Head and shoulders above Nawaz.
What kind of a poor statement is that?
At 18, most healthy adults in Pakistan look like that. Their looks are different from an average 18 yr old BD or Indian guy. Varun
In Pak they are well built usually and healthy like him, so please don't compare with an 18 yr old BD kid. He's also from North/Islamabad, so that also explains his good development.
If you look go to EU/US, they look even older at 18 than Shadab.

Facial hair does not signify age. I had full beard when I was 14 have been shaving since 15.

How I missed this gem from you!!!! Apart from his look (which obviously is a high quality north Pakistan gin), look at his facial hairs - not now, from one year back in U19 WC & then come to tell us he is 17 then. Afridi definitely looked 16 in his first innings, for a north Pakistani kid.
I don't understand, what you tried to achieve with this gem. I have passed that age between 13 to 23 in 4 continents, not countries, continents - from Sydney to Lndon to New York to LA to Singapore - show me one Nordic or Aussie, Canadian or even African kid with that facial hairline at 17.
What disappoint me about both Babar and Shadab that when they speak in post match interviews, forget about English, there Urdu is like somebody who has not gone to school. Urdu Accent and pronounciation got to be the level of 11/12 grade kid, not like buss driver. Maybe I am out of Pakistan for 20 years, but I still cannot believe 18/20 old kids talk in such an uncultured Urdu...How can you talk like that? - And these two guys are best talented players I have seen in many years.
This is dangerous sign, lack of education limits there growth potential a whole lot. This also make these kids vulnerable to exploits.

About this I agree. It's better here. Hardik Pandya has the same background, but he taught himself English and even last year's IPL it was amazing how good his English was. You would think he's an upper class dude from Delhi or Mumbai listening to him.

Strange , he was selected for A team without playing a single FC match. That works for Pakistan cricket and many great starts of the past, Wasim Akram, Waqar, Aaqib Javed did not have impressive FC record before making international debut.
Is it some kind of record to have 2 MoM in first 2 matches ?
According to MMHS everyone in Pakistan has faked their age. Hell, Pakistan itself may have lied about its age, it was actually born in 1944 and is 73 now.
Some people truly have a chip on their shoulder.

I don't disagree with that - someone Md. Irfan must have been around 6'10" at genuine 18. There are few other factors, from which my hunch is Shadab is between 19 to 21 - I feel, most probably there is 1-2 years in his official age. That's probably true for most Asian cricketers (or African footballers) - like our Miraj is around 21 now; which is acceptable as long as that's factored in selection process. For a leggi, a year or 2 doesn't matter much at this age.
Special talent!!!
To all the posters here who thinks I judge age by only facial hair needs to chill down. For a reason most of Imran's youngsters debuted between 16 to 19 & lost their appetite by 30, even from FC. Now, that scouting filter isn't used, so youngsters are picked in their official mid 20s, and in 5/6 years of debut, they look like Sohail Khan & Imran Khan (the recent one - original one debuted at 18 & grew 2 inches in next 3 years). Besides, it doesn't matter when one starts to shave - Shikhs don't even shave throughout their life & they are originated from same area.
In past, it was almost day robbery - like Razzak was 17, Afridi 16, Sami 20, Nazir 17, Aaquib 16, Mushi 17.... at debut. Now it has come to acceptable level - that's 1/2 max 3 years. The more educated boys come to cricket, it'll improve farther.
When he plays against teams that are good against spin and in even conditions. Only then we will be able to measure his true worth.
Just saying
I myself saw people from northern part of pakistan having facial hair. Their ages were between 13 to 16.
I do not think there is anyway to prove his age unless you go to the hospital where he was born. I wonder whether that hospital would have record of his birth or not. One has to determine legitness of his birth documentation records too. So lets call him an eighteen year old. Just like some ppers call shoaib malik legit 17 yr old ie Mamoon
Bone xrays are not conclusive. So lets go with his official age ie 18
Regards
Agreed, but his attitude and those wrong ones look quite amazing.
Like some Pak ppers says always about other country's new talent, should we say ," HE WILL BE FIND OUT SOON "????![]()
I myself think Malik was almost genuine 17 at debut - that's why at 36, he is still the fittest & fastest player in the team - business usual he almost would have broken Hasan Raja's record. Same goes for Imran, who was genuine 18 years at debut; probably Mazid Khan as well - looked younger than Azhar Ali in the latest archive that I saw - 1983, when he was 36+
genuine age is exception in Pakistan, in fact South Asia - don't understand why it's so bitter to swallow for individuals. Can't prove anything, even hospital certificates are fake - for that we'll have to wait 15 years. But, the pervious great leggi also started at 18, and his name is Mushtaq Ahmed; till 1999/2000, everyone argued that he was genuine 29/30......
No one denied that, and you missed mentioning shoaib malik along Afridi and Abdul Razzaq etc and you are still implying that shadab khan is not 18. Thats the argument that people are having here
Agreed. MashAllah he does have the ingredients to excel against big teams so lets see.
Champions Trophy would be the real test for him, hope he succeed.
You have to go to initial post - I thought & still think that he is between 19-20-21; that's my personal opinion. Anyone can ignore that - problem starts when intellectuals start to give lectures on gin & race. Then the arguments comes with historical facts & figures. You think he is 18, fine - Indians also think Tendulkar was 16 & most Bangladeshies think Ashraful scored 1st hundred at 16 - I am different.
I was about to edit some points in my posts(even last one) which looked useless and kinda rude but pp's 2 minute edit policy. I apologize for that.

