We didn't pick up any wicket in the first and third T20 and look absolutely unpenetrative in the first test. The Indian bowling attack on the other hand against the Australian team in Australian conditions not only kept the economy rate down but also took wickets regularly as well.

Waqar now that he is not longer the head coach has no place to hide anymore

Our test bowling unit as of now has variety and skill + an aggressive captain to back them, please do not compare.

You give Misbah and Waqar the same Indian bowling attack and watch them being employed ineffectively

When players are put in a position to fail, they inevitably fail. I wouldn't blame the players.

These players have been in Australia for a month now, that is a decent amount of time to acclimatize. I will actually ask more aggressive questions from the team management as to why have they fallen short once again.

This is Misbahs third tour of Australia, twice as player, once as captain and now as coach, what excuses does he have for not having answers?

It's worse than that.

He is so sure of himself that he keeps making the same errors time after time after time.

Not having a pace bowling all-rounder meant that by the 45th over all the Pakistan quicks had been overbowled with too little rest. They lose pace, they lose accuracy and they are at risk of injuries - especially as two of the three quicks are just teenagers.

Misbah is both Chief Selector and Head Coach.

He is 100% accountable. The buck stops with Misbah. No excuses!

Have to agree with this. You have to have 5 full time bowling options in Australia with one of them being a complete all rounder

Burns scored 97 runs. So called experienced Waqar is only good at giving statements. Where was the game plan? Look at the no. of No-balls.

India didn’t face the rampaging Warner-Burns duo.

Warner and Burns, who has an average of <10 in the last 9 innings, were rampaging today because they were allowed by incompetent, inexperienced and ineffective bowling led by an insecure captain under an imbecile coach.

It's not all over.

Management needs to encourage the players, get Warner and Smith early tomorrow and it is a very fragile batting line up to follow. Need to put up a fight.

The next match is a D/N test, anything can happen.

Only 2 days into the test series, lot more left to play for. Misbah and Waqar need to ensure the boys walk out tomorrow with their heads held high.

Waqar's previous four stints in coaching roles went down in flames. Now he's back for a FIFTH time to inflict more torture.

So far, we've seen Sri Lanka C and Australia dismantle our attack. He's okayed the selections of Mohammed Irfan and Imran Khan, and this average Musa kid.

Today our bowling plans were non-existent. Our thick captain and team management didn't even try bowling our right arm seamers over the wicket to Warner as Broad did in the Ashes to great effect until he was set.

Our no-balling was an issue during Waqar's coaching stints, and now that problem has returned. This Misbah/Azhar/Waqar combo is asking for trouble.

Dream on. An innings defeat is certain. Might even be by 300 runs.

Who was the 5th bowler for Australia on day 1? And, they did bowl 87 overs in one day, with all three pacers charging with 2nd ball. What is the clue there?

The match is lost. But avoiding an innings defeat and taking the game into the fifth day is a small victory. Young team, they need this.

The only chance of this game going into the 5th day is Aus keep batting till the end of day 4

History and the quality of the team would suggest that the Pak batting isn't capable of lasting more than 50 or so over when in a pressure situation in Aus

Australia play 4 genuine options.

But never two teenagers. And the spinner must handle 20-25 overs with a workhorse seamer doing 20-24. Part timers can do a few overs.

Really the tactics must be questioned. If you win the toss & bat- then clearly your planning for the test is in your hands, so your tactics were to bowl second at the GABBA. Days 2 & 3 when the track is flattest & best batting track in the country- better than Adelaide as it is quicker and truer and full value for shots = full range of shots available.

Misbah & Waqar have been here before, they should now this . Waqar lived here for goodness sake, he knows this. Pick two teenagers and maybe let them rip on day one. But pick two teenagers and ask them to bowl on day 2 & 3 of the GABBA... It is dumb.

Yes it can bounce but time & time again GABBA is PEREFCT batting pitch from late day 1 until late day 3. No excuse for not knowing this aside from poor planning.

Throw two teenagers at that with what- Imran Khan trundler as spearhead based on Pink Ball form in a NON pink ball Test ahead of guy with 18 test average... Who BTW averaged 11 on the good batting deck in his only tour game...

Coach & selector throw a Test average of 18 & most Test caps in the bowlers (not by much, but still) out the window for a TTF? On the basis of a single fifer on a tour game... vs kids... Pink ball... Ranked over TEST wickets at 18... Red ball...

Bowlers have not done their job but gee, neither have the coach & electors. Clear errors.

Learn to fight in Australia. Test cricket won't get any harder for them. Ever really.

Take it to 5 days. Let the bowlers have another go & find some confidence, snare a few wickets. Maybe find an epic hundred from the batters to make a reputation & take it into day 5.

That's the positive outlook.

