game like Sir Viv Richards, Dwayne Bravo and Moin [Khan] bhai were present to pass on the knowledge and share their experiences with the youngsters.”

The example of Usman Shinwari, who suffered a stress fracture in his back immediately after announcing his arrival in the series against Sri Lanka in the UAE in late 2017, provided Naseem with further motivation. “It encouraged me to make a comeback” says Naseem remembering the conversation he had with Shinwari in which the latter spoke about out how rehabilitation not only allowed him back into the national side’s fold but helped in improving pace and fitness.

Naseem was full of praise for the NCA staff. “I am extremely thankful to the management and coaches at the NCA and the PCB for taking a great care of me. Mudassar Nazar, director academies, gave me examples of other fast-bowlers who went through the same patch. It let me know, there is light at the other side of the tunnel.”

Naseem had to battle at many fronts to be where he is today. One of those was to convince his family to allow him to take cricket as a profession. It meant that he had to leave his family. “Initially, my family was not comfortable with the idea of me coming to Lahore. But, my uncle convinced my parents to let me come here to fulfil my dream of donning Pakistan’s golden star on my chest.

Naseem made his first-class debut for Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited against Lahore Region Blues. In his second match against Pakistan Television in September 2018, he grabbed seven wickets which helped his side to a nine-wicket win.

Speaking about that contest in Rawalpindi, Naseem said: “There was a lot of pressure on me. But thank to Almighty, I was able to deliver and win it for my team.”

The experts have earmarked him as someone with bright prospects at the highest level. He idolises former New Zealand fast-bowler Shane Bond and emulates his bowling action.

“Shane Bond is my ideal bowler. People say that I have a similar bowling action like him, which I take as a compliment. My objective is to play for Pakistan and serve my country in all three formats of the game.”

For now, Naseem has set his focus on surmounting the forthcoming challenges.

“My main focus right now is on the upcoming Asia Cup this year and the next year’s ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup to perform well for my country.”

Was watching geo super on youtube

According to a journalist, Waqar is really impressed by him.

He should hopefully be playing for CP in 2 days time as Hasan is in the training camp. He should be a first choice in the first XI even when Hasan is there, especially on such flat pitches where you need a bowler like him.

It's unfortunate that many people in the management of the teams think that experience is a superpower and nothing can beat it, as long as that mentality is around, guys like Waqas Maqsood and Hasan Ali will always play over genuine talents like Naseem Shah.

Babar azam also mentioned his name during interview with shan masood .he said he will join central punjab in next fixture where he might surprised quite a few with his talent

That is true but to think he has just gone through a stess fracture..and him to play on the absolute roads wouldnt be a good idea. Then again if the captain uses him in spurts which will be good. Accoding to my knowledge Central Punjabs next game is also live streamed against Northern so it will be good to see Naseem and Haider Ali in action this week

If Waqar is impressed by Naseem then hopefully he can convince Misbah to try him out at international level.

It's time to get rid of Hasan, Faheem, Wahab, Junaid, Rahat, Irfan and Sohail Khan and get these young, more talented and hard working guys like Naseem, Hasnain, Haris and a few more around the national team. These guys are the future and the next 4 years should be used to prepare for the world cup. Get Umer Khan in too. These guys could be important for the Test championship too.

Hundred Percent agreed with Danyaalr01 ..especially bowling front we cant do any harm in trying them . In batting i am afraid there is no talent coming through at all which is sad. If you look at the first round of Quaid trophy not ONE spinner who is decent was playing or made to play how is Pak suppose to find replacement of Yasir Shah etc

Very excited to see few good bowlers coming through our domestic system. Hasnain, Haris Rauf, Shaheen, Naseem can be our future stars. But we shouldn't force them into the team. Let them develop and play few FC seasons. And pleased that a bowler like Waqar Younis will be there to guide them.

his action is a thing of beauty. so verticle and efficient. like just watching the videos you feel the weight going into that shoulder rotation. also he has good natural musculature. not that tall but i don't think thats an in issue. dale steyn was a fairly short man

It's a very snappy action. He loads up and then suddenly releases and everything moves in perfect sync and with speed. Really nice to watch. One of the commentators during the warm up match was very excited to see him and said how good his action is, and how he bowls like an 80s bowler of old.

he creates like a vacuum around him when he bowls. its uncanny. reckon he will be elite if he can stay injury free

He modified his action after his back injury so that it puts less stress on his back, and he didn't lose much pace from the modification.

looks a lot like dennis lillees action, yeah his action has improved since then.
theres so much power going through the crease

Naseem Shah gets another chance to perform - lets hope he does better than Australia.

Explain by BETTER...how was he worse he was the best bowler..he even had warner caught of a no ball...

Shaheen was the best bowler. On his debut tour to Australia, his performance was decent. Average of 36, with an economy rate on under 3. He has so much potential. If only he was supported well by others, we could have created history.

Didnt bowl enough overs and there are question marks about his fitness etc - all that can be put to rest if he does better this time around.

Naseem was clearly better at Brisbane. It's not his fault that he wasn't given the ball after probably what was the best spell a Pakistani bowler bowled on the tour. Then he didn't play at Adelaide.

I agree that Shaheen was good too.

There aren't any questions about his fitness. He has bowed long spells in QeA trophy and he maintained a high pace throughout the game in Australia. He bowled less overs as Misbah wanted to managa his workload. I agree his workload should be managed, but the way they did it was dumb. He should go all out in the games he plays and he should be given a rest every second game for the next 2 years at least.

"Andy Roberts is not Naseem Shah's father. I can guarantee you that he is 16 years of age" Suleiman

Naseem's childhood coach Suleiman Qadir:

"He has undergone PCB-conducted bones tests and a panel of doctors had also confirmed his age," Naseem's former coach Suleiman Qadir said. "Yes, in the past I do agree that in the absence of birth-certificates the age of certain cricketers were questioned. But in the case of Naseem Shah, he already has a birth certificate and a smart card. In our country Smart Card becomes a National Identity Card when a person crosses 18 and Naseem is still holding the Smart Card," he added.

"Andy Roberts is not Naseem Shah's father. I can guarantee you that he is 16 years of age. He came to our academy some 4 years ago and was twelve then," Naseem's former coach told Asian Age.

So a lot has been going around so as mentioned in another thread as well, I though its worth sharing Naseem's coach views.

Ofcourse the coach is lying, why on earth Naseem would exaggerate his own age by telling a lie to Saj?
May be the coach is the same guy who made him a fake smart card in the first place.

I must of missed the thread, can you please provide a link to when Naseem admitted his own age?