They speak punjabi at home and outside not urdu. Even in the team now they might not need to talk in Urdu with many of the players so their pronunciations are going take time to improve.

As I said in another thread, we're seeing the PSL effect with guys like Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali. Exposing youngsters to pressure situations against international players in these competitions is an invaluable experience for when they step up to the national team.
Shadab has been sensational so far but hopefully he keeps his feet on the ground and doesn't fizzle out like so many Pak youngsters who showed promise at the start of their careers.
I would like to see more of his batting, we saw he's a clean hitter during the PSL. I don't know why Pakistan have a fixed batting order in T20s - we must be flexible according to the situation.
Given how slowly we're starting in the Powerplay in this series - why not promote Shadab or Imad to 3 or 4, and give them license to hit ? Get a quick 20 or 25 and give our innings momentum, with the others working around them.
This is rather better approach, I still believe the reason Razaq and Afridi developed as world class power hitter, because they were brought on at 2/3 all the time early on...At that position, intend is clear, no pressure, less fielders on boundaries, ball is hard and license to kill...At 6/7 there is more pressure to hit, ball is softer, plus 5 fielders on boundaries...Pakistan has not tried pinch hitters(on more consistent basis) since early 2000s, no wonder we have not gotten power hitters since that time, we did not see pinch hitting in PSL at all, which is a shame![]()
I don't like Shadab. He acts like he is already better Warne.
Then you must not like Imad also who considers himself as an all-rounder but bats like a tail-ender.
But you yourself said he could become better than Warne.I don't like Shadab. He acts like he is already better Warne.
Shadab definitely looks 18 and there is no reason to doubt that. I guess some people can't stand the fact that they have nothing to criticize so they are making stuff up now. Kind of sad actually.
Looks 18 to me.
He is genuine 18.
Players who have been coming through National under 16,17 & 19 ranks in last 5 years have genuine age because they are tested at SKH and if they are are over age they are dropped from camp or squad. This was done due to an embarrassment at ICC events and complaints of fellow members of ICC.
I don't like Shadab. He acts like he is already better Warne.
Can you give me a example of when he acted like he is better than Warne?
He's just mad that Shadab is making Imad look like an amateur
We're coming to the point where we are slamming one's euphoria?Khan is too exuberant in his celebrations for my liking.
We're coming to the point where we are slamming one's euphoria?
He's taken a wicket and he's allowed to celebrate any way he wants.
I don't see anyone slamming Tahir's celebrations.
I haven't seen any over the top celebrations from Shadab.I just don't see the point of the OTT celebrations. There is no logic behind them.

About his age: It doesnt matter much that he is 18 on paper but in actual 19.
Quite of a few of my friends have 1 year younger age on their papers. It was not their fault either. While submitting the papers for the matric/10th grade exams their parents wrote the age 1 year younger. (these things happen when parents have more than 1/2 kid(s) and is unintentional) And then that age continued on when they applied for National Identity Card after turning 18. It can cause difficulty when you have diffrent age in matric mark sheet and nic (and the procedure for changing it is hectic too) and most kids opt for the same.
Kids have no fault in it as they mostly do what their parents do when they are in matric. It is 'not faking your age' as some people say. Atleast not the fault of kids.
Shadab Khan : The reason why my father has started watching cricket again.
Na kar yaar seriously?
That's awesome. He definitely is hella exciting to watch.
Why can't DOB just be recorded the day you are born...?
Shadab Khan : The reason why my father has started watching cricket again.
That is just too much, atleast give him to play 20 matches before we start praising him so highly.

How do you rate his batting?
Good. It needs 3-4 years to develop and mature but he has got the ingredients. Thank fully he can time the ball and play conventional cricketing shots through the off side against fast medium bowling.
Having said that if he bats below number 7 than his batting will be destroyed and he will become a leg side hoicker.
This is exactly what we are doing. If we don’t bat him at proper number his batting will be destroyed and than we will say He was never a batsman, never an allrounder and it was all PP BRIGADE hype.
