What's new

Tamim Iqbal is hugely underrated and has been disregarded due to his prowess for a minnow team

Tamim is a good opener, probably the best in Asia but he played too slow today.

He faced almost half of the inning balls at 90 SR, might be a match losing inning.

He ensured that we didn't have yet another collapse as we had against India.

He batted really well. The English bowlers bowled well up front. He gave support to the rest who played more aggressively around him. That's where context matter.

Our real disappointment is Imrul Nd Soumya not kicking on while our lower order could have scored 15-20 runs more easily

He started slowly but the pitch was a bit double paced to begin with, its not the usual fast Oval pitch we usually see.

England bowled reasonably well at the death and Bangladesh lacked the power hitters needed in the latter overs to take them to a score of 330+.

Nothing wrong with a slow start but when you play 140+ balls, you have to accelerate and finish with 100+ SR.

I do not think 300 will be a good enough score to defend unless England choke. Bangladesh are 30-40 runs short of a good score.

Since the 2015 WC Tamim has averaged over 60 in the games Bangladesh have won, but the OP also vindicates his impact beyond that; Tamim Iqbal puts the Bangla in Desh, their greatest batsman without a doubt and a figure equivalent of a Kardar for Pakistan.

He might be good but doesn't look fit to me. The drive to run those extra singles comes with fitness and sure with more lean body he could have pushed English fielders bit more and possibly ended with a higher strike rate.

You may not know but trying to get those extra singles have cost us SO many runouts that it is not funny anymore. That is why I think management put more emphasis in protecting the wickets rather than the quick 10 odds runs.

Tamim Iqbal, the BADDEST Bengali of them all #AllEyezOnHim

The legend is going to tour Pakistan ! fantastic news !

Has become a world class batter in the eyes of the people it seems :shakib

Jokes aside Tamim has been excellent in the last few years. Since the world cup his stats in ODIs has been mind boggling. Did well in tests including a double century. In T20s as well he has scored quite a bit of runs, domestic or international

Congratulations Tamim Iqbal reaching 6000 ODI runs, first Bangladeshi to do so!

He is our premium batsman for last few years ,one of the better openers around in world cricket today. If he plays few more years he will achieve a lot more.

Currently he's the best Opener from Asia across all formats. Great batsman.

Has gotten a lot better and has added authority in his batting since World Cup 2015.

I had my reservations about his ability.

But he has gone from strength to strength. Arguably the best opener in Asia. One of the best player of spin in the world. He has also performed in big matches. 2nd highest run scorer in CT, highest run scorer in T20 WC.

Been a great performer.

Rohit Sharma is the best opener in Asia by a margin. He is a flat track bully, but LOI wickets are flat now so it doesn't really matter as much. Tamim is a fantastic player though and one of my favourites. Absolute class when in full flow.

Congrats to Tamim! I always rated him highly, I even put him in my in my Asia XI.

Congrats to TIK! He is making ODI run scoring look so simple. Needs to score more hundreds and a few at 100+ strike rate. But he's been given the anchor role.

:)) No, just another big mouthed hack who can't do jack in an important game. Tamim Pamim, Mushy Tushy all useless.

Mahudaulla is undoubtedly best BD batsman, always shines in pressure situation.

He is not even in the top 15 batsman rankings in any format ..and it boggles my mind when they say he is among the best...he is not even best opener in Asia..Rohit and dhawan are miles ahead of him in ODIs and in tests there is Azhar Ali as well..

I still see him as a big match player but it is concerning the lack of consistency, he is still pretty young but some time away from the game may help him; in the mean time BD can try a different opener

Tamim urges BCB for rest from Afghanistan series

Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal is likely to have been approved a leave from the lone Test match against Afghanistan, followed by the tri-nation T20I series involving Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, all to be played at home in September this year.

The occasion will be the first for Tamim to miss a series for Bangladesh apart from injury.

It is understood that the southpaw has requested the BCB for a break to recharge himself mentally.

During almost a month-long break from cricket, Tamim will work on a personal fitness schedule and is expected to make a return through Bangladesh’s tour of India in November this year.

Bangladesh are scheduled to play three T20Is and two Tests against the Indians.

Bangladesh Cricket Board had granted all-rounder Shakib al Hasan leave from the three-match ODI series against host Sri Lanka last month.

Shakib had earlier taken a break during the Test series against host South Africa in 2017 as well.

''We will start a camp, most likely from August 20, and have chalked a 35-member squad already,” said BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin to the media Saturday.

“Because Tamim has asked for a leave from the series, we will have the final squads (for Tests and T20Is) with that in consideration,” the former Bangladesh captain added.

Tamim dealt with a pale patch during the World Cup 2019, finishing with 235 runs in eight games backed by a lone half-century.

The situation for the left-handed batsman worsened as he toured Sri Lanka.

The “interim” ODI captain returned home from the island nation scoring 21 runs in three matches as Bangladesh conceded a series whitewash against the host.

Bangladesh Test and T20I captain Shakib earlier this month suggested in the media to give Tamim a break.

Shakib emphasized on the importance of a proper break and stress management, especially for the seasoned campaigners.

“See, a player can go through these [bad] phases. What I feel is that it’s most important for him to rest, recover and come back strongly. I am sure he will do that,” Shakib said during a public meet in Dhaka.
