Tamim Iqbal ruled out of the Asia Cup due to wrist fracture

Tamim Iqbal will play no further part in the Asia Cup after fracturing his left wrist during Bangladesh's tournament opener against Sri Lanka.

The left-handed opener sustained the injury from only the third ball he faced when a Suranga Lakmal delivery struck him.

Tamim briefly received treatment from the team physio but was forced to retire hurt on two not out at the Dubai International Stadium and is now expected to be out of action for six weeks.

The 29-year-old is Bangladesh's all-time leading run-scorer and centurion in ODI cricket and his absence will come as a significant blow to the team's hopes in the tournament.

Bangladesh were yet to name a replacement at the time of writing.

First of all, a big salute to Tamims courage and determination for his country to come out and bat with a major injury. But I was wondering, if instead of one ball there were say 3,4 or 5 balls left in the over. Do you think, Tamim would still ave come out to bat??

In my view the team management would not have allowed Tamim to come out the bat as batting with one hand he was unlikely to get off strike and there was a higher risk of him getting hit during those five deliveries.

So he understood that a richochet off bat etc could never come his way, if he had to take evasive action against a bouncer etc, he would have the superhuman presence of mind to shield his wrist

Why does BCB treat Shakib so well? If Shakib was in England he would have been made retired long ago.

Tamim was one of the most hot headed players in BD team few years back - it’s probably his marriage that has changed the man. You can check few old YouTube clips on Tamim if it’s still there. Similarly, he is just a good player now for his poor work ethics in early career, otherwise at 21, he was one of the wisden cricketer of the year and should have been among top batsmen at his prime. Jaime Siddons is one of the best batting coaches around and he was damn upset with the poor work ethics of Tamim. He was averaging below 30 till 2014/15 in both formats, which still has kept his overall average 40/35 level, when he should be a 45/40+ average batsman.

Guy has transformed himself in recent times and education helps, otherwise he was made deputy few years back and led the side in few games - irritated most of his team mates. In BPL as well he was made made Captain in early stages, but nothing no special there either, doesn’t lead his Dhaka League team either.

Shakib in contrary is the hardest worker I have seen in the game. He bowls 60+ overs/Test, bats at 5 (& 3 in LOs), easily among best fielders on the team and he plays non stop all year round, because of the amount of work he puts in his game & fitness. He didn’t skip games for soft tissue injuries like muscle pulls rather for fractures which still he is carrying. Regarding the recent controversy, this was due to poor journalism - his answer was 20-25% behind full fitness, some tool wrote it 20-25% fit!!!

His wife is US citizen and employed there, so he spends time with her whenever possible, but he keeps training even on US vacation. I saw him stressing in Yoga mode at Airport lounge, waiting for a flight.
