The Anti-Pakistan, Anti-Muslim and Pro-India Tarek Fatah has passed away. In Pakistan, he was very much not a very known name. In India however, the guy had a big following. I, myself found about him after finding his tweets in favor of Israel and against Palestinians during the 2021 attacks on Palestinians.

Condolences to all Indian BJP supporters.

A great example of a treason and hate for the land you were born in.

Think the easiest way to claim fame is to denounce the place you were born in and praise the opposite.

It wasn't his anti-Pak vitriol that annoyed me but his consistent efforts to mock Islam and Muslims.

He was Gay imo, his vocal support for LBGT was for a reason. Hence his mocking of Islam.

Its not just denouncing, he went out of his way to support RSS who hates Muslims and propagate propaganda against Pakistan.

General Zia rightly realised this early on.

When you google Tarek Fateh its all Indian newspapers eulogising him and writing his obituary.

Just after Ramadan as well. He didn't deserve to die in the blessed and holy month of Ramadan.

It's understandable why Pakistanis hate him, while most Indians love him.

RIP!

I never said I love him, I said most Indians love him. He was known in India because he frequently appeared in Indian news channels badmouthing Pakistan while showering praises on India. Wasn't the answer to your question already obvious to you?

Why was he known in India and why did you LOVE him?

He was virtually an unknown in Pak. Apart from Amir Liaquat bashing him a few times on air, don't think most Pakistanis have even heard of him. His attention seeking stunts did garner him some following in India and in Canada.

Don't care what Zia did. He was pretty vocal about not believing in Prophet SAW. His definition of God was air, water, everything is god (nauzubillah).

As far as I know, LGBT stuff is prohibited in all Abrahamic religions.

Could not stand him. Attention seeker…. Gay I am pretty sure no.

COLUMNIST Tarek Fatah passed away in Canada on Monday after a prolonged battle with cancer, The Hindustan Times reported, quoting a family source.

“Lion of Punjab. Son of Hindustan. Lover of Canada. Speaker of truth. Fighter for justice. Voice of the down-trodden, underdogs, and the oppressed. Tarek Fatah has passed the baton on… his revolution will continue with all who knew and loved him. Will you join us? 1949-2023,” Mr Fatah’s daughter Natasha, herself a journalist, shared the news on Twitter.

Born in Karachi, Pakistan before emigrating to Canada in 1987, Mr Fatah was an award-winning reporter, columnist, and radio and television commentator, both in Canada and abroad, with a huge social media following, according to Toronto Sun.

Mr Fatah, who died at 73, was a political activist, a fierce defender of human rights and a staunch opponent of religious fanaticism in any form.

As a secular Muslim who authored books titled The Jew is Not My Enemy: Unveiling the Myths that Fuel Muslim Anti-Semitism, and Chasing a Mirage: The Tragic Illusion of an Islamic State, Tarek was never deterred by controversy.

I am not his fan or anything just because he was pro India, but you have to admire anymore who speak their mind and stay consistent in spite of backlash. In today's world, most youth just go by whatever media tells them. Some enemies are respect worthy and have lots of desirable personality traits.

When one's lobbying they're not speaking their own mind nor do they care for backlash as it just adds to their notoriety

Really? Did he ever call out or criticise RSS/Hindutva/Zionism as forms of religious fanaticism? If he did not, then it is clear his problem was only with Islam.

Another day, another dollar.

I’ve never heard any one of them involved in things like 9/11, London Bombings, Mumbai Attacks, etc.

Did you hear of any of their acolytes being involved in mob lynchings or ethnic cleansing in your shining nation?

Is there a big market in India for these types?

I know this guy's face but I never knew his politics. Only recently I saw a clip of this guy trying to join a white supremacist protest in Canada and getting abused by the same supremacists because of his looks. He is a grifter but he shouldn't have thrown away his self-respect for a little clout from awful people.

What a sad person.

I see his daughter has tweeted his description as "The Son of Hindustan".

That's fine by me, actually I believe India would be better named Hindustan to reflect it's population, but seems Hindus are still not ready to adopt the title openly, although surely many in their hearts must fervently wish it.

He saw a good market in India but to be honest, didn't get far with it.

Lol he saw a market in india and exploited it like an expert by saying whatever starved Indians wanted to hear. Hardly admirable lol. Same book which many people ex cricketers have followed

People have shown more sensitivity towards a gangster/ mafia guy like Atiq or a terrorist like Osama than Tarak Fateh who was not a criminal but just had a different political stance. Make whatever of that

I believe in the principle when you don’t have anything good to say about someone after their death it’s better not to say anything.

On topic RIp/om shanti to Tarak Fateh saab.