The Australian Invincible side of 1999 to 2007 used to play 4 bowlers but then came the Ashes defeat in 2005 and they changed their policy to only play 4 full time bowlers if they are all in good form, ready to go, but they opted to play a 5th bowler as well in case one of the bowlers was struggling for form or if a few bowlers were inexperienced.

Whenever Pakistan has played 5 bowlers, the bowlers have bowled at 100% in all their spells and that is what was needed.

I wont blame Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi but Waqar has been in this role 4 times now and Misbah is an experienced cricketer who has toured Australia 3 times, they should have zero excuses

Don’t worry, we will bring back zulfi, Kamran Akmal, and junaid khan for the next test

Cummins
Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon

batsmen...

And we get 5-10 overs from part timers. Labuschange and Smith are no better than Azhar & Haris or whoever you turn out.

So... 4 good bowlers currently. And previously. Interupted by when we trialled Symonds as a genuine option & had the rare talent of Watson. We've since abandoned it after suffering through repeated failure of Henriques & Marsh & Maxwell who were all bits n piecers.

Or 5 good bowlers.

Very few teams have a complete allrounder these days. They are rare indeed. Surprised Shadab doesn't get a look.

And last year both India and Australia played only 4 proper bowlers and got part timers like marnus and vihari to bowl the fifth bowler quota. Pakistan are not losing because they are missing some genuine all-rounder. Another junaids myth

Difference is how fit the Aussie bowlers are.

Plus, If push comes to shove on a hot/humid day of 90 over cricket, Lyon is capable of bowling 25-30 overs while keeping the runs in check. 4 bowlers are plenty for Australia.

For Pakistan the spinner cannot contain or has to play the attacking role since the pacers were ineffective.

Imagine, that too with two talents playing in this game who are pushing SRL as Mickey Arthur’s second choice ... for their talent. These days, the excuses are getting hilarious by every day - even Wasim is basing Amir, Wahab for not playing rather than questioning who were playing in a day of 312/1... that one is also from a spinner and dragged on.

Anyway, I don’t mind who thinks what, but as a keen cricket enthusiast, it really hurts my ego (of what little cricket I understand), when someone writes fantasy with the likes of Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Ehsan Adil or few other no bodies and try to spoon feed the idea - am I really that dumb?

4 Bowlers might work for the Australian team but that only works against teams with Brittle batting line ups, against India these 4 bowlers got tired and the Aussies admitted in the end the amount of overs Pujara made the bowlers bowl took a toll.

Pakistani team has to do what is best for them, playing a 5th bowler allows all bowlers to keep charging in and maintain intensity spell after spell.

Fans were quick to find faults with Mickey Arthur, and maybe by world standards he isn't a great coach. But Pakistani euqivalents usually have no coaching credentials whatsoever. It is like sacking a qualified teacher and putting the janitor in charge.

My questions to the team management is that what exactly was the plan or preperations for this tour?

In Australia you have to specifically plan for each ground differently, adopt a horses for courses approach and play a different bowling attack depending on the pitch and conditions, there is very zero planning in this regard for the Pakistani team. Yasir Shah has a very poor record in Australia, South Africa but yet he was persisted, the spinners who have been successful in recent years have been finger spinners and Pakistan did not pick any.

Players are being asked to do things they are not good at. Why is that? It's because the Team Management(Misbah ul Haq and Waqar Younis) do not have a good understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of their players. They also don't have a strategy. There is no strategy to select players and build a team. There is no strategy on lineup construction batting or bowling. There is no strategy on playing style. Do we have a playing style? Mindless aggression is not a playing style. There is no strategy on how to approach batting in Australia against these set of bowlers on this wicket. There is no strategy on how to construct an over against David Warner with the new ball.

The people who are supposed to answer these questions don't have answers or even the beginning to an answer. I have no issue blaming players. But as Bill Walsh said, it falls on the coach. He can't control results but he can control the process before and after the performance. If that process is incorrect or non-existent that's on the coach. That applies here.

Other than the 2nd test against England where he scored his 50, if you analyse Shadabs performances in those overseas tests they are nothing special.

Faheem is trash. I don't even look at his legendary numbers in those games.

India's triumph is of planning and preparation, as well as resilence and guts. The way India restricted Australian batsmen with their bowling plans and field placings was a masterclass.

This shameless, blundering, we'll figure it out later, stuck in the past management duo of Misbah and Waqar should've taken notes. Bharat Arun has completely exposed these so-called legends and big names with a THIRD string attack.

I just wish the penny dropped on our side of the border that hiring big name ex-players as coaches means ZILCH if they've no coaching or strategic skills.

Anyway this is India's moment and deservedly so.

Completely agreed. Even when England beat Australia in Australia in 2010-11, it was on the back of some very detailed planning and preparation for that tour