Its about what they stand for. Fatah is a critic of Islam even though he calls himself a Muslim.

Tarek Fatah championed the cause of anything anti-Pakistan. When he refused to highlight plight of Muslims in India, he became a party to the excesses committed against them.

Like I said, he will be judged in the court of The Almighty.

He got as much respect as he gave and that's how it should be. Om Shantis and Ay Bagwan from one side, not sure what you were expecting from the other given his vitriol displayed regularly towards them.

He clearly said many times he didn't believe in the shahadah. Said he didn't believe in Prophet SAW. Would regularly go so far to mock Islam.

I thought people in Pakistan didn’t know who he was based on some posts above. It looks like people have seen enough of his material to form a strong opinion.

As I said it’s one thing not to like the guy but it’s another to celebrate his death like he was some terrorist.

Anyway it’s your discretion.

Forgiveness is upto Allah.

I, myself didn't like him. It's irrelevent and unknown to us what happens to him in the Hereafter.

The poster you are quoting is British. Even majority of Pakistanis on PP don't know who he was. Common people in Pakistan who don't use twitter would have legit zero idea who he was. He never really appeared on TV, newpapers or radio etc in Pakistan, the most used form of media.

Most Pakistanis don't know of Tarek Fartah. Online communities like this do because his stuff gets spread via Indian media channels. No one is celebrating his death like a terrorist, only you are making those connections for whatever reasons. He's getting the respect he gave, not sure why you expect he should be getting more than that. If he was in the FATA regions of Pakistan I doubt they'd even allow him a burial, so when I say he may have been cremated, that would probably be a better send off.

Therein lies the problem. he is a critic of "Islam". I would be all for criticizing muslims because a lot of us have deviated from the righteous path and distorted the faith we like to so proudly wear on our sleeves.

Criticizing a faith is just plain intolerance and ignorance. I honestly did not know about this dude but when I looked him up, all i see if opposition for the same of opposition with nothing of substance except "let me just bash them because i dont like them"

I'm surprised hearing that most Pakistanis never heard of him before. I thought he was known and hated all over Pakistan.

Only people who use twitter and followers of politics in India would know about him. I never saw his face on tv once in my life. Only found about him during 2021 Gaza crises when I used the tag Gazaunderattack and saw something like Palestinians getting what they deserve or something along those lines. Googled a little about him and stopped. Only found about his death through CJ Werleman's post.

I actually saw let me bash them so I can earn a good living and some fame.

He did play a lot to the galleries and made it cringe at times but when he started in the early days he used to make legitimate points like Army’s interference in Pakistan politics etc. some of the things he said are no different from what we hear these days due to Imran Khan’s ouster. He also talked about radicalization in Pakistan, things that have been said on this forum by Pakistanis themselves.

Sure I don’t agree in trolling or taunting on public media like he did at times but I don’t think this is the time and place to discuss his flaws.

In fact some of the points he made back in the day same to have some mainstream acceptability among Pakistan masses now .

It is hard to find a man who is 100% correct 100% of the time or 100% incorrect, 100% of the time.

Fair play to him if that's what he was doing, even prostitutes need to make a living, Tarek Fartah won't be the first person to shoot for the money. But let's give him some credit, maybe he did really believe in his views, and like anyone he's allowed his opinions as long as he's not breaking any laws.

In Pakistan the average guy wouldn’t know him since obv he would never be on tv there. He said what Indians wanted to hear so kept getting invited to Indian tv shows. Hence Indian would know him more. Pretty simple.

He was doing what basically Shoaib akhtar does on his YouTube channel regarding cricket. Knows there’s a big market in india so say what Indians want to hear. But obv cricket and politics are different kettle of fish.

Lol this is funny. He went to an islamophobic rally to spout his agenda and turned out it was a white supremacist rally as well so he got chittars in return

This is very obvious from his statements and beliefs from pre-Twitter days where he would regularly say things like ‘india isn’t one country and is made up by the British.’ Which is a fairly logical take

Don't know how he started but only know what he was saying in last 2 years. Being anti Pakistan is one thing but being anti Islam is another that too when you're identifying as practicing the same religion you're mocking. Comedians do that so I don't know if he was playing a comedian or he really believed in it.

Then again average Pakistanis didn't and still don't know about him.

The first video summarises the guy's whole life so well.

Tarek fatah had been spewing venom about Pakistan and even Islam for almost 2 decades infront of mostly islamophobic/hindutva/zionist audience.
There were all those predictions made about the demise and disintegration of Pakistan, and how the country was going to wither away.
This shows that traitors like Tarek Fatah and others like him will come and go but Pakistan is here to stay.
